(4) Testers Wanted: Galway Bay Rainwear

Here’s a question to start  your week off on the right foot:

Just how many pairs of pants should you have to wear to play golf in the rain?

If you were playing at Pebble over the weekend, you’d have needed a pair of long johns, your regular golf pants, and then a pair of rain pants. That makes three, if you count the long johns.

The folks at Galway Bay think you should be able to do it with just one.

Best In Show

The Georgia-based Galway Bay came out of nowhere in 2018 to tie for top honors in MyGolfSpy’s Best Rain Gear Buyer’s Guide. The pants are stretchy, comfortable and look like everyday slacks except for one thing: they’re waterproof.

Galway Bay offers both unlined and lined pants – unlined will keep you dry, the lined will keep you warm and dry – as well as long sleeved and short sleeved rain jackets and vests. Our testers loved them, but we want to know what you guys think.

We are looking for four of you to test, review and keep a set of Galway Bay’s premium rain gear (pants at $184, jacket at $299) – and let us know if our testers got it right.

How To Apply

All of MyGolfSpy’s Community reviews require a serious commitment on the part of the reviewer. You will need to be motivated, detail oriented and savvy with online forums, so please make sure you read the following instructions carefully and apply in the proper place.

Our member reviews are published in our Community Forum (click here to check them out). Writing a thorough, detailed and honest review is a lot of work – you’ll be writing detailed accounts of your two-month-plus journey, as well as participating in the MyGolfSpy Community Forum itself to answer questions and discuss product performance with other golfers.

That means to be a potential reviewer you must be a registered member of the MyGolfSpy Community Forum, where you’ll find nearly 70,000 like-minded golfers from all over the world anxious to talk about golf equipment.

To apply to test and review (and keep) a waterproof Galway Bay jacked and a pair of waterproof Galway Bay slacks, here’s what you have to do:

– First, please sign up for the MyGolfSpy Community Forum (click here to register).

– Second, apply ONLY in the Official Galway Bay Rain Gear Application thread in the MyGolfSpy Forum (click here).

We’ll be selecting our testers next week, so make sure to check the MyGolfSpy Community Forum to see if you’ve been chosen. Good luck!

Live and play in Portland, Ore. Home of the competition (Nike HQ, Adidas U.S. HQ, Columbia HQ). I play every week rain or shine, but usually rain, around 40″ a year, this gear would get a good test up here.

I took advantage of the 10% mygolfspy discount and got a pair of the pants and they’ve been phenomenal. There is a fee for alterations but the fact that they can do it was enough for me to get them hemmed. I’ve worn them as pants, or with long-johns under them on the chilly mornings in San Antonio and they haven’t let me down. I like that I can wear a belt with them and not have them look like traditional, oversized rainpants. You won’t be disappointed with fitted rain pants!

I live in the Pennine area of East Lancashire England. This is an old water mill town and that didn’t happen by accident, it was because of the consistently high rainfall we get. I’m pretty sure the waterproofs would get tested well and truly here. Love to try them and give you my findings and look pretty suave doing it!!

It’s too hot to wear rain gear in Far North Queensland, but waterproof golf bags are highly advisable if you are playing year round. How about a review or “Most Wanted” on waterproof golf bags, stand and carry? I’d happily participate :-)

I live in central IL and play 3-4 times/week; when the weather permits. As is typical in the Midwest, that can be minute-by-minute! Have been caught in downpours only a couple of times, but have played in drizzly conditions too many times – would love to be a tester!

I play on the south east coast in Littlestone GC in the UK, and I can tell you when it rains it pours, plus we always get 20mph plus winds, so the Galway Rain gear will get a good testing FACT

I normally carry very little and rain clothes . I am retired if it’s raining I don’t play . If I travel I take the stuff with me and if it looks like it’s going to rain I haven’t . Sometimes I’ll have the wind shirt on . I have rain pants and rain shorts and all the pens on the weather .

I play in Leavenworth, KS and spring season it gets quite wet. Currently use FootJoy rain jacket. Bucket hat and rain gloves, because I’ve never got along with pull over pants. Worst experience was a late summer unexpected downpour with only a non waterproof wind jacket.

It always surprises me how many of my fellow golfers let the weather influence their decision of whether or not to play. Maybe I shouldn’t complain. It’s nice to have a wide open course when it is just a little damp and a little cool. But maybe that’s being selfish. I’ll do my part to grow the game and encourage golfers to dress for the weather and get out there and play.

I am giving away my 1 Million dollar idea. Here it goes. A quality rain jacket with drop down kilt in the waistband and velcro front closure (ok, just turns it into a full length coat-more marketable in the US) Airy underneath with leg coverage when you need it, I know they would love this in Scotland.
