The Mountain Course at Bear Mountain Resort – Victoria, BC Canada

Sep 22, 2013 | 22 Comments

I hear it all the time… Course reviews are great but you live in a little corner of Canada that no one really pays much attention to. Well I’ve traveled, played some of the best, stayed at top five star resorts and let me tell you I easily live in one of North America’s best spots for golf. So you know what? Pay attention.

One of these great spots in my home of British Columbia is Vancouver Island, located about an hour ferry from Vancouver. Now to say Vancouver Island is beautiful would be an understatement; to say it has good golf, would be a slap in the face. The fact of the matter is that Vancouver Island is not only a visually stunning place to visit, it’s also home to some of Western Canada’s best golf period. [READ MORE]

Get World Class Instruction at the Kapalua Golf Academy

Aug 26, 2013 | 8 Comments

As those of you who read the MyGolfSpy Forum know, I was fortunate enough to vacation in Maui this summer. As I was looking over golf possibilities for the trip, I came across a promotion offered by the Kapalua Golf Academy. The promotion included a three-hour instruction session at the Kapalua Golf Academy, lunch at the Plantation Restaurant, and then finished off with an afternoon round on the Kapalua Plantation course.

All of this for $339 – dropping to $309 if you can find another golfer, or two, to go with you. I was impressed by the deal, but more so intrigued with the nature of the instruction at the Kapalua Academy. I have wondered for a while what you can really take from one of these short course academies.

Are we talking about instruction that will yield lasting improvement, or is this just a cool three-hour golf activity? [READ MORE]

The ParMates Experience

Jun 26, 2013 | 19 Comments

Whenever I am in town I have certain spots that I like to get to each time I visit. But just the same, I make it a point to try something new that I haven’t done in the past. This trip, that something new was an evening round of golf with a ParMate, at the Royal Links Golf Club.

In the most simplistic terms, a ParMate is a female caddy. But, this is Las Vegas, and nothing is simple and everything is beautiful; much like the reflection I see in the mirror. A ParMate is a female caddy that is a professional model trained to do everything a typical caddy would except, carry your bag.

The caddy’s are models from the Henderson, Nevada, based Platinum Modeling Agency who work in partnership with Walters Golf. Walters Golf manages three golf courses in the Las Vegas area: Bali Hai (right on the strip near Mandalay Bay), Royal Links, and Desert Pines. Guests at any of the three Walters Golf properties can hire a ParMate for their round of golf. A ParMate really has only one goal and that is to provide you with one of the most enjoyable and memorable rounds of golf you’ve ever played. [READ MORE]

Diamanté Dunes, Cabo San Lucas, Mexico – Top 100 Golf

Oct 22, 2012 | 24 Comments

Top 100? What exactly does that mean? Does a cabana girl come out to greet you at the end of your round and whisper softly in your ear praising you on an amazing round while feeding you grapes? (one can hope)

This question filled my mind as I journeyed to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico to visit one of the area’s newest and highest rated courses – Diamanté’s Dunes – a links track built to the north of downtown Cabo. Originally opened to the public, the course went private at the beginning of this year and offers exclusive membership to property owners at Diamanté.

Course Review – The Glen Club

Sep 21, 2012 | 20 Comments

Quick, what’s the first name that comes to mind if I say, “Chicago golf course”? I suspect that the majority of people, Chicagoans or not, would say either Medinah or Cog Hill because of their frequent appearances as PGA Tour venues. But does that mean that these are the best courses in Chicago? Not by a long shot. I submit to you, my friends, that whether you’re a local or just in town for one round, The Glen Club in Glenview, Illinois is the must-play course in Chicago, and if you read on, I’ll let you in on why that’s so. {READ REVIEW!}
