(4) TESTERS WANTED: TrueGolfFit & Global Golf’s U-Try Driver Demo Program

Did you see that commercial where the mom wakes up her kid to go school supply shopping, the kid rolls over, groans at him mom, hits two buttons on an iPad and goes back to bed?

I’m not sure if it’s ever going to be that easy to buy golf equipment, but the wheels are turning in that general direction.

Last month we wrote about the debut of TrueGolfFit.com – a venture by MyGolfSpy’s Adam Beach and Tony Covey to bring you the world’s first true personalized online golf fitting engine. If you haven’t tried it yet, you simply give the website some basic information about your golf swing, and it filters through tens of thousands of real golfer test swings in its database to find one that matches yours. It will then tell you which two drivers will perform best for you.

Deceptively simple if you’re sitting in front of the computer, but behind the scenes, there’s a metric crap-ton of data and some heavy-duty algorithms to sort it all out.

But what if you want to try before you buy? Well, that’s where Global Golf and its uniue U-try program come in.

U-TRY B4 U-BUY

“Trial remains the largest hurdle to consumers buying products online,” says Global Golf VP Doug Smith. “We introduced U-try to overcome the inability to touch, feel and trial product before purchasing Golfers can try brand new clubs of their choosing, on their schedule, on their own course for 14 days.”

U-try is also deceptively simple: for $25 you can demo a brand-new driver of your choosing ($100 for an iron set) for up to two weeks. If you like it, keep it, and your demo fee gets applied to the purchase price. If you don’t like it, send it back.

“Golfers aren’t getting a used ‘demo’ club to try. It’s brand, spanking new out of our inventory,” says Smith. “Shipping back and forth is free. If you don’t want that club but want to buy a different club, you’ll get a code allowing you to apply that trial fee toward that purchase.”

Over 4,000 golfers have given U-try a try since its introduction six months ago. Smith won’t say how many demos have turned into sales but does say the sales generated through the program have been significant enough to expand the program going forward.

“We belive it represents a new trend in how clubs are bought and sold online,” he says. “Why would you want to buy a new club online with trying it first, on your own course for two weeks with essentially zero risk?”

And if you combine TrueGolfFit’s recommendation engine with Global Golf’s U-try? Well, you have one heck of a MyGolfSpy Community Forum Review opportunity!

Testers Wanted

This one’s kind of a doozy, so make sure you read carefully. We’re looking for FOUR avid golfers for a three-part test-and-review.

Our test group will first go through the TruFitGolf driver fitting process to select their Best Fit and 2nd choice driver. Then, using Global Golf’s U-try program, you’ll pick one of the recommendations and get to demo it for two weeks. Oh, and you’ll get to keep the driver once you’re done. You’ll be reviewing the TrueGolfFit experience, the U-try experience and, ultimately, the driver itself and how it fits your game.

“TrueGolfFit helps golfers understand the specific clubs most suited to their games,” says Smith. “U-try is the perfect complement to TrueGolfFit by allowing golfers to confirm the online fitting by taking the clubs out onto the proving grounds of their local course, with virtually no risk.”

This review opportunity is open to any avid golfer in the U.S.

How To Apply

All of MyGolfSpy’s Community reviews require a serious commitment on the part of the reviewer. You will need to be motivated, detail oriented and savvy with online forums, so please make sure you read the following instructions carefully and apply in the proper place.

Our member reviews are published in our Community Forum (click here to check them out). Writing a thorough, detailed and honest review is a lot of work – you’ll be writing detailed reviews of your two-month-plus journey, as well as participating in the MyGolfSpy Community Forum itself to answer questions and discuss product performance with other golfers.

That means to be a potential reviewer you must be a registered member of the MyGolfSpy Community Forum, where you’ll find nearly 70,000 like-minded golfers from all over the world anxious to talk about golf equipment.

To apply to be a part of this unique opportunity to review the TrueGolfFit.com fitting program, Global Golf’s U-try demo program and the driver TrueGolfFit selected for you, here’s what you have to do:

– First, please sign up for the MyGolfSpy Community Forum (click here to register).

– Second, apply ONLY in the Official TrueGolfFit.com & Global Golf U-try Demo Program Application thread in the MyGolfSpy Forum (click here).

We’ll be announcing our testers next week, so be sure to check the MyGolfSpy Community Forum to see if you’ve been selected.

I have always enjoyed investigating the new equipment and would love the chance to try new equipment and write a review I’ve played golf for 38 years and still it the ball well. Plus it would be a great to tell the wife, “I am testing this one!!!” she still won’t believe me.

I would be delighted to have an opportunity to trial test and write a detailed description of the experience with drivers, or any other golf equipment. I live next to the #9 fairway in a Florida golf community during six winter months, and belong to a local golf club in Central Illinois from May – November. My handicap is near 7 on good days, and may reach 11 on less than good days. Max carry distance is 275 yards with Titleist 917 D2. All my clubs are currently Titleist, which started w/ 910 D2, 915 D2, and 712 A1 and 714 A1 Irons. I have been playing golf 50+ years and used most major brands from steel shaft Mahogany heads to the 460cc oversize heads used today. I still have my first Titleist Woods and Ping Eye Irons, and complete set of Hogan Woods and Irons. Thank-you for your time and consideration of my application to test new equipment. Sincerely, Scott Tice

Just reshafted my old Taylormade burner from a stiff to regular shaft because of slower swing speed due to back surgery! I was loving it and managed to get a few 300 yd drives this year! The last one must have been too much for the old thing and it cracked! I loved that old club, but know in the elusive search for the replacement!

I’d like to try something new but I believe changing to a new driver would make little difference in yardage . for years golf club maker have taken it to the limits of face flex if you’re going to find a few extras it’ll come from a shaft change.. Am I wrong ?

I have had some experience testing golf balls for Titleist. It would be a treat to test some equipment for a change. Perhaps I could find a driver that would fit me and suit me. I’ll give it a good go.
