(12) Testers Wanted – Maxfli Tour and Tour X Balls

Sometimes the more you know, the more you realize just how little you actually know. That’s certainly been the case with the ball market in 2019 where MyGolfSpy’s testing started to peel back the layers revealing some rather uncomfortable findings regarding performance, consistency, and how in the name of Zeus’ beard a package of one-dozen balls could be comprised of several fundamentally different balls.

Maxfli’s answer to all of this is a ball with Center of Gravity Balancing Technology which it asserts can produce a straighter (and higher) ball flight. While the jury is still out on what amounts to built-in Check-Go-Pro, functionality the Maxfli Tour and Maxfli Tour X CG balls are a surprisingly competent offering from the guy’s at Dicks Sporting Goods.

TESTERS WANTED

We’re going to let TWELVE of our trusted forum members decide and tell the rest of the MGS Community all about it. We are looking for twelve members to test the Maxfli Tour and Tour X balls.

The testing is open to golfers who reside in the U.S only.

All of MyGolfSpy’s Community Reviews require a serious commitment on the part of the reviewer. You’ll need to be motivated, detail-oriented, and savvy with online forums. Writing a thorough, detailed, and honest review is a full two-month commitment, so please make sure you read the following instructions carefully and apply in the proper place.

Please note this is not a giveaway or a contest. We’re looking for twelve golfers committed to making a full evaluation and writing a detailed review for our Community Forum. Testers will be selected based on how well they demonstrate that commitment in the official Forum Application Thread.

That means to be a potential reviewer, you must be a registered member of the MyGolfSpy Community Forum, where you’ll find thousands of like-minded golfers from all over the world anxious to talk about golf equipment.

How to Apply

To apply to test, review, and keep your Maxfli Tour and Tour X balls, here’s what you have to do:

We’ll be selecting the testers sometime next week, so check back in the forum to see if you have been chosen.

Would love to try the Maxfli balls. We are able to leave the north in early October and head for Florida. Playing golf all year gives me plenty of opportunity to test the Maxfli ball.

I have played about 3 rounds with the Maxfli Tour. It is a nice ball, the flight/spin seem solid and has good feel around the greens. The Snell MTB-X is still longer off the tee for me and there is not enough noticeable short game difference for me to justify switching to the Maxfli. I do plan to give the Maxfli Tour X a few rounds for kicks as well.

Been using the Maxfli Tour since the ball test article came out– but I will bruise or scuff a ball (not in a KSig way), but a full sand wedge will affect the cover. I am not a fast swinger. Will testers be given the X and the Tour? Curious to see if X is more durable. (I’d volunteer but the pacific NW is about to get really rainy in a few weeks.

Wish I had 2 months of playing time to here in MI to evaluate them. I tried the 4-piece Maxfli several years ago & loved them. The following year they changed the ball, the designation & the characteristics so much I gave up. Hope these are good ones – nice to have great choices. After the great golf ball test of 2019, I worried about the consistency of the Snell’s I was using. So I salt water tested them (now tested 7 dozen) & compared them to 2 sleeves of new ProVs. None of them were any worse than the ProVs (a slow rotation to a point) & a few seemed perfectly balanced (came back to random spots). The only bad ball I found among all the balls I’ve now checked was an original Kirkland 4-piece that spun to a spot so quickly that it reminded me of a jumping bean. I need to find that ball & cut it open.

I used to play the Revolution balls when I caddied for Ed Fiori. It was a great ball. Can’t wait to try this one.

I see that Maxfli (Dicks) claims that if you point the ball a certain way it may change the flight tendencies. Wouldn’t that make the ball illegal? Curious minds must know.

My thoughts exactly. Plus, wouldn’t this also mean that you’d get random effects when playing the ball down in the fairways? Longer drives are nice but if you get inconsistent approach shots you’re GIR stats will suffer.

Tom, I don’t see it that was. Think about it, you are playing balls that have a wobble already so you don’t know how to align it when on the tee or green. This take a variable out of your game under certain conditions. Great for tee and green if it actually is balanced and not just a gimmick. The real question is how does this ball balance compare to other tour level balls, I would balance say a set of MTB-X to compare to these off the tee/green while also monitoring the “play it as it lies” shots to see the differences there. Send me some.

If a ball’s specific gravity is not centered (use the salt water test) then the lightest point on the ball can be identified.
Then tee shots, lift clean & place, and putts can be manipulated to a small degree.
The Maxfli Pro’s specific gravity is not balanced despite their markings on the ball. I use the salt test to determine the light spot of a ball and use it to my advantage.
      It is not illegal.
