Bag Boy has always been a solid performer in Most Wanted testing. Whether it’s golf bags, travel covers or winning the push cart category, Bag Boy has held its own. However, Bag Boy is upping its game with the new Revolver XP.
Some may be thinking, “How can they improve on their previous model, the Revolver FX?” Granted, it looks very similar but small improvements make a big difference. Here’s a teaser. Bag Boy put the new Revolver XP on a diet and shed 1.1 pounds. That may not sound like much but we all know how happy we are when we lose weight. The XP is no different.
What’s Different About the Revolver XP?
The main highlight of the Revolver XP is its rotating top. (More about that later.)
The new addition to this bag is its external putter tube. Those with an oversized putter grip can stop struggling to remove their flatstick from the bag because this tube prevents snagging.
In my testing experience, one of the biggest problems with golf bags is storage. Some can fit lots of items such as rain gear, gloves, sweaters … the whole nine yards. But that’s no good if the pockets protrude into the divider shell, causing the clubs to bunch up and snag. The Bay Boy Revolver XP is built around a firm shell that is separate from all the pockets. In other words, the pockets are sewn on separately and attached to the shell to prevent any intrusion of extra items, allowing the clubs move in and out freely.
The Revolver XP, which is available in five colors, has nine zippered pockets, two more than the Revolver FX. The fleece-lined valuables pocket is now heat-sealed and waterproof. Another great feature is Bag Boy’s Top-Lok® Technology, a patented bag-to-cart attachment system that eliminates the need for cart straps. It works and works well.
A Revolutionary Spin on Technology
The revolving top allows the top portion of the bag to rotate 360 degrees, allowing the golfer to simply spin the top to select the correct club.
This feature has always caught my eye during testing. Not just because it rotates but because of how well it’s designed. Take each individual divider for example. Each divider has a full-length lining to prevent club snagging which is a godsend. In addition to the full-length lining, each divider has a “Clip-Lok” to cling onto the shaft for maximum security. That prevents the clubheads from clashing into one another. If that weren’t enough, Bag Boy has engineered “Grip-Lok” for added insurance.

A lot of technology and thought has gone into this bag and it shows. For those who are wondering whether this bag will be included in the 2021 cart bag test, I can assure you it will be. Then we will see how it holds up to our vigorous testing protocols.

1 week agoI just got my Revolver XP to replace my Callaway Strata bag.. I started golfing 6 years ago and bought a 12 club Strata set as I didn’t want to spend a lot of money on clubs and I was new to the sport.. My plan is over time to piece together a better set as I outgrow the clubs I have. The bag that came with the set is garbage, but you get what you pay for.
The Revolver XP is a big step up from my old bag and love all the features it has. The revolving top moves nice and the rubber top feels durable.. The Grip-locks to hold you clubs in place is a nice feature as well. I store my clubs in the trunk of my car year round because I like to go to the driving at least once a week. and the grip-locks hold them in place while I’m driving. The cooler pocket is what kind of sold me on the Revolver XP as well. What can I say, I like to keep my beers cold while I play 18 holes. It would have been nicer if the cooler was removable like the other bags Bag Boy sells. The dedicated putter slot is great to have so you don’t have to fish around for it while playing.
Their are way nicer bags out there than the Revolver XP. For the price I wanted to spend to upgrade my old bag and the features it holds, you can’t ask any more for a golf bag like this.

2 months agoI’ve been looking for a 14-club, individual full-length dividers for my ClicGear cart. Not a fan of the slope, but no good options there. Most cart bags have the driver in the top position, but then that leaves the putter clanking around and bumping against the cart and the other clubs cover the putter. So having a rotating top, coupled with the dedicated putter well on the side – I just ordered one of these today. I’ve been a Ping Pioneer guy for 6+ years, but they just don’t work well enough on a push cart, going for something different.
There’s a real challenge for golf cart and bag manufacturers, give us an upright golf cart or a bag that works well for a push-cart.

