The Club Report – Krank Rage Driver

:: A Long Drive Cross-Over

While we (im)patiently await the arrival of the forthcoming (like literally any damn day now) Element Driver from long drive powerhouse Krank Golf, I decided to take a look at (and try and put a little hurt on some golf balls) with the company’s Rage Black Driver (which, strangely enough, is available in white…go figure). Krank Rage Black – White…yup, that’s a real thing.

While The Golf Channel is planning to change a few things, historically, it’s not like Long Drive has gotten a ton of airtime. Quick…name one long drive competetor. Sure…you probably guessed Jamie Sadlowski. Can you name 3 more? Didn’t think so.  The guys winning championships…they aren’t exactly household names, and neither are the brands they represent. Those brands…Krank, Geek, SMT;  they’ve dominated the sport for years (Krank drivers have won the RE/MAX Long Drive Championship 3 years running), and yet most golfers still would never consider bagging one of their drivers. Why is that?

I’ll tell you why. Brandwashing.  It’s a vile disease.

Most of us grew up playing what we saw on TV, and consequently what we found on the shelves in our local proshops. One definitely leads to the other, and it does so to the exclusion of everything else.  If you’re a component company…or worse,  you’re viewed by the consumer as a long drive component company, finding your way in that guy’s bag is tougher than winning an Oscar in a year when Daniel Day-Lewis is nominated.

TaylorMade, Titleist, Callaway, or PING…they all have straws, and they drink the milkshake. They drink it every time (yeah…I know…different year, different movie, but I haven’t seen Lincoln yet).

:: A Pervasive Perception Problem

The long drive circuit is all about distance right? If you want to hit the ball as far as nature will allow you to in an open field, Krank makes all the sense in the world. Long drive is all about distance. You want to hit fairways, play good golf, and generally shoot lower scores…you need an OEM club. Long drive is not about accuracy. That’s the majority mindset, anyway.

So let’s put it out there right now. I didn’t exactly have high expectations when it came to the Krank Rage Black. Those long drive guys are bigger than most of us. They hit it farther than most of us, but they’re not exactly known for what you might call precision golf.

My thinking was that while Krank would probably be solid for distance, finding fairways might be next too impossible. The upside…300 yards into the woods is still 300 yards. Besides, even if chicks don’t really love the long ball, us guys sure like to think they do.

:: Specifications

Krank Rage Black drivers are available in lofts of 4°, 5°, 6°, 7.5°, 9°, 10.5°, and 12°.

Retail price for a head only, or the head with the stock Krank exclusive Aldila Authority (high launch) shaft is $299.00 You can upgrade to the lower launch, lower spin Tour or Tour Light (50g) shaft for an extra $99.

You know you’re in long drive land when you find a 4° head as a standard option . While I’d politely suggest that very few of us would benefit from a driver with no more loft than the average Scotty Cameron, I’m sure our left-handed friends will be excited to learn that every loft Krank makes, even the 4°, 5° and 6° models, are available for the guys swinging from the other side.

:: Looks

It is my contention that, more often than not, the only two things that separate big OEM products from smaller component brands are paint and polish. While the little guys sink the tremendous majority of their budgets into making sure the products perform, bigger companies have the luxury of  investing in performance, and still spending a little extra cash to make sure the clubs look good too. It’s rare (though not unheard of) that a reader will suggest a big OEM club looks like it belongs on the shelf at Wal-Mart. With some component brands, it’s an issue.

That’s not to say everything appeals to everyone. Whether it’s Cobra’s orange, blue or sliver, Nike’s red, TaylorMade’s graphics, or the Cleveland Classic’s retro look, it’s safe to assume that no design is going to resonate with every golfer, but what the majority of big OEM designs have in common is that, even if the designs aren’t your thing, the finish is impeccable. They look the part of a $300 (or $400…or $700) club.

Unlike many of the component brands we see, from a purely aesthetic perspective, the Krank Rage mostly holds its own. While like almost anything else that shows up at my office, there are elements that I don’t love, the larger point is that nothing about the finish looks cheap or unrefined.

I’m certainly a bit more fond of the black version where the raised portion of the crown is matte while the rest of the crown is the traditional glossy black. The Limited Edition white model utilizes the same matte surrounded by glossy pattern, but with the white the difference in finish is less pronounced, and frankly glossy white paint on a driver has never really done it for me. I didn’t like in when Cobra painted the ZL, and I’m not loving the white here either. It’s not a bad thing…it’s just not my thing.

Any time there’s a little something extra on the crown, a few people are going to get agitated. The red accents don’t impact me either way. I’m sure some will think they’re great, and others will talk about bygone days of yore when crowns were all black, and that’s how they’re supposed to be, and red paint has ruined the golf industry…or something like that. Personally, I score it no big whoop…out of some amount of whoop.

