(4) TESTERS WANTED: Mizuno ST 180 Drivers

Mention Mizuno irons to any avid golfer, and you’ll get a twinkled eye, a quickened pulse, and heart palpitations. We act like a teen who’s just discovered Baywatch reruns on Hulu.

Mention Mizuno drivers and you’re likely to get a blank stare and a furrowed brow – sort of like a teenager who’s been asked about his grades.

Under the radar doesn’t begin to describe Mizzy’s presence in the driver category. But if you put any stock into MyGolfSpy’s Most Wanted Driver testing, it’s clear Mizuno has kicked the door down and is joining the party.

Mizuno ST 180 -2

TESTERS WANTED:

The Mizuno ST 180 was one of the surprise performers in this year’s Most Wanted, finishing 4th overall and first in carry distance. When we dial in swing speed, the ST 180’s performance is even more attention-getting: tied for 2nd for swing speeds over 105, and tied for first overall for 90-to-105 swing speeds.

Does that grab your attention?

Mizuno bills the ST 180 as a low-spinning bomber with a forged SP700 Titanium face and a Wave Sole that gives the face a little extra flex. It performed well for us, but now it’s time to find out how it performs for the golfers that really count.

That would be you guys.

We’re looking for 4 golfers to test, review and keep a Mizuno ST-180, with your choice of any of Mizuno’s no-upcharge shaft options. This review opportunity is open any avid golfer in the US or Canada.

Mizuno-ST-180-5

HOW TO APPLY:

Please read this part carefully, as this is going to be a popular test opportunity and we want to make sure everyone who is interested in applying signs up in the right place.

Hey MGS guys, just on my way over to sign up for the ST180 test, but just wanted to commend you on your patience with those that don’t actually read the articles before they piss and moan that you left out their favourite whatever from the tests, or sign up for things right below where it says don’t apply here. I would be showing off the extensive number of cuss words and insults that I know if I were you.

      Hi.
Who would not want to test this driver.
It would suit my Mizuno JPX EZ Forged, which would be the next after the driver, to upgrade to improve my game, and get my HCP under 10,0

Here is my entry for the .004% chance of receiving and reviewing the ST180. In the bag right now is a Srixon Z-545 with an AccuFlex Vizion Stiff flex shaft – would love the opportunity to bump it, although I do really like the Srixon’s head shape, sound at impact, and mis-hit performance.

      Hi
I am currently looking at this driver to replace my current Callaway X2 Hot.

      Recently purchased the JPX900 forged irons 4 – 9 and 4 x T7 wedges

This driver is very high on my list of drivers.
Currently playing off an 8 handicap with a 100MPH swing speed

Play at least every Saturday and more in the near future with inter club starting

Would love to put this in my bag and help me win a few more matches

      Thanks

I have this driver in my bag and its a bomber! My fitters a top 100 on golf digest and he mentioned the face is made of a titanium metal that all the companies used to use by stopped using because it was too expensive. Only ping uses a insert made of this metal, but Mizuno used it on the whole face.. also, you could pick basically any shaft on the markets ( I got a tensei white 70 gram)… AND its only $400! if you have a ss of 95 and higher, you have to try and buy!!

I am a current Mizuno iron player, I play to a 2hdcp and have been playing for 40+ yrs. I tend to stick with clubs that work. I’ve been using a Big Bertha Alpha and have not been as accurate with it as most my drivers in the past. I am able to test this in any timeframe desired and provide results. This driver did catch my eye from your results and have been thinking to test one outright since I enjoy most of their products. My swing speed is 94-97 depending on shaft and how I catch it. Thanks for the opportunity.

I’m every close to eighty years old, my swing speed is between 90/95 and play 4 days a week and play from the white tees. I’m satisfied with my Cobra Zero Limited extended one inch and would like to test the Mizuno. I currently get 235 to 250 yards on my drives depending how hard the ground is.

I’d love to get in on this but I don’t have the time to give it a proper go through and have barely been able to get on the forum and catch up on a bunch of stuff in months. Besides, I’ve still got a brand new JPX 900 that hasn’t had a chance to get the plastic off since I picked it up in January. Can’t wait to read the reviews from the staff though.

As a South African I think it is time for me to take MyGolfSpy off my list of things to read – if we cannot get to test anything from you guys what is the point of being a member??? Zip zero – yeah the articles are cool but one of the ‘perks’ of belonging to something is joining in the fun and all us guys and girls out there who are not US or Canadian citizens we are getting bubkiss……… so cheers and good luck!!!

      Hi Graham –

I’m guessing you missed the replies below, but I’m happy to respond again. As stated, I sincerely wish every review opportunity could be open to the entire planet, but often the OEM’s have separate and individual divisions around the world, and one marketing department has different plans and goals from another. We wish it were different, but alas, it’s not our call.

On the other hand, bupkis – and I love that word! – isn’t really accurate. We’ve had several worldwide review opportunities over the past few years, ranging from PING to Bettinardi to ShotScope to ACCRA to many others, and we’ll have more in the coming weeks.

Lastly, and this one’s kind of important – entering doesn’t mean chosen. We’ll get well over 1,000 applicants for this review opportunity, with only 4 drivers available, so….do the math!

Thanks for being a loyal reader and I very much hope you’ll keep reading. We firmly believe – and I think many will agree – there’s more to MGS than just a .004% chance of being chosen to test a driver. ;-)

Current gamer is Orlimar HipTi 420- I would be a great tester from several view points, but especially as a comp for users to see exactly how much difference a new tech head provides versus 19 yr old head. Might be illuminating- I would provide a base line(I use a current vintage shaft) so comparisons would be interestins. Would love to be a tester!

Test a ST180?! YES, PLEASE!!! I currently game a JPX-900 (10 of 14 clubs in my bag are Mizuno) , so very familiar with the product. I’ve played around with the ST180 and GT180 in shop a few times early when they came out, but never had the chance to see it on the course. I’m your 15 handicap range, 45 years and swinging it stronger than ever.

We do have worldwide testing opportunities, but we are often limited by OEM’s as to how far of a net we can cast. When we deal with an OEM, whether the opportunity goes worldwide depends on their corporate structure and how independent, say, the North American division is from, say, the European division. Their marketing organizations are often separate, with different goals, etc.

While we’d love to have every review opportunity open to the entire planet, we also understand the guidelines under which each OEM must work. We’ve had several review opportunities open worldwide already this year, and will have a few more in the coming months, so keep your eyes and ears open!

      Thanks for the consideration!

I wanted to cut and paste the response from above – but bottom line is while we’d love to have EVERY review opportunity open to the entire planet, OEM’s have their own guidelines and limitations, and the North American division of an OEM has its own guidelines and is often independent from, say, it’s European division. They have guidelines, and while it’s not perfect, we do respect their operational prerogatives.

We’ve had a handful of worldwide review opportunities this year, and will have more in the coming months, so please stay tuned.

In addition, while our forum members do enjoy review opportunities, most find the #1 benefit of participating in the forums is the ability to discuss golf, golf equipment and golf lifestyle topics with like-minded folks from all over the globe. They enjoy the hell out of it, even if they never get chosen to review equipment.

So I’d say THAT’S the point of being a member. ;-)
