(10) Ball Testers Wanted: Snell MTB Red & MTD Black

Three years ago, Dean Snell knocked the golf ball world on its keister by starting his own Direct-To-Consumer golf ball company. What made Snell Golf different, was Dean himself, and his considerable street cred in golf ball design.

Snell blasted a home run his first time up with the My Tour Ball. Tapping into knowledge gained from years with Titleist and TaylorMade, Snell designed the original MTB for Tour-level performance at a cut-out-the-middle-man price.

And man, did it perform. But the golf world being the golf world, it’s time for the next generation MTB.

Dean Snell - 1

Testers Wanted

Snell is introducing two new Tour-level balls for spring: MTB RED and MTB BLACK – two balls for two different golfer types.

MTB BLACK shares DNA with the original MTB – it’s a 3-piece cast urethane ball with a softer core for a little less driver spin than the original, while keeping the same short-game performance.

MTB RED is a 4-piece, firmer feeling ball for players who want/need more spin on both long and short shots.

For a closer look at which ball might fit your game best, click here.

Do the new MTB’s live up to the original? MyGolfSpy needs 10 of you (5 to test the BLACK, 5 to test the RED) to try these things out and tell us what you think.

How To Apply:

As you know, MyGolfSpy takes its product testing very seriously. All of our reader reviews are published in our Community Forum (click here to check them out). We expect a lot from our reviewers –you’ll be asked to write a thorough, detailed and honest review, and it’s a full two-month commitment on your part, with extensive on-course and practice green work as well as participation in the Community Form itself to answer questions and discuss product performance with other golfers.

To be considered as a tester you must be a registered member of the MyGolfSpy Community Forum, where you’ll find thousands of like-minded golfers from all over the world anxious to talk golf equipment.

Snell Golf Balls - 1

To apply to test and review the Snell MTB Red or MTB Black golf balls, here’s what you have to do:

We’ll be announcing the testers in the MyGolfSpy Forum next week, so check back there.

Good luck!

Hi I currently play of 7 and hit with a low spin rate so I would love to try the MTB red. Usually using Callaway Chrome soft or ProV1s.

18 Hc, regular ball is the KSig, but am also a QStar fan.
I suspect the Red would be the match for me, but would love the opportunity to test that theory out!

Would love a go at the snell balls but more interesting would be the results after whoever gets to test them. As a mid handicapper it’s really only now as I trickle into a single digit handicap that I am getting to appreciate differences in the golf ball.

Mygolfspy you guys rock. Keep it up. Love this forum

Yes I am a “My Golf Spy” reader; would like to be a Snell golf ball tester.
Live in NC, current handicap 0, current ball playing is a Srixon Q-Star
Tour, my first choice of the 2 MTB would be the BLACK, lower compression, 3 piece construction with a urethane cover for a low spin player. Thanks.

I have been using the MTB for two years and will keep using them. I just received my Snell test pack in the mail today. Two sleeves of the Red and Black. I have played a round with a Red ball already and liked it, it does live up to the specs as it does spin more off mid to short irons. If your a high ball, higher spin player the red is probably not for you, especially into the wind. The Black will probably be the ball for me going forward.

I would love to test the new snell balls. I’m a weekender that needs all the help I can get. More than likely this will be yet another failed attempt on a give away, but you can’t win if you don’t try. So send them on to me MGS

I must have about 1000 or more golf balls from being a ranger at Cedar Trace Golf course here in Batavia Ohio. I have golfed with all manufactures of balls for many years! I could give you a better review on testing your MTB black balls and the MTB red balls! Tks.

Good luck with testing! Given today’s weather I am guessing you won’t be hitting the links in the next couple of days. Ha! Please reply back with your findings as I am very interested in the new Snell offerings, especially in the yellow.

Love the original MTB’s and have recently received my test pack of the Blacks and Reds. Hoping the weather will cooperate in New England at some point so I can actually try them both. So far all I’ve been able to do is putt with them and hit a few chips, but they are encouraging. Really like the way Dean is approaching this product’s development and the honest information he is providing about golf balls in general as well. Great product too.

I would love to do this, I love discovering the differences in feel, green side spin, hopefully low spin off the driver etc. Can you keep the ball down into the wind, part shots , hooks draws and any other ball flight needed. Sign me up.

Really looking forward to this review/test. Hopefully my days of spending money on ProV1xs will come to an end.
One request for the testing, can you include a balancing test? http://mygolfspy.com/golf-balls-balanced-properly/
I have used the floating test to see if my current ProV’s are balanced and 17/18 were good. 4/6 Vice ProPlus I had were Not balanced. Curious if anyone else has tested and if results are similar.
Mygolfspy, do you include balancing in your testing?