Generally speaking I like the sole design, the Krank Rage Logo, and everything that goes along with it, but again, I just don’t love the glossy white. In this case, I’d personally buy the black model.

The taller than average crown makes for a driver that appears more compact than it’s 460CCs suggest it should, which gives the driver a slightly rounded appearance, and if not for the visibly raised middle section of the crown, we might be throwing around the word traditional to describe the general appearance…you know…except for that red paint thing. In two dimensions (and black and white), the Krank Rage would pass for standard issue. In the 3 dimensional, color-saturated world in which we live, the Rage is quite distinct.

Perhaps the most unique feature of the Rage (and upcoming Element) is the lack of distinction on the face. While scorelines on drivers are purely cosmetic, nearly every driver on the planet has them. The Krank Range is one of the few exceptions. The face is entirely devoid of any markings, scorelines, or anything else that might give the face some texture.  It’s as smooth as a baby’s backside, which ironically enough is pretty damn bad-ass.

:: Sound and Feel

Even when you find a component that looks the part of a serious golf club, very often, when sound and feel are considered, the clubs fall flat on their faces. “Tinny”, “like a garbage can”, “hollow and dead”. These are all things we’ve heard used to describe component clubs…and yeah, in some cases, even OEM clubs that definitely should have been designed better. My predictive opinion on the Krank Rage was “dull and clunky”. No way it could hunt with the big dogs of the industry. As it turns out, however, for a company most of you have probably never heard of – where sound and feel is concerned – Krank most definitely is wearing big boy pants.

I’m not going to sit here and tell you that the Krank Rage is the best feeling driver I’ve ever hit. I still have my favorites, but on the days I hit the Rage Black I hit a handful (minus the thumb) of other drivers, and Rage was definitely near the top (I’d rank it a solid #2), and infinitely better than the clubs that trailed the pack. Even mishits lacked any clunky, or worse, overly harsh feedback. I definitely knew when I missed I missed, but I didn’t get dinged (or clunked) for it.

My point in all of this is that, because of  its long drive roots, some of us might be inclined to think otherwise, but Krank has produced a driver that from a sound and feel perspective, is easily competitive with PING, Adams, Nike, and basically everyone else who makes most of the drivers that are in most of your golf bags.

It’s legit.

:: Performance

This is the part where most of you might be expecting that I’m going to tell you that the Krank Rage is the longest driver I’ve ever hit.

It’s not, so I’m won’t.

The reality is that it wasn’t even the longest driver I hit on the days that I tested it. When I test drivers for a club report I almost always hit them along side my current gamer. It’s going to be tough for any off-the-rack club, which is what the Krank Rage I tested basically is (even with the Aldila Authority Tour shaft installed). I’ve spent countless hours tweaking and tuning my current setup, and while I still haven’t put a shaft I love in it, it’s almost custom fit, and it’s almost always going to beat off-the-rack.

The other driver that beat it is something I’ve been hitting for another project we’re working on. While I wasn’t fully custom fit for that either, the shaft I’m hitting it with isn’t anything you’re going to find off-the-rack either, and it’s one that generally fits me very well. Like my gamer, it’s almost custom fit, and for raw yardage, I expect it too would beat most anything else.

The lesson here: off-the-rack might work, but custom…and even almost custom, is almost always going to be better. That’s not a knock on Krank, that’s just what we call reality…and the numbers don’t even begin to account for familiarity.

So what do the numbers actually say?

The Krank Rage Black, on average, produced only 4 yards less carry than my gamer. 4 Yards isn’t insignificant, but neither does it tell the whole story. Remember, the larger mystery here was how well a club widely-regarded as just for long drive guys, would hold up from an accuracy perspective. Hitting it dead straight, I didn’t think was realistic. Just keeping it out of the treeline would have felt like win.

As it turns out the Krank was the most accurate of the bunch. On average, I was almost 5 yards closer to the centerline with the Krank than with my gamer (2nd best). That alone was enough to get me thinking…

When I took a closer look at consistency, or what the industry generally likes to refer to as forgiveness, I found that across the board, for every metric that matters…ball speed, carry, accuracy; the numbers were much tighter, and much more consistent with the Krank. While my best shots weren’t quite as long as the longest I hit with the other (almost custom clubs) clubs, the results with the Krank Rage were the most repeatable.

Given Krank’s roots as a long drive company, I wouldn’t have been shocked if the Krank Rage proved to be the longest, but the most accurate and the most forgiving? Huge surprise.

