3 New PXG Drivers added to USGA Conforming Clubs List

In addition to the 2nd version of Callaway’s upcoming Rogue Sub Zero, the USGA has added three new PXG Drivers to its conforming list.

Each of the three was submitted for conformity testing in a 9° model only, which, along with the deviation from PXG’s typical naming conventions, suggests this is a tour-only situation – at least for now. This could be a legitimate case of for tour use validation, or it may be a matter of putting the clubs in tour pro hands to see which 1 or 2 finds its way to retail.

2 of the 3 models feature 9 weights (the 3rd features 6). In each case, the weights are arranged in groups of 3.

My thinking is we’re several months away at least from any sort of official launch.

XX

xxsq

The placement of weights along the heel suggests the XX may feature, or at least provide the option for, a draw bias configuration.

XXF

xxf

Weight placement to the toe side could suggest a fade bias. However, it’s also possible that internal weighting, coupled with the back-favoring placement of 6 weights could lead a higher MOI offering.

ZZ

zz

With no front weight options, the suggestion is that ZZ is a high MOI offering that allows for neutral (heavy weight toe) or draw (heavy weight heel) settings.

What and When?

As I said, we could be several months or more out on this lineup. Given that PXG released 2 new drivers last March (and quietly released a 3rd a month or so later), it would be a bit of surprise to see new models roll into production so soon. That said, it’s possible that one or more of these could replace the nearly 3-year old 0811 which has remained in the lineup alongside the 0811X, 0811LX, and 0811XF

Stay tuned, but don’t hold your breath…it could be a while before we know more.

Pxg if you dig a little bit is actually a very forward thinking company with a great vision. Appears to have many ex ping employees working there. All young They’re instagram and LinkedIn all is very positive If pxg clubs were sold at golf galaxy next to all the other clubs at the same selling price I bet all these negative comments wouldn’t be around and they’d be dominating the market. All the negatives are about price which I get. You read any golf forum out there of people who own pxg product and gotta be honest it’s tough to find negative reviews. I have zero pxg product in my bag but they’re on my radar. Been demoing they’re irons and yeah, they’re all that.

Although I’m not a PXG fan (just too arrogant for me) I guess if you have the money and want to try them, what the hell. I mean, think about how many people will spend 60 or 70 thousand on a car or 50 or 60 on a truck when a 20/30 thousand vehicle will get them something that will perform nearly the same. I agree with the notion that $ spent on a fitting and some lessons will do more for most people than fancy (gimmicky?) clubs but that isn’t nearly as cool.

Dennis you hit the nail right on the head. If other brands put as much into fitting there would be little difference.

So, Im thinking that the players that improved using PXG clubs , really benefitted from the custom fitting more than the PXG brand. They more than likely would have had the same improvement level if they had been custom fitted with Callaway’s, Mizuno’s , Taylormade’s , etc…

Very true. Surprising from an owner that publicly prides himself about being a veteran and loving all things American. You’d think he would want a true American product in his golf clubs.

If PXG is so great why arent the pros that are holding trophies on Sunday wearing the brand? Equipment doesn’t make the man…his game does.

If I had the money I would be all over that… I live in Silicon Valley and $ 2500.00 wouldn’t pay a month rent on a 2 bedroom apartment. My 1200 sq foot house goes for close to a million.

Nothing better than winning a $5 nassau off a guy with 10k worth of gear with my beat up blades and an odyssey putter that would make Snedeker’s look new.

I never pay much attention to what PXG is offering. I couldn’t afford their equipment. It would be interesting to know what the people who play PXG think of it. That might be a good article.

As a senior at 70 I don’t see where buying a set of PXG clubs will help my game. I’ve lost distance and now rely on my short game to be competitive. If I want another club I wait a year and can buy that club on line for half of the original price. I just bought a Callaway XR-16 driver and am how hitting the ball 15 yards longer than my older driver.

Tommy so ur saying a brand of club dropped ur cap 6 strokes? Or being properly fit for any brand of club will help drop ur cap..which is more likely. Sorry to say it but people on tour are not doing much with these things…literally Zach Johnson has fell off the planet…guy better go back to titleist

Bob Parsons stated mission for PXG was to spare no expense to make the world’s best clubs. Period. This technology, in the hands of pros seems to have garnered far more success for the women staff players than the men.
So blowing $5-6 grand on a fitting through a local retailer, or tens of thousands for a PXG ‘fitting experience’ is outside the realm of reality for most recreational golfers. IF however these nuclear powered, dolphin safe, carbon neutral, glow in the dark, state emblem adorned uber sticks actually won tournaments on a regular basis, well maybe we’d be inclined to save our pennies…..

Doing what to pros do a sure fire way to not find the right equipment that will actually improve your game. Their margins are completely different than a typical amateur. If you get fitted and PXG is the best for your game then I suppose then you can decide if it is worth it or not?

I’m curious as to why you think PXG has garnished more success for women staff players than men? The current list of LPGA players sponsored by PXG have 0 Wins. The PGA men’s staff has 4+. Not too mention PXG brought in the number one ranked LPGA golfer this year and for the first time since 2012 she did not get one win this year as well as dropped her world golf ranking from number 1 to number 9. So why is it that you think the women have been more successful with these clubs?

You could offer two gold pieces with the purchase of this product, but it would still be overpriced. Do you know anyone, besides a pro, that owns one of their drivers or iron set. Ridiculous pricing!

I know someone that bought a driver and irons. His iron play is a little better, but the driver is impressive. He’s gained about 30 yards and the dispersion pattern is much tighter than his old driver.

Just to add some insight to your 30 yard claim – the “someone” you refer to was clearly not fit properly for his previous driver. No driver head exists that could give you 30 more yards than any other driver head in the world when properly fit. Even an illegal driver with extreme COR/CT would not yield anywhere near that distance, not even close. When comparing any “known” brands, head vs head, both getting professionally fit for loft, shaft, etc., – they will all perform very similarly for distance on face center hits. Higher MOI drivers will lose less distance on off center hits, but again, nothing even close to 30 yard claims.

Did you improve your distance off the tee and on the fairway or improve your accuracy ,or both ,and what about your putting ?If your arguments are convincing ,I’ll buy a whole set of PXG wondersticks right away .
