JUST ARRIVED! – 2012 Nike Golf Masters Package

What Does The Masters Mean To You?

We asked the GolfSpy readers this question last year and we got some incredibly sentimental and nostalgic responses.  This tournament for many is the official start of the golf season…but for others it means a whole lot more.  The Masters for many golfers seems to stir up emotions from their past…a time when things were simpler…families were tighter…and playing a round of golf with your father happened what seems like every weekend.    Times might have changed…but thankfully the Masters is one of the last golf traditions we have left to cherish.

And as a golf writer nothing brings this to your attention more than the commercials prior to the tournament.  They haven’t changed much over the years…their not fancy…but they sure are effective.  Name me one other commercial that has men all over the world looking forward to blooming azaleas.  Well there is one other thing but it’s not a commercial…it’s a package.   And it seems to arrive just about this time every year from Nike Golf.  And this year was no different.  The other day “the” package arrived which I knew was from Nike and I knew it would be special.

What’s In The Box?

Nike knows packaging…and this one didn’t disappoint that’s for sure.  Might sound like a minor detail…but stick this same putter and pair of shoes in a brown corrugated box like every other golf club comes in and it just doesn’t have the same effect.  These hand-made wood boxes with slide in embossed plexiglass and custom cut-out interior showed off what was inside pretty damn nicely.  Yeah green and yellow might not be your favorite color combo…but when it revolves around the Masters opinions seem to change.  Have a look for yourself!

For a guy that has 25 or 30 of the ugliest putters, this one won’t make it into my collection.

Too bad it’s not Titleist, then you’d have a great looking pair of shoes & an excellent putter..Oh well, you gotta give Nike an A for effort, though once ya open the box, it’s a C-..JMHO…Fairways & Greens 4ever….

I’ve demoed that putter and it just doesn’t line up to my eye. The contact was good.

Shoes are great. I’m not big on the putter, but it would be fun to bag every so often just for the gawks you’ll get from everyone else. It doesn’t hold up to the Hammer in the ugly tree, but it’s definitely in the discussion.

Love it all ESPECIALLY THE PUTTER. Nobody does this special promotional type stuff better than Nike. It’s always really cool… A little jealous that X is on their list and not me.

LOL…is this your way of hinting you want the putter? Don’t you have enough equipment?

IS there such a thing as enough equipment? Especially when it comes to shoes and putters?

Dave’s right…no such thing. It’s funny though…only Nike sends you anything any more.

I have to agree with everyone else; love the shoe, but the putter is ugly. The whole idea and packaging is pretty cool though.

Sad to say I like the uniqueness – not that it is pretty, but that it is unique and stepping outside of the box of the “conventional” equipment look. Unfortunately equipment sometimes gets judged on the look rather than the functionality.