4 days agoI took out the Revolver XP cart bag for it’s maiden voyage today. Some of my thoughts…
When I bought it, I was on the fence whether it’d be good enough to replace my Ping Pioneer bag. For starters, it’s 1.7 lbs heavier, not a deal breaker, of course. I really miss having the key holder inside the pocket on my Ping Pioneer. But, the Revolver XP has a nice valuables pocket that’s waterproof. The clips for your clubs are pretty tight, some were difficult to get my club to snap in them (for example, the driver), but it was a high of 50 degrees today, so I think that could have something to do with it, plus – it’s brand new, so over a time it should loosen up a little bit. There are ample pockets and the cooler pocket is really deep, so you could easily hold more than you’d probably drink. The “revolver” features works really well, though I’d like it to be a little stiffer. The clubs didn’t rotate or anything while I walked with my cart, that was a concern before I bought them. No issues there.
The external putter well works well, though I’d like it to be a couple more inches deep. Again, not a big deal, but with the putter in it – it stands up pretty high.
Overall, I’m pretty happy with it. Will it replace my Ping Pioneer? Yes, it is. And I’ve been a Ping Pioneer bag guy for the past 8 years or so.
This bag is pretty close to awesome, especially for those who use cart bags on their push carts. – I’d buy it again!

2 months agoI have the 2020 Revolver XP, have had it about 10 days. It isn’t as good as the one I had from 2008 and the top on that one has really started to fall apart.
Based on your comment, I found the Bennington Quiet 14 lite and had a big discount coupon, so I ordered it at an out the door price that was less than the Bag Boy. Quiet 14 seems so much simpler than having to push the grip into the grip-lok and the shaft into the clip-lok after each use.

2 months agoI like the concept, but the weight could be a problem. This is listed at 8.6 pounds. With my Bag Boy Chiller as a comparison it comes in at 5.4 pounds, and I think that is heavy. I travel for golf frequently and just miss the over weight fee at the airport by 4 pounds. So this would put it right on the edge. ( I do go through my bag before every trip to remove any unnecessary weight)

2 months agoI had a similar bag (Founders club) with aplastic top for clubs to sit upright. But since I always walk at my course, it proved really heavy & cumbersome to push around so I ended up going back to a smaller bag.. If I rode all the time, I would consider it. I also found though, that the plastic inserts on the top on the bag tended to scratch my graphite shafts. And the brand I have, one of the side handles that was riveted on broke off a few months after purchase. So I wouldn’t purchase that brand again

2 months agoSome years ago I treated myself to a bag with a similar top, but it was fixed.
The fixed top was of a rubbery sort of material / compound. While in my garage for a few weeks, the top started perishing / disintegrating. It became tacky and unusable and I had to dump it. Check the material of this revolving top out. I can’t definitely say who the manufacturer was but the design seems very similar to the one I owned.

2 months agoHad the 2008 version which lasted about 5 years before the top started to disintegrate.
Bought this new version and have to say, the older version was better.
1) The new version doesn’t work well with gap and sand wedges. The shaft clip-lok top is higher and instead of the end of the shaft, it aligns with the hosel, which is likely to cause the top to fail more rapidly. So you get to choose, have the shaft clipped in but not the grip by the grip-lok, have the shaft in the clip-lok but not the grip in the grip-lok or have the grip in the grip-lok and force the hosel into the clip-lok that’s designed for the narrow shaft tip..
2) Two of the dividers don’t have the clip-lok, so the clubs in those slots will move around, while in the cart. Since the point of the top is to secure the clubs and keep them from bag chatter.and damage, this isn’t ideal..
3) They have been making this bag long enough to avoid these issues and they had it right on the older top design, the current version of the top is is a backslide IMHO..
4) My experience with the 2008 bag was that the grip-lok eats soft grips like WINN or comparable but didn’t seem to do much to more durable grips. On the 2020 version, the grip-lok seems to grab the grips much tighter than the older version even when new..
What do I like about the bag?
1) The clip-lok and grip-lok, protect your clubs from damage when in a cart or when they are in your trunk, being carried, etc., it’s a huge upside.
2) The rotating top allows you to easily access all your clubs quickly without hunting for them and is great at organizing them.
3) I have an oversized putter grip and the new putter tube is designed to accommodate that, a step in the right direction.
Other than the pros / cons listed, it’s a pretty normal cart bag, with typical features., it’s a good bag.

