(5) TESTERS WANTED: Ben Hogan Ft. Worth Black Irons

With everything else going on in the golf world, it almost squeaked by that this year is the 65th anniversary of the Ben Hogan Golf Equipment Company.

Sure, it’s had more lives than your average cat, but the fact is Hogan is still here and has firmly planted its stake in the ground as an OEM to be taken seriously. It’s been an impressive year for the reborn company, with the release of the new Equalizer wedge, the new Hogan Edge iron set and a wee bit of a reboot of its original iron with the Ft. Worth 15 Black.

TESTERS WANTED:

Hogan introduced the Ft. Worth Blacks back in April as a slight update to the original Ft. Worth 15’s with modifications to the V-sole and some progressive center-of-gravity alterations to improve playability. And then there’s the look: a high-end Diamond Black Metal (DBM) finish that chemically infiltrates the 1025 forged head and lasts seven times longer than PVD.

Hogan says the Ft. Worth Blacks are designed for highly skilled players looking for accuracy, feel and consistency in their iron play. If you fit that bill, we’d like to give five of you the opportunity to try these out for yourselves and let your fellow golfers know if they live up to the Hogan name.

This review opportunity is open to any golfer in the U.S, Canada or the U.K. (Sorry lefties, only righties for this one).

HOW TO APPLY:

All of MyGolfSpy’s Community reviews require a serious commitment on the part of the reviewer. You will need to be motivated, detail oriented and savvy with online forums, so please make sure you read the following instructions carefully and apply in the proper place.

That means to be a potential reviewer you must be a registered member of the MyGolfSpy Community Forum, where you’ll find tens of thousands of like-minded golfers from all over the world anxious to talk about golf equipment.

– First, sign up for the MyGolfSpy Community Forum (click here to register).

– Second, apply ONLY in the Official Ben Hogan Ft. Worth Black Review Application thread in the MyGolfSpy Forum (click here).

We’ll announce our testers in the Community Forum next week, so make sure to check there to see if you’ve been chosen.

I am in the market for new irons. I am looking for something forged and I like how the clubs are dark. This is something new I am willing to try. I can see it being less distracting than a normal chrome finish club. I think I am a good candidate for this testing.

I am in the market for new irons. Currently moving into forged irons and I think these would be great for me to test out. I like the dark finish as it is less distracting to look at.

As John has stated, being a tester requires one to be dedicated and one who truly wants to game these irons.
Not just because you need new clubs . Check out the forum in the product testing section to see what is happening in the Cobra challenge . Those testers are doing a phenomenal job and are committed. It shows in the their feedback. And as a interested audience member, they are not dissapointing us.

Glad to see the extra effort towards maintaining the integrity of the black finish. I previously had a set of black TM’s that looked pretty bad after the first year. As a result, I was pretty well put off on black finishes. This is a chance for redemption. I’ve applied to be selected as a tester and am waiting to be selected. I’d give these clubs some serious scrutiny on all counts, as aesthetics are almost as important as performance to me.

These irons look great. Bh makes excellent irons for an outstanding price with great distance and for blades they are decently forgiving these new black ft worth irons look incredible and I would love to be able to test them out

These irons look amazing. I have the tk wedges in my set and they’re by far the best wedges I’ve ever used. Bh does it right and for a good price with with forgiving irons that hit the ball a mile. The new black finish looks sleek and they’re not charging any more money then the silver finish they’re staying true to the costumer that’s why I have so much respect for this company

They look really cool, but I hardly would classify as a “Highly Skilled Player”. Will leave this one for the single hcpers. Good Luck!

OK so before anybody says anything about cheap black finish trend, TM, Callaway, yada yada yada, if you don’t know about “diamonized” black, this is the real deal! If you like the black aesthetic, which I know many do, this is the egregious corner that the other OEM’s cut when deciding on how to finish their black clubs. Sure the other finish is a few bucks cheaper but was a dead giveaway that their objective isn’t so much making a quality product but making a few extra bucks. This is a finish that is implanted into the steel itself and not a coating. I play clubs with the same DBM finish and after a year of play, there is not so much as scratch to the finish. Kudos to BH for doing things the right way on these clubs and not poking the consumer in the eye to do it.
