First Look – Srixon Z Prototype Tour 19 Driver

3_MAY_mono01

Given Srixon’s surprisingly strong (like REALLY strong) showing in our recent Most Wanted Driver test, it’s only natural that we’d pay particular attention when something new from the company pops-up. Case in point, the recently USGA approved Z Prototype Tour 19 Driver.

Whether the new model will remain tour-only, or will eventually make it’s way to retail is unknown.

What we can say is that the new driver has a decidedly minimalist design. The Z Prototype Tour 19 offers no moving parts whatsoever. The hosel is glued, and aside from the requisite Z,  the sole is as smooth as a baby’s backside.

Even the USGA’s list of identifying characteristics is sparse:

SOLE: Z
TOE: SRIXON (with S underlined)
HEEL: SRIXON (with S underlined), (loft)

While we can’t promise this one will ever make it to retail, we expect it will appeal to the purists among you who don’t want/need adjustability, and who appreciate simple, clean lines.

Stay tuned for more details.

Timely. I demo’d a Srixon two days ago at a nice golf shop I will be fitted at soon. I didn’t hit it well but that was due to a wrist injury and I’ll hit it again when recovered. My impression tho was what a nice looking driver! The Srixon Proto looks ultra clean and I’d love to try it. I would add that I have my sights on Mizuno JPX 900 Tours and 900 forged irons blended. But did see Srixon iron heads that look really nice. Good job Srixon! It takes time but continuing to produce quality products that aren’t gimmicky may pay off.

Interesting as was the most recent test. Surprising is probably a better description. While it’s nice the Srixon made a good showing in the recent testing it’s really only showed they can compete with the big boys – Epic and MI/M2.

That’s a door that covers up the adjustable hosel. You can see the hinges to the right of the hosel.

What’s the little door on the heel side for? Just above the “Srixon 9.5” in the photo?
