Apparently, tour pros leaking pre-release gear is the new trend in golf social media. Joining Loius Oosthuizen and his PING Blueprint irons is Brendan Steele and his new Wilson D7 3-Wood.
Wilson’s D-series has traditionally featured lighter weight designs and longer shafts. It’s been for the golfer seeking more speed, so it’s at least a little intriguing to see a D in a tour player bag, though it’s reasonable to expect that Steele’s specs won’t precisely match what you’ll find on retail shelves.

I don’t think we can infer much about the aesthetics from a single sole shot, but… With the understanding that everything looks like something else, with blue accents around unpainted steel, and a matte black paint job, the D7 conjures memories of TaylorMade’s iconic JetSpeed.
Whether distance is the law this time around remains to be seen.

I can’t say anything about the Fairway or Hybrids yet, but the irons and the driver are red hot. I’ll at least look at the fairways and hybrids down the road, when I can get the time at a friendly shop down the street that lets me use my own golf balls in the simulator (Nike Hyperflights) and to do side by sides against my own clubs.
If these fairways are even half as hot as the irons, they will be game changers for old timers like me who can finally hit fairways again after working out the necessary specs. My Irons are fairly hot. They are Srixon Z-335’s with 1″ extensions and bent 2* flat. My 7 Iron is good for an easy 145 all day long from just about any lie, save from deep within the spinach where I can lose 10 yards, and even more if the spinach is wet and gnarly.
I kept up a powerful but smooth 3 count swing and my Srixons were 145 all day long, as if I was on auto pilot. The Wilson D7 iron was fit with the recoil shaft, and head adjusted 2* flat. Even though it was a full inch shorter than my Srixon, it was 150 yards day in, day out, and swatted it a couple of times for 170+. Launch angle was flatter than mine, and roll out was a good 20 of those yards on the longer 170 shots, but WOW!—-Add the inch to these shafts and I’d be gaining more than a full club with each iron. That’s just ridiculously good, as these Srixon’s are no slouches/ —PS/—The feel on these is pretty darned good too. You definitely won’t mistake them for forged Mizunos,,,,but they feel at least as good as any TaylorMade or Callaway I’ve ever hit. Really great effort by Wilson on these!
