(10) TESTERS WANTED: SNELL MTB-X BALLS

What happens when one of the most respected and accomplished names in golf ball R&D takes his ideas and skills and puts them to the test against behemoths of the golf ball industry?  The result is a ball that rises to the top of just about every category in the most comprehensive publicly disseminated golf ball study ever conducted. We think the Snell MTB X can hold its own against anything on the market. Now it’s your turn to see if you agree.

Created by founder Dean Snell, the MTB-X is the latest iteration of Snell’s premium ball line. Snell’s pedigree is well documented, but in addition to his role in developing the original Titleist Pro V1, Dean served as Vice President of R&D at TaylorMade and was responsible for the invention of noteworthy balls such as the TP Red & Black, Penta, and Lethal among others.

TESTERS WANTED

We want 10 of you to try out one dozen of the Snell MTB-X and report back to us—and your fellow Golf Spies—how the ball works for you, and if it stands a chance to be your one ball of choice during the 2019 season—note: read the report, and you will understand the significance of that suggestion.

OK. I had a sleeve of the snell x balls so i gave them a try.i have a 6 handicap & 62 yrs old.On the first fairway i was 177 yds away and i hit my 7 iron cause my ball was sitting up. The ball went high and straight but it hit the back of the green and went over. So the rest of the round i had to use shorter clubs when i got inside 150. The nice thing about the ball is that it goes longer and straighter then the other balls i tried. The 2 balls i have been playing are the titleist pro v1x and the snell black . Would love to get more time hitting this great ball.Thks

I am a 4.8, 98mph average, 33 year old tournament player (GC AM Tour and others). Play either TP5 or Pro V1, after reading the ball review I am convinced of the fallacy of a “soft” ball and want to try the Snell. I’m a member at Mission Hills CC in Rancho Mirage and play 3 times a week. I’ve played Pro V1’s since they came out and only recently dabbled with the TP5.

I have a hcp. of 4.4, Clubhead speed around 120 mph, always use a shotscope v2 which means I know I p-average 264m with driver playing my prov1x so I can very clearly see if the mtb-x gets me any additional length off the tee. I live in Norway, and play mostly the same course so I think ny results should be very valid. Being a mechanical engineer and thus a firm believer in your no nonsense stats, I really want to test this out. Hope you are interested, Sveinn.

I’m a 67 yr old, who plays twice a week, trying to improve on a 13 handicap. I was down to a 9 in my league, a couple yrs ago. Part of my problem is using the wrong ball. Currently, I’m using a Bridgestone E6 and Srixon Soft Feel, but would like to see how much the Snell Ball would help my game.

A senior golfer (76) who is a long hitter. Single digits from the whites. Today drove a short par 4 that is 302 on card but we measured the ball at 298. Play the Vice now. In past used Wilson Duo U in cold weather. Then top of line Bridgestone. Last year Tour B RX. Left handed player. At 76 modern players would not believe the crap I put up with in the early years. Want to write a story some day. Favorite ball of all time is the Taylormade Lethal so you know why I would like to test another Snell ball. Already get newsletter thanks.

Have 3 dozen of the MTB-X yellows. They fly and stop well, no complaints there at all. The biggest issue so far for me is durability. It may be an issue with matching paint to the urethane – in terms of showing up scuffs – but they seem to “bruise up” more easily than the ProV1X I normally game. Have only played one round with them so far though, so will continue to evaluate.

I am very interested in testing the Mtb-x. I have purchased and played MTB Red and Black and would love to compare them to those as well as other brands. I currently have TP-5,s Srixon Z-star, original Kirkland’s (still 2 boxes left) and MTB Black in my bag. Once I am through my current inventory I will be switching to all of one brand either the MTB-X or the Srixon. I am a little obsessed with golf balls. Thank you for your brilliant work on reviewing balls.

But read the latest about this ball and was intrigued and playing at least two times a week and also playing tournament golf twice a month having the opportunity to test these would be an honor.

Have been playing the MTB Red for a while and bought 5 dozen when they went on sale late last year. Wish I hadn’t now. Pre-ordered the MTB-X and played them at Myrtle Beach (Legends) a couple of weeks ago. Longer, a little more firm feeling without being hard or “clicky”, and still good spin around the greens. Don’t get me wrong, the Red is a great ball and I will play them until they are gone, but my next ball purchase will definitely be the X.
