Constantly striving to broaden the reach of its signature Caddie Shot Tracking and Analytics platform Arccos recently announced the launch of putter grip accessory specifically designed to seamlessly integrate an Arccos putter sensor with a SuperStroke CounterCore or Traxion grip. It’s not a feat of engineering likely to change the course of human history. Still, the latest from Arccos solves a long-standing point of consternation for golfers who’ve been forced to get creative in developing home-grown solutions to mount the Arccos putting sensor (which screws into the butt end of the grip) to the back of a SuperStroke grip. For those who aren’t aware, the issue is that SuperStroke’s counterweight port eliminates the small hole in the grip cap necessary to accept a screw-in sensor. I’ve gone the Gorilla glue and duct tape route, which, while functional, probably isn’t the look Arccos wants on display.

For Arccos users, it may feel like this has been a long time coming, but more importantly, it serves as a harbinger of where Arccos is headed and what it’s looking to accomplish. This isn’t meant to downplay how a small change can have significant ramifications, but the endgame for Arccos is something much more robust – dare I even dangle the overused game-changing descriptor.

For those who haven’t followed Arccos closely – which is pretty much the vast majority of golfers – the company has undergone a significant organizational restructuring (and fundraising campaign) over the last 12-18 months. Perhaps we’ll delve into the details of this at another time, but for now, the salient point is that things appear headed in the right direction, and there’s plenty of gas in the tank to ensure everything stays on course.

That doesn’t mean there haven’t been some pain points. When resources are devoted to planning and restructuring, those same resources can’t be applied to creating, developing, and bringing products to market. It’s the just nature of how such processes to go. Additionally, the consuming public likely underestimates how long it can take for something as seemingly simple as a putter grip accessory to go from ideation to the shelves. The net result is this – Arccos is in a better position now than ever before to move the company forward and continue to push the limits of what artificial intelligence can do for golfers, boundaries which Arccos originally established as a market leader.

While it makes perfect sense for Arccos to align itself with OEMs like Cobra and PING as well as grip brands like Golf Pride, Lamkin, and SuperStroke, the relationships are more complicated simply because there are more people involved. It’s not as though Arccos is making widgets. Golfers want precise distances, pinpoint analytics, and spot-on artificial intelligence, which puts a lot of pressure on engineers to make sure delicate electronic components can withstand routine use as well as the occasional club toss or trunk slam.

As Arccos progresses, it will be with the mindset to remove reasons for people NOT to use it and take what started as a series of devices and components and blend it into an experience that more or less just happens. PGA Tour players don’t need to do additional work to access Shot Link data, and while Arccos won’t be staffing courses with volunteers to measure and record every shot, the ultimate objective is for golfers to show up to the course, play, and have data available after the round – no extra effort required.

A reasonable analogy is to think of a sprinter running the 400m hurdles. With each improvement (or leap, if you will), Arccos is eliminating both a figurative and literal hurdle. To date, As evidence that the era of big data is upon us, Arccos has detailed information on 5 million connect clubs and over 200 million shots taken on over 40,000 golfer courses worldwide – and it’s just getting started.

What would you like to see next from Arccos?

On my third set of sensors, continue to experience arccos missing shots. They tell me it’s my phone. My iPhone 7 is less than a year old and works fine…. Very frustrating..

I love the Arccos system and I got used to the phone in the pocket real quick. The information is invaluable and I love going back to see specific shots on specific rounds. I ordered 2 sets of embedded grips and I am ordering the new putter sensors ….. I have dropped 3 full strokes off my index since adopting the system and concentrating on the information it’s given me..

What I don’t like is the phone needing to be in my front pocket. I would use it all the time if they have a solution for that.

I’m glad Arccos addressed this small problem. I had to make modifications to the counter weight of my grip to use the sensor. I have been using Arccos for several months now and absolutely love it. This new accessory works better (records putts more accurately than my modified sensor) and looks more appealing. Great article and well done Arccos!

honestly I think the arcos product is great and the putter grip will be a game changer for me since I don’t use it due to how annoying it is. What I would love to see is not really about the data or anything like that.. I would like to see the social side get better. Make it easy to see who’s using the product and easier to follow them, comment when you notice a friend played well or had different achievements.. etc.. like I said I think they be got the data thing down. Just kind of a boring app once you get into it.