:: The Takeaway

It’s going to take more detailed testing to tell you definitively if Krank is producing the best, or even among the very best drivers in the sport. What I can tell you is that the numbers suggest it’s every bit as good as those big OEM clubs we test nearly every week. It’s definitely a brand to consider.

No doubt some are going to have an issue with the lack of custom offerings, but that’s mitigated by the option to purchase just a head. And yeah…Krank is no doubt losing customers because the sole of their club is stamped with “Krank” instead of…well…you know…those names you find on the shelves at Dick’s and Golf Galaxy…the same brands that other publication gives gold medals to year after year, but if you’re one of the growing number of educated golfing consumers who understands that logos don’t always equal performance, then go find yourself a Krank driver. Hit it, and decide for yourself.

The Good

:: Much more accurate than expected

:: Extremely consistent (forgiving)

:: Feels as good as most anything else

:: Can be purchased as a component (head only)

The Bad

:: Limited selection of stock shafts

:: High-gloss white is not my favorite

:: Lack of retail distribution makes trying before you buy difficult

:: $299/$398 price point may cause some to look at better known commodoties

      Well here it is 2020, the year of The Big Panic. I bot a used 12 deg reg flex (Fujik Diesel) Krank Rage off ebay just before everything shut. Yesterday I went to the range and hit it. I love it. I do need a flexier shaft. I am 65 and hit rg flex irons but slow down a little on woods and Driver. Dispersion was fab. I hit about 15 balls. No track monitor or such, just my eyeballs. Most of my hits would have been fairway, not jungle. Now I might sell my newly purchsed driving iron because I don’t need it????

      From right handed golfer, male, 159 cm, 82 kg, 80 – 95 Mph, Nancy Lopez tempo, full strong grip (I grip the club in line with head position when rest freely on my shoulder, so its equal to 4 knuckles grip on address)

      Bought Krank Rage 10.5 deg club heads from Fit One Golf in Indonesia back in 2008, fitted to UST Mamiya Proforce V2 High Launch Stiff 55 g (I don’t like the stock shaft, sorry), and weighted to D5.

      And to this day, this clubs still the most consistent clubs in my bag; means, when my other clubs play messed up, my swing with this driver is always the last to messed up, always the same consistent pulled fade to straight fade. :)

      Want to try to swing Krank Formula 5 once, but could not find it anywhere in Indonesia.

      Furthermore, still can’t understand why this Formula get bashed around so much in forums :(

      Just watched the Bluff City Shootout today here in Memphis. Had a great time and got to meet Tim Burke. I’d love to look into buying a long-drive setup, but have never swung anything other than OEM drivers. Any opportunity to demo some Krank clubs (lefty) in the Memphis area?

      I was a 205-215yd yard driver. If I crushed it I might get 220yds. With the Krank formula 5 driver I now hit regularly 235-245yds with Horrible mishits going 220. I’ve hit 260 yds with this driver I love it and It is just as accurate as anything I’ve ever hit. It’s expensive but I’d recommend it to anyone who is willing to pay the price. I also recommend it with proV1s or taylormade rocketballz. Rocketballz are longer but proV1s are more accurate.

      Bought a second hand Black Rage (White one) for $100.00 US and have found it to be a lot easier to hit than my old driver. I am more accurate and getting good distance, (average 240 meters) easy swing. A very forgiving club, plus it’s the 1st club I’ve owned with what seems to be a stiff shaft?

      Played in a Charity golf tournament today.Krank was there pushing the clubs.My son and I bought some raffle tickets for $20.00 each,which we were told went to the charity and if we won we would get a custom built Driver of our choice.Well we won.My son called the representative and inquired how to go about getting fitted for the club.The rep said that he had not sold enough tickets and we could buy a driver for $200.00 or get a hybrid.This is completely unacceptable and NOT WHAT WE WERE TOLD.Watch out for Krank,as we had an agreement with them and they did not fulfill their end of the deal.We have witnesses who heard the whole pitch and are fully aware of our dilema.Not sure where we will take this,however this is a warning to all golfers.Watch out for Krank.

      If Krank really wanted to sell these in volume they would start having demo days. I can’t find a demo-day in Michigan and I will NEVER drop that kind of money without trying the club first. I wish Krank would get serious about the retail market or get out of it and stick with only the long-drive circuit. They could use someone with a marketing background to teach them about reaching out to the masses..

      Jack, You are correct as Demos need to be available for golfers all over, and Demo Days through stores have been the only way to get these volume sales you speak of. We have done demos days of our own and have never sold that many as we do when we were in shops locally. But, alas that is changing, as were not in stores now with the Golf Channel publicity and showings of our company logo, we have grown 10fold already this month. So, you shall expect to see Krank Golf in stores next year. Thank you….

