New & Improved! – Online Golf Ball Fitting Tool!
golfballselector

Today’s article comes to you from our friends over at GolfBallSelector.com.  These guys are some of the most knowledgeable experts in the business.  And another reason we really like them is because they are 100% un-biased and 100% brand neutral in their testing and recommendations they give you.

About The Man Behind The Testing

“Mitch Voges, creator of the Max Out Golf System and GolfBallSelector.com is such an innovative and pioneering site that Golf Magazine named Voges one of its 12 “innovators of golf” in its December issue.

Since the project started in January, editors at Golf Magazine considered hundreds of worthy candidates and picked the 12 best, including Voges and his GolfBallSelector.com creation. Voges is recognized as “The Maverick” for helping players choose the right golf ball for their unique style rather than simply relying on advertised performance claims by the ball’s manufacturers.”

New & Improved Golf Ball Fitting Software!

GolfBallSelector.com is very proud to announce our initial 2010 Release of online golf ball fitting application! This completely updated version is based on the critically acclaimed proprietary technology and fitting system of the original GolfBallSelector.com system first introduced in 2007 and member-tested and enhanced over the past 2 years – as our extensive golf ball testing database has grown to over 90 balls now evaluated and incorporated into this new update.

The new 2010 release of GolfBallSelector.com includes a newly designed User Interface that helps each member better tune and track their fitting session. We have added video help aids throughout the site to help you understand how you should think through the fitting questionnaire and input data and weightings from the interactive system.

New Swing Profiling Features Added

New swing profiling features and tools have been incorporated, such as an innovative “Angle of Attack” module that helps the system adjust for how spin is created by your unique swing. A golf ball trajectory simulator is built in as an aid in helping you think through how best to describe your golf ball flight path in getting the most out of GolfBallSelector.com.

We conduct independent and rigorous testing of golf balls and are 100% brand-agnostic (non-bias) when it comes to our recommendations for each specific member.

You want me to pay you to tell me what golf balls I should use? Really? Are you kidding me? No? WOW. I respect their knowledge of golf balls and all but why would I pay who knows how much money to have an online test tell me what ball I should use. I should repeat the word ONLINE. No matter how thorough this test is it couldn’t come close to a field test I could conduct myself. I know people. I have a feeling I could get a test together of atleast 30 of the best golf balls. Not to be biased, but I don’t think I need to test a Nitro ball, for example. Or on second though I could probably get my local club pro to do a test for me for probably as much as this thing would charge, only way more thorough. I mean really, how realistic and consistent can an online ball test be? All I’m saying is that I respect these guys, I’m sure it’s not a bad test, but there is no way I would give money to an online company to tell me what ball I should use.

Before GBS was started there was a gentleman, name eludes me at the moment, who had a website and presented ball information in a very unique way. He was approached by Mitch to team up and utilize his extensive testings to create GBS.
Now while I have not availed myself of their services, the concept is sound.
When I used the old public data and was honest with an assesment of my skills I found that the balls I chose performed admirally and I used them until no longer available..
Now if this site provides the flexibility to explore the data in the same manner that the original did then you will not be disappointed. The info is all trackman driven and unless they are so unscrupulous as to change data, you will find two or three balls that will aid your game in a positive manner.

I can see both sides on this topic. I just don’t think the difference in balls is as significant as the ads claim. I am a 10 handicap, so I am a low 80’s player.

I think the 10 – 20 yard differences are for people selecting the worst possible ball vs the best possible ball for their swings. I think most people naturally gravitate to the ball category they feel is worth it, are comfortable with, and perform for them (essentially achieve the most overall utility). I really do not think the HX Hot is 10 – 20 yards longer for me than an NXT Extreme or an E6.

As an example, if the ball was this significant to me, I would see better distances and scores when I played a round with a taylor made black vs the HX Hot I played last week with. If that happened, I would believe it more. Most of the time, my overall results are about the same. My short game is where I lose shots and it is not about the ball, it is about me.

I guess I am just a cheapskate. It sounds like it has worked for others. I just have a hard time believing it would impact my game.

I think you have a point in what you are writing. People chooses ball, perhaps sometimes to expensive for their budget. However they will not se the big distance change during a round. That´s because of their lack of consistency in hitting the ball at the same place on the club every time. This is even more important when you are putting the ball!! Ad on that a different golf ball each hole/round. A putt can be almost 2 m shorter on a 20 meters with different golf balls. The best advice I can give a golfer is that they start using one ball with the same brand and model. Otherwise it will be the same thing as you would play pingpong with a pingpong ball at one time and other with a tennis ball.

I suspect Mads’ viewpoint is far more common for the average golfer than will appear on this forum. Frankly, unless you are at least in the 80s, I think Mads has a point. Mitch Vogues has quite a bit of credibility, despite glowing praise from Golf Magazine (I despise the mainstream golf media). However, I would suspect that you would need good quality launch monitor data to maximize your investment in their system

I have been a member for over a year and its a great site, they also just updated it so that you can further pin point exactly what is important/ not as important in a golf ball. Hands down worth the price of admission, to be honest I was playing ProV1’s and came to find that there was a better ball out there for me, so actually they have saved me $$$$. Give them a try, you may be surprised..

I think its a good idea! The regular golfers has no knowledge about golf balls so they choose different ball brand and model several times during a round. Of course their short game are a complete disaster. This site can help them save money and strokes…

Yes and these guys are the real deal when it comes to testing the hell out of the golf balls on the market for golfers.

I think ball play consistency is plays a major role in ones game. Just say for example you think you hit your 8 iron 150 yards and you change balls during the round to a ball that gives you 3 yards less distance with you 8 iron. You have now missed the pin by 9 more feet and you changed nothing in your swing. The ball should be considered a major part of the fitting process for every serious golfer.

I just check this out!!!! What the story here? I have to pay to become a member to select my golf ball. I am sorry, but that’s a joke and actually a really REALLLY bad joke. I assure you they will not get my money and I have to the idea about a ball selector is good, but I would NEVER subscribe to it or pay money to get this sort of service. If I really wanted to test a new ball I will buy some and try them out in different situation and weather conditions. That would be cheaper and fare better than paying $20 – $30 -$40 – $50 to read about different golf balls.

      I am choked!

Could not disagree more. First of all you are dealing with the #1 golf ball guys in the business they know them better then anyone else and expert advice is worth the price alone.

Secondly you would have to pay more then this to go out and buy balls like you said you would be paying more for the balls you test then for GolfBallSelector. Don’t think you thought this one out to well.
