Bought a set of Yamaha forged impress d irons in hk in 2012. Oversized irons very forgiving and good distance. These are Jap irons NS Pro 850 shafts expensive but for me will by my set for rest of my golfing life.

Right on schedule for me also, 4 sets of clubs in 20 years. Although this last set of PXG irons, because of my age is my last set! Well maybe, haha

The 4.5 year number is exactly right for me too. It probably takes me that long to feel comfortable and confident with the new irons in my bag. Then it’s time to move on to another set of irons.

I’m on an iPhone and I see no survey. I bought my AP1 716s about a year ago. I don’t think I’ll upgrade until these wear out. I look for high launching, forgiving irons.

Took me 12 years before I upgraded my set. All I can say is wow! I was playing with a starter set of Dunlop irons and moved over to a set Cobra Fly-Z’s. Such a huge difference. I had no idea what I was missing out on. Loft, forgiveness, spin, those were all words that had no meaning to me until my upgrade. One of the best things I could have done. I’m actually enjoying the game much more then I ever have. Next upgrade will be my woods and I cannot wait to see how that works out.

I filled in the survey. However, I have some comments.

Something tells me that MGS is NOT the one that wrote the survey. I may be wrong, but I hope I am not.

You see… if “I” were to write the questions for this survey, it would have included the following:

      1) How long have you had your current irons…. not “Have you owned your current irons for more than a year”.

      2) WHAT are your current set of irons.

      3) What is it about the irons you like?

      4) Why have you not changed from your current irons…. not JUST “what are you looking for in your next set of irons”

      5) What irons currently appeal to you, why do they appeal to you, and why have you not bought them.

Without those 5 questions, It seems like the survey is almost meaningless.

      So here are my answers

      1) How long have you had your current irons

      4 years

      3) WHAT are your current set of irons.

      TaylorMade Rocketbladez (Non-Tour)

      3) What is it about the irons you like?

I like the fact they don’t ding. I like the medium offset. I like the top-line. Not too thin, and not too thick. I like the distance and forgiveness they provide. I like the shaft in them (KBS C-Taper)

      4) Why have you not changed from your current irons.

Purely financial. I don’t have the money for new irons.

      5) What irons currently appeal to you, why do they appeal to you, and why have you not bought them.

Hogan PTx 6-PW, Hogan Hi 5 iron, Hogan Wedges.

I hit them at the PGA demo day, and they were fantastic.

Also REALLY liked the SRIXON 545 with Modus 120 shafts. Very close second

I like the dual bounce on both the hogans and SRIXONs

Umm…. since I started on club making 5 years ago I have have gone through 20+ sets of irons and still have around 5 sets in play. Not always upgrading to new but rather buy slightly used newer models from people who buy new and sell after a few rounds when it didn’t work out. This year I’ve settled on 2 sets and will probably stop changing equipment as it hasn’t really lowered my scores so in the end it’s my swing more than my clubs. Still I will try new equipment in the future just for enjoyment but not for the sake of lowering my scores.

Oversize forged irons are the best performing in my opinion. I’m now using JPX EZ Forged with NS Pro 950GH shafts. I think a lot of golfers would benefit from trying them out.

I am always on the lookout for a new set of irons. Right now I play 2006 Taylormade R7 XD’s with graphite shafts.

I have found some that I think are better. But the rub is they seem only marginally better. I keep hearing that if clubs that are 10 years old or older can’t standup to the new technology which is supposed to be so much better for forgiveness and distance. Some of the sets I have tried seem to be a little more forgiving but none of them give me any more distance at all. The extra overall performance is negligible at best.

I buy new wedges and a new Driver every couple of years but I can’t pull the trigger on new irons. If I could be wowed at a decent price I would be all in. That has not happened.

I guess if it is not broke though, why try to fix it?

Currently playing MacGregor Tourney VIP 1025M that I reshafted with UST ProForce graphite. Love the feel. I also play Ping i20. 9i through 58* are SCOR. If I could gain height and keep the same distance or increase distance with the mid irons, I would be happy.

I play HONMA BERES irons -MG 712-4 star shafts -handpicked -very expensive .
These SAKURA ARMRQ shafts are far Superior to any shaft you find on the market.
I see no need to change
I play to a handicap of 7 .I am over 82 years in age .I play 3 times a week,18 holes ,all year around .No winter ,no so called winter greens on the FRENCH RIVIERA .
My Driver and Fairway woods are KRANK ,fully forged heads .They deliver towering distances .

Did you ever see the commercial about the women that has a ton of shoes in her closet and keeps buying more and her husband comes in and can’t believe she keeps buying more? Well that’s me with golf clubs and my wife keeps saying when a new club comes “Not another golf club. Will you ever stop”? My reply to myself is “Is the Pope Catholic?”

Still playing my Cleveland 588 MT irons. They are still one of the best irons I’ve ever played. I would consider the Srixon 355 but, I’m really interested in trying the one length and only Cobra offers those at this time. If I don’t care for them I will look at Srixon.

I’m still playing my 588 MT’s as well. I just regripped them 4-DW with brand new Royal Grip X-Treme V Grips. They are perfect now. I used to think the Traction 85 Steel Shafts were too light in weight the past couple years but since I decided to slow my swing down just a bit they are fine. I believe these MT’s will stay in my bag until my Wife gets me cremated.

I went through an 18 month stretch where I had 6 different sets after getting rid of my Titleist 981 SL irons trying g more forgiving clubs and still shot the same scores should have worried more about my swing than the equipment. Now I have a set of Rocketballz and I like them just fine.

Dave…totally agree. I purchased some 2013 Rocketbladez Tour irons earlier this year thinking they looked nice..2nd hand but basically brand new. Have the KBS Tour shaft in them. They are okay but nowhere as nice as my 2001 Cleveland TA3s with Project X 6.0 Flighted. Have gone back to the Clevelands…many due to the shaft. Thinking about reshafting the Rocketbladez but will make them way too expensive.

I did the same, a few weeks ago. I changed to Rocketbladez tour but with KBS C TAPER S from x forged 2013 with 5.5 PXI. But I couldn’t be happier. And for me it was probably the weight of the shaft. I can now feel my shaft through transition. Also I personally love the feel of the heads up from 8 iron…
And I was in love with the looks of my old irons.. AND, I swore to myself I’d never buy Taylormades!
