Have played the original ZL for the last year and it’s a pretty good driver. I’m curious as to what the encore claims will be. The original is long, but requires hitting it on the button.
I hit some monster drives with it but anything not perfectly flush dropped off dramatically. It’s small sweet spot will likely send me elsewhere eventually. It’s accuracty is average, not spectacular. All in all, a good playable driver with a small sweet spot. Will demo the encore but anxious to see what both Cobra is aiming for with the new one and user reviews.

Fact is you really do not know what driver for irons are for you unless you get fitted. I needed up with cobra simply because I was hitting them 20 years farther and I hit every club in the place. Poor sales guy worked for his money. So far what I am finding out is Cobra fits me on all the clubs and woods. Now that I have my golf swing in line, I have to switch from the S3 Max to a regular club, so yeah I for sure pre ordered mine. Last time I waited they sold out! This club also has the new fujikura Motore F1 shaft. SUPER SWEET! Ships November 7th 2011! Counting the days!

By far the best driver for the upcoming year, I usually don’t hit every driver seen during demo days. I just so happened to be ready to hit all brand drivers at this demo day. Hands down by far for distance, feel, and looks. Clearly in my opinion blowing away the field of five in this order: Cobra ZL Encore White 10.5 , Taylormade R11 , Callaway Razr hawk tour , Titleist 910D , new Nike VR tour. Tested most drivers in both regular and stiff. I have been in search of a driver almost forever; no more, as this is a must try, must buy. Kudos to Demo days and all the other manufacturers especially Cobra ( seeing is believing, trying before buying) . Time at demo day 3 hrs, to make sure it wasn’t a fluke finished up day with an encore of the cobra zl encore all I can say is “it was magical”.

I think this is funny, who is their head of rnd. Are they getting paid for their work? I get the feeling that Puma/Cobra don’t really understand what they have taken on. Just feels like they are on the way to killing Cobra Golf, I know Acushnet flogged it dry before the sale.

I am glad to see the Black and white not going away, Authentic golf colors.
Knowing PUMA, I thought they were going to launch, Crazy colors, good thing they didn’t.

Surprise! The actual production model of the ZL Encore is black with LIME GREEN accents (including lime “Cobra” on crown) and grip. There is also a white version with white grip. Their AMP driver is black and orange with an orange grip. PUMA styling is definitely starting to show up in Cobra stuff.

Looks great for those wanted a triangular shape….should work for Cobra’s 5 tour pros. They make a pretty crappy driver. Ever see anyone who isn’t on their staff bagging one of their drivers? Me neither.

you are an idiot, i am a field tester for several golf club manufactuers, this paticular club had more R and D into its head and face than any other on the market. I wanted desperately to make the WHITE taylormade R11 to go further. It wont, this new ZL is the real thing and i play it because it is the very best technology available currently!

Golf clubs are priced at whatever the market will bear. Me, I wait a few months and watch the crowd who rushes to buy and see if any improvement is gained. If, and when, that happens I’ll pick one up. Last time I saw that happen was in 1988. My playing partner, who averaged about 240 yards off the tee, bought himself a new Yonex carbon fiber whatever driver and he actually gained 25 more yards. Then he was only 35 yards behind my persimmon driver :-).

More of the same from Cobra ZL of years past? Lots of carbon. heel weight. etc. I’m hoping Puma would change it up a bit.

You know you can spend a whole pile of money chasing technology. I learned that lesson when I watch a few guys I play golf with who don’t have the resources to chase and they are using very dated clubs with very similar if not better results than players with the latested and greatest. Skill will always be the best measure. So if you have a lot of cash keep buying the equipment makers love you.

I play the first ZL now and love it. I will definitely by this club if it is similar.

Very good looking driver. It seems the “trend” is going back to black dark drivers thanksfully