2 months agoI’ve had my Revolver for about 5 years now. Besides the strap breaking, the bag looks good and I play quite a bit of golf. This new version looks really nice. Maybe when my bag wears old, I’ll upgrade to the new one.

2 months agoI hate bags with individual dividers… just give me a standard staff bag with 6 dividers and I am good to go. The current Callaway bags are great even on a golf cart, you can get at all the pockets you need.

2 months agoI had version BB Revolver 1.0 and was nice while it lasted but the shaft snap=ins weaken over time. I have moved on to the Bennington Q14. Best bag on the market hands down. I have 3 of them!

2 months agoRisky – you’re going to love the Q14 lite. I have 1 lite and 2 originals. The lite will start fading within a year but the top organizing will last a long time.

2 months agoI’ve used one of the first versions of the rotator for years. The best feature was the outside putter and wedge clips. Then they went to the putter sleeve, now nothing. Too bad. I’ll have to keep my money for a while longer.

2 months agoCool! I’m not even in the market for this right now, but I’m impressed by the innovation, in a category that has been sorely lacking in innovation for a while. I just wish the color/ design was a little more interesting. Looks a little outdated, or cheap…

2 months agoI already use a bag with 14 spaces, so accessing the desired club is relatively simple. The full length dividers would be a nice addition though. Even with what seems to be a very reasonable price, I don’t see enough upside to think about changing.

2 months agoIm still using the ogio silencer. I have both cart and carry bags and love them both. Not sure i need a revolving top or having click my club sideways into a slot. The ogio just allows me to drop club straight down and it locks in place. Top on it is better too. The stitching hasnt ripped, keeps debris out pretty well, and it can still do the ‘clubs upside down trick’ and still hold them all w/ midsize grip minus the putter of course, after five years of use. BUT…..Callaway bought them out and dont make them anymore. What a shame. I talked one of my playing buddies into getting one back then as well. Its so much better when you can talk and play music without the club chatter in the background riding down the bumpy cart paths or fairways. I noticed on this one it only has 12 shaft slots, the two dividers in the middle dont have slots. Why? Would I buy this bag over the Ogio?….Nope! Would i buy it if my ogio’s bit the dust and this is all they had available to go against amateur chatter bags?…..Yep.

2 months agoI have used the 1st 2 versions of this bag and continue too. I didn’t buy the FX because they didn’t have the external putter well. What l have always liked is I can put it on a riding cart with all the woods in the back and short irons in the front and i did not rotate when grabbing a club. Then when I put it on a push cart in stead of having irons banging into driver shaft I would rotate 180 degrees woods would be in the back with short irons in the front. Weight reduction is a great thing, my only complaint now is this bag is on the large size, my friends use this bag also and it is a struggle to get 2 bags on the back of a cart.. The 1st 2 models had a putter well on each side of the bag and that was nice, depending on which side of the cart you sat on putter was always on the outside. Looks like XP only has 1 putter well, not a deal breaker for me. I intend on buying one of these.

2 months agoHave they upgraded the zippers too? I’ve been using the Bagboy Revolver since the first model but none of the zippers work very well. They all bind or just plain won’t move after a couple seasons of use.

I think this is a really cool idea, but given that the top appears to be a pretty sturdy plastic, I would be concerned that it would chew up the paint on graphite shafts.

2 months agoHow does it fair on a pushcart? The version I had (several iterations ago) was a bit bulky and the top didn’t rotate that well (not that it needs to and the weight reduction is a great thing).

2 months agoI have mine on my 3 – wheel push cart, and it works fine. The problem os it has soooooooooo many pcokets i fill them all up and the bag can get extremely heavy

4 days agoTried it out today, for the first time, on a push cart. Really happy with it. Now my driver is in the top position, like I want it. Plus the external putter well is plenty wide for my over-size grip. Very happy with it (see my comments higher in this post for more info).

2 months agoOn the 2 of these bags that I have had the resistance has been pretty good, while driving around the course during a round I hardly notice any spinning on it’s own. Very easy to rotate by hand.

2 months agoThe bag is water resistant but not fully waterproof. However, any valuables you do have can be stored in the waterproof pocket.