I understand the concept of using tech to help but wonder if we are all losing the plot a bit. I am playing with 3 other guys and we all have different handicaps……….. surely as ‘sportsmen’ we should be relying on our ‘skills’ to play the game instead of relying on the above tech, green reading books, GPS etc etc. On the range I can understand the use of tech which helps you sort out your shots played, what distances you get to speed off the clubface but on the course……..?????

This was a long time in coming…just curious when Arccos will have a lower cost tracker so that those of us who have Cobra Bio Cell irons and some F7 irons can take full advantage of the newer technology improvements. I would get a Superstroke putter with Arccos technology on my putter shafts if I could. They truly are the best in the business!

I love Arccos and it’s really helped me improve my game. That said, I’d kinda prefer they quit dinking around with putter grips and go all hands on deck to get this freaking Arccos link figured out..

I’m being a little facetious, obviously they can walk and chew gum at the same time. I’m just beyond sick and tired of packing a load in my front pocket when I play..

I have to think they’ll be facing more competition soon in this space, from Garmin would be my guess, and they gotta get this thing figured out. The last update email I received from them on this issue was pretty disappointing.

More proof that golfers are some of the most gullible people around. What possible benefit can all the data be? “The data says I miss to the right.” Wow that’s helpful, now I don’t have to practice because I know what the data says. Sheesh

Golfers are certainly gullible, but what you said makes no sense. If I miss the ball to the right, I’d know what I need to work at correcting. Instead of going out blindly to the putting green and must hammering putt after putt. Now, how much that matter to the average joe is debatable.

I have used Arccos connect this year after buying a Cobra F9 driver, using it connected with my Android phone, but the battery usage is too heavy for 18 holes. The user interface is good and the data provided looks well, however a bit limited, but maybe with irons it would be more informative. But the battery issue would put me off buying the iron kit. Would be interested to see how the iron data compares to shotscope before buying either of them.

I liked my Arccos 360 and Arccos Caddie ! Thought it was a great app. Recently l got new hearing aids that Bluetooth to my iPhone which cause Arccos Caddie not to work at all and useless !! Arccos has no fix other than don’t use hearing aids

It’s interesting to hear from golfers which inefficiencies create the largest hurdles for would-be Arccos users. Like you, I”m not a huge fan of having a phone in my pocket and for ours (like Tony) it’s no big deal.

Personally, once I can have the sensors embedded in the grip of my choice and a link-style alternative, I’m all in.

They have a belt clip accessory, you don’t have to use tour phone and the clip is barely noticeable if at all. I personally just use my phone

Until Arccos link launches (if it ever launches), I can’t get back into arccos. Using a phone is brutal and using an android phone is worse…

I’m really surprised that arccos hasn’t come out with a standalone GPS watch or similar device with a user interface. Even when the Link comes out, we’ll still have to use our phone for yardages and to check for missed and duplicate shots.

I’m with JLukes!!! Waiting for the sensor has been both frustrating and seemingly never ending. When you speak of how resources are allocated, as far as I know, the Link was previewed and discussed before this putter grip accessory ever saw the light of day. At least to the public.

I cannot play with a phone in my pocket or on my hip, some can, all power to them. I heard about the Link and was in the process of ordering custom clubs after intensive time on the range, with my pro and demoing. When I decided to go with Cobra, a significant part of that decision was the Connect system AND the Link. Guess what, I’m still waiting and haven’t even activated my sensors.

Very frustrated and not sure the Link will ever see the light of day.

Actually don’t think the current system is bad, you can use Apple Watch or phone to keep track of shots as you go round. Link device will have same short comings as a specific watch for it or the shot link device.

This is good to know. I actually went with Arccos because I didn’t want that massive Casio looking thing on my wrist, but the phone in the front pocket…….so tired of it.
