First Look – 2018 PUMA IGNITE PWRADAPT Golf Shoes

For Spring 2018 PUMA Golf has introduced its new PWRADAPT Footwear collection.

The story is that PWRADPT delivers game-changing traction and comfort never seen before.

That’s a bold declaration which we’ll be taking a closer look at when we test footwear later this year. For now, we’ll mostly stick to the story as told by PUMA.

From my vantage point the PWRADPT family, with the exception of the all leather model, looks and feels like the evolution of the Ignite Spikeless Mesh and Ignite PWRSport Spikeless; the former leading to the latter, leading to this.

PUMA IGNITE PWRADAPT-502

The new family of shoes, which feature a waterproof upper with a 2-year guarantee have several key PUMA footwear technologies in common.

PWRFRAME – Described as ultra-thin TPU structures, PWRFRAME provides stability without compromising comfort. As much as I love that Spikeless Mesh I mentioned above as an everyday shoe, three was a bit too much freedom of movement on the golf course. PWRFRAME should take care of that.

IGNITE Foam – A core PUMA golf shoe technology for several generations now, the IGNITE Foam midsole provides cushioning, and for my money, does an exceptionally good job at it. For the first time, PUMA is using IGNITE Foam over the entire length of the midsole.

PWRADAPT – Given that the technology matches the product name, it stands to reason that this is the new tech that binds this story. PWRAdapt is a new sole system that offers what PUMA calls 3-Dimensional Traction along with responsive cushioning.

I think what the company is driving at is super stable and super comfortable. In fact, PUMA has expressed that sentiment mathematically…or sorta mathematically.

More Traction + More Comfort = PWRADPT

“Without question, our new IGNITE PWRADAPT collection is the most technologically-advanced golf shoes we’ve ever made. Not only will golfers experience unrivaled traction and comfort thanks to our PWRADAPT pods, but the fit, feel and the overall design of the shoes are truly game-changing. Our goal each season is to provide the perfect blend of style and performance – and with our new PWRADAPT cleated footwear we’ve done just that.” – Grant Knudson, Global Head of Footwear & Accessories, PUMA Golf.

3 Models

The PWRAdapt Family consists of three distinct models. All feature premium Aniline Leather accents.

IGNITE PWRADAPT (pictured) – A laced version of the shoe, the IGNITE PWRADAPT offers the technologies listed above, along with a Comfort Construction mesh bootie design that replaces the traditional tongue.

IGNITE PWRADAPT DISC – Offers all the same features as the standard model, this version replaces laces with PUMA’s proprietary DISC tightening system for a more precise fit.

The IGNITE PWRADAPT and IGNITE PWRADPT DISC are available in Quiet Shade/Quiet Shade, Black/White, and Peacoat/White colorways.

IGNITE PWRADAPT LEATHER – offering a more sophisticated style, the PWRADAPT Leather offers a mesh hybrid bootie lining along with a premium full-grain leather upper.

Available in white/white and black/black.

Also, each model features a map of Carlsbad printed on the insole.

Are there any differences in feel between the mesh and leather options? Having trouble on deciding between the two, I’d think the leather is a bit more stable?

      Ugly!

What’s up with all of the tradition company not using their logo’s on their shoes anymore. Adidas should have 3 stripes, New Balance the big N, and Nike with the swoosh.

Plus everything is a running shoes and/or has wild colors.

How about an all black dress shoes? Only choice is a FootJoy DryJoy.

Ditch the cleats and add support to the heel and maybe I’ll try them again
Last pair I returned after the heel started to collapse

I like these alot. As Rickie’s style matures and he continues to gain fandom, along with a breakout 2018 in golf, I think Puma and Cobra could see significant market share gain this year. Both companies rely heavily on his success especially as Bryson (OWGR no. 95) has disappointed after a strong rookie year. It’s notable that Lexi Thompson is also a member of the Puma/Cobra family and very popular.

Gorgeous shoes, but I can no longer wear the replaceable spikes for more than 9 holes (and that’s pushing it). The posts that screw in leave my feet bruised. I have to go with the pure turf type spikes (LOVE my Skechers for pure comfort!)

How long-lasting are those wind-up wire laces? Any consumer reports available?

IDK any official detail and I’m sure there won’t be much information until it starts coming from consumers. However, Footjoy has a very similar technology in one of their models that they have used for years. I have never really heard of anyone having problems with them breaking as it’s more of a wire and less of a lace.

I have the Puma Disc on a pair of Ignites from last season. It is a wire that is laced through and tightens evenly. I cant imagine them breaking easily, unless the tensioner in the “disc” goes…..mine are fine.
I love the fit and feel of those shoes. The Ignites w the Disc/Boa system and my Eccos (regular laces) are my go to comfort golf shoes, w cleats.
I have one pair of leather Puma spikeless, that I actually wear to the office, but those are a couple model years old by now. Also very comfy and handy for hitting balls at lunch once in a while.

Great looking shoe. Hope they fixed the stability problem. I returned last years version with the dial because they would collapse on me. Hands down the most comfortable golf shoe I’ve ever worn.

Great looking shoe. Just wish the brown leather pieces were black or gray. Brown looks odd.
