4 months agoI’ve played a lot of golf on a course in a British Territory and the Brits seem to like to play on speedos and nothing else so yeah it needs some kind of dress code.. Does Harry know why they do this?

4 months agoPrivate clubs are what they are and make rules for themselves. If you and the rules mesh then join, stay or leave. What you see around the country is that for different reasons they are folding or going to semiprivate and allow public play.
I personally believe in the character of a person not the clothes. But I also believe that a person that takes care of their appearance may give you a clue to his character.

4 months agoI find some of the comments on this podcast to be detrimental to the game. One commentator still believes private golf clubs can make whatever rules they want. This is an exclusionary attitude that bars people of color, females, etc from clubs. It continues the image that golf is governed by a bunch of archaic old men and rules. Many people still believe that golf is a snobs game especially when it come to women at many clubs. When my club was private, the women didn’t even have membership or voting status. We lost so many members we turned public. This exclusion or bans in turn results in the youth of today(your future golfers) to see no reason to enjoy this game. I’ll always remember when my friend(a decorated marine) and I were invited to play at a local private club. He showed up in a nice shirt and nice levi colored pants. He was barred from playing unless he wanted to buy a pair of pants/shorts. He told them to f### off. I have been at the club on subsequent occasions and had seen their members during winter with levis on. Many private clubs have struggled as the old guard puts restrictions etc. and soon many members grow tired of this chicanery in a game already overburden with rules. I have always wondered what offends a person what someone wears. I guess if you see a homeless person and are a snob then this offends you. This country has gone from inclusive to exclusive with all the divisiveness and discord. I may not like what you wear, but I will not judge what type of person you are by what you wear. I will judge you on your character.

4 months agoHuh? While I agree with you about the relaxing of dress codes, what year are you in? A private club (at least in the US) CANNOT make a rule to bar anyone due to race, creed color, etc.. I was on the board of a private club for a bit and would have been run out of town if I proposed ANYTHING like that. Sadly, it just ounds like you just had a real crappy experience in your club. To me, there’s nothing “racist, culturally- insensitive, etc. about asking someone to wear a collared shirt and/or a specific type of shorts in THEIR club. Repeat, it’s THEIR club. But I do think it’s totally idiotic, and I’m very glad your Marine friend told them to f*** off. I’m definitely a college shirt and fairly nice pair of shorts in season, I wear the best quality that Walmart has to offer! But in the winter, I’ll wear numerous types of wind//rain/water resistant pants and as much uncollared underarmour on top as I need to keep warm.
am I one to uphold this specific decorum that golf clothes have always had, no. But do I want someone out there in a wife-beater and shorts that they just cleaned the yard in? Tough call, I hate to be restrictive with other people as I would hate them to be restrictive with me.

4 months agoYes we need a dress code- but condemning black socks is ridiculous- have you seen the shorts on some women players wear ? ( Im not complaining – just making a point?. ) and Poulter and Dayley’s pants ?
Colour shouldn’t be an issue!
