2015 Most Wanted Budget Golf Glove

2015 Most Wanted Budget Golf Glove

The golf glove deserves better. You deserve better.

We want to make your bag a better place.  A place where golf gloves don’t just go to wither, crack and die. We want them to survive, thrive and revive your game. We want to make them last longer, perform better, fit snugger, look better.

Our 2015 Most Wanted Budget Golf Glove Buyer’s Guide consists of gloves with a retail price below $19. When we looked at the totality of the gloves submitted for testing, we found that $19 is the point of separation between true tour-quality gloves and budget-oriented gloves.

The gloves in this list are ideal for the golfer looking for a bit more durability than we’d expected from a tour glove, as well as a good balance of proper fit, feel, comfort, grip and breathability.

How We Tested

To determine Golf’s Most Wanted! Glove, we scored the following categories: Fit, Feel, Comfort, Grip, Breathability, and, Perceived Durability.

Gloves were put through a normal usage scenario at the driving range in controlled set of test conditions.

Golfers completed individual testing in a single session to help ensure consistent temperature and humidity.

If testers hands became too sweaty, they were allowed to cool down/dry off before proceeding to test another glove.

Each tester only used one club/grip for the entire test. Grips included corded, rubber, and grips with more than a full season of play.

Fit:

Does the glove fit true to size, slightly big, or slightly small. Any inconsistencies in sizing – with a single finger and/or the palm were noted and scored.

Feel:

Graded for how connected glove allowed a player to feel to their club/grip. Generally, thinner gloves scored better.

Comfort:
Anything worth noting where comfort is concerned, e.g. overly thick or abrasive seams, extremely tight fit in one finger.

Grip:

Does the glove allow for proper pressure, or does the player feel the need to grip tighter for any reason? Is there a comparative loss of grip?

Breathability:
When the time comes, does the player feel a glove promotes airflow, keeping things cooler and drier for longer?

Perceived Durability:

Is there anything at all that leads the player to believe a given glove might last longer, or conversely, fall apart/wear out sooner than the rest of the gloves.

Results: Most Wanted Glove

Grades for each category were given on a 10-point scale. Durability is weighted more heavily in the Budget Golf Glove category.
This year’s review panel included a ton more testers providing feedback in more categories.

Final Words of Advice

Don’t buy a new glove without considering the following:

  • A new glove should fit “like a glove.
  • Fit is everything
  • If you pull Velcro fastener past edge, go a size smaller
  • If the palm is loose, go a size smaller
  • Sweat is your glove’s worst enemy
  • Rotate 2 to 3 gloves during a round of golf
  • Never put gloves into your bag after a round
  • Air dry outside of your bag
  • Always store your gloves in a dry environment.

Tim, I did not see the Bionic gloves in either Test…….Why not?

From last year’s testing we decided the Bionic’s were not geared for the same market as the other gloves they were put up against.

The Bionic’s are really geared to their own sub set of users – and I think they deserve a look as a stand-alone product that is trying to solve a different “problem” if you will.

Be on the lookout for a piece covering the Bionic’s though.

What about the Callaway gloves sold in a 3-pack at COSTCO for about $18 ($6 each)? I was a long time MG user but these are a better glove for me at even better price than MG’s 2 for 1 pricing.

I’ve not tried the Puma, but the MG DynaGrip Elite is the best glove I’ve ever used. It’s as thin as the Titleist Players glove, so great feel. It’s very soft and very durable. And, you can’t beat the price. I hope these guys keep making this high quality glove at this great price for many years to come.

LOVE what BenderGloves.com offers. These aren’t just golf gloves with different colors, these things are the real deal. I’ve been using them for a few years and I’ll never use another brand. I rotate colors every few days, but several of them I’ve used through 2 golf seasons and they still look awesome! The reinforced cabretta palm makes them very durable, the fit is amazing, and did I mention the color? BG is a winner in my book – A+

Wow, you picked my favourite golf glove! And I can testify durability is real, not just perceived.

However I have slightly unusually shaped hands, and so you are wrong about fit. Best fit I ever found.

I’m very interested in this, very hard to get hold of in the UK but the one I did get I use as an opposite hand rain glove and it is absolutely amazing in the wet.

Me again…. More good testing appreciate it. Pretty sure the MG prices are buy one get one free.
And to be fair you say fit is everything, but the table says the winning Puma doesn’t, er, fit….
I would still challenge anyone to blind test the MG Elite against premium Footjoys and identify the 20 dollar difference.

No problem, that’s what I’m here for. For MG – their price is for one glove, but you get one free when you buy one glove. So we post price accordingly. If they offered one glove for $7 we’d love to list that – same goes for OEM’s who offer products for $249 but then always have it on sale for $199 – list price is $249.

Funny enough, even with fit being iffy on the Puma (just buy a size smaller than normal correct fit and you’ll be fine) it’s a stellar glove that in this category still deserves a win – it’s that good.

Have you tried a FJ Pure Touch? – like really tried one for a full round of golf? Do it. (not saying don’t buy your MG gloves… but in a blind test with the Pure Touch, I have no doubt which direction 75% of golfers would go) ;-)

Thanks for the review Tim! Maybe it’s time I tried using a glove again. I haven’t used one for 10 years. I always preferred to feel the grip with my hands, not through a glove. Maybe it was because of the gloves that were available back then.

No problem Kenny – love sharing. My hands are almost always moist (they are moist sitting her in my air conditioned home right now typing this) so in my own experience I can’t fathom not wearing a glove.

I think if you have really dry hands, it could make total sense to not wear gloves.