      I agree with those who want to test the product before buying it. I would never buy any expensive item (bike, car, motorcycle, etc) without trying it first. This is a large amount of money to spend on one club. I always test clubs at the local golf equipment dealers where I can hit them on the range before I decide if I want them. The hype about Krank driivers sounds great, but I won’t spend that amount of money without trying the club first.

      I know you said this, but having a shaft that fits you can add 20 yards, so this test wasn’t fair at all. You need to put your gamer shaft in this head and see what happens, if you really want to put these heads to the test. It could well be 15 yards outside your current driver and very accurate, which would make it the best head out there.

It was delivered in March this year. I am still waiting for the weights and the tool and the instructions to adjust the driver. I have written to Krank on 10 separate occasions and been promised delivery of the weights twice but NOTHING. What a Company, what a waste of money what a dreadful experience to date. I cannot get satisfaction and would advise anyone considering dealing with Krank to think carefully before handing over your dollars. Bill Spence England

      Driver works fine but the weight kits have not been shipped as yet. All they ever say is 2 more weeks. They should tell their customers what is going on, rather than just waiting for the complaints to come in. Most customers will understand that things can go wrong but poor communication is inexcusable.

      Review of the Element

      I received the Element last week and yesterday was the first time that I took it to the range. I will tell you that I have never felt so powerful with a driver. What surprised me about this driver is how accurate and straight it is. I felt like a celebrity as I noticed the people around me watching. I was hitting farther as I expected but the roll I was getting from the power was a pleasant surprise. This club is for real and I cannot wait to hit it again. The staff at Krank has been great to work with. The Element was worth the wait for me. Highly recommend.

      Nice write up on the Krank Driver. It most likely is a very good product and I am sure it is great for some, and as I have read above not well liked by others. Having been in the Industry for a long time I find most all quality Drivers to be right on the edge, and most of them have the sound thing down to a science, so you then have appearance left. A club has to look good to your eye, but even an ugly club can look better after a couple of amazing hits.

      When a person hits a club and it works really good, why is that? Length and accuracy is more than what the manufacturer makes into the clubhead, it is matching that to a shaft that fits the players swing. Even the grip is important. You can take a great club out of my hands and put it in your hands and it is a totally different club.

      I am sure the Krank is a great head, but it must be matched with the other components for you, it not you are unhappy with it. No manufacturer can guaranty that, If it doesn’t work then you have to work other combinations till you find “THE ONE”, and with todays high cost shafts, it can be expensive.

      Good Luck Krank, hope your RAGE is a raging success.

I have tried em all and that shaft always seems to work for everybody. Excalibur by Robin Arthur is also a great priced quality shaft.

      First of all great write up! Second I think that all golfers would benefit from trying some of these “long drive” clubs. I have been hitting an original Krank Rage since 2010 and in December ordered the Krank Element and am anxiously awaiting it’s arrival. Before that I played a driver from SMT for 4 years and when putting these head to head with the OEM’s I’ve never felt that I sacrificed ANYTHING by playing the “long drive” clubs. Accuracy, ball flight, distance I feel are all superb and I can’t wait for the element to get here!

      I had never heard of Krank until I became photographer for the UK LD (indoor) championships where a lot of the competitors had one. At the last event one of the guys let my 15 year old son have a go with his Krank (6 degree 50inch and x stiff) and he striped it 270yd straight down the middle (he is 4hc) and couldn’t believe how good it felt. I wouldn’t mind one of those dad was his opinion which shows how good he felt it was for a very brand aware teenager to want it.

      I actually have the Black Rage…ordered late June last year, but I did so incorrectly! I am in Phoenix, so it wasn’t much trouble to swap it out…I had accidently ordered the 10.5 ‘A’ shaft when I wanted Firm…so I go to the shop in Tempe…couple of guys there…cannot actually remember the names…but they were happy to swap it out…problem was, they didn’t have the non tour shaft in firm at that moment..so they ‘upgraded’ me to the tour shaft, no charge. Now, I’m 5’9/170/51y.o…swing speed unknown. You tell me. I carry about 240 with my best (normally closer to 220-225 on good strikes) and on fast conditions, can get it out to 280+ now and again. So, maybe 95MPH? I have to admit I didn’t get it airborne well at all at first…loved the rollout however. I actually made one small adjustment of moving the ball forward a touch so as to catch it a tad more on the upswing than I used to and it flies quite nicely. Straightest I have hit for sure, from Cobras/Pings/Adams/Alpha, none is more accurate. I probably should go back and make sure I’ve the best shaft for my swing yet, if it ain’t broke…pretty sure the tour shaft is not my best fit, but I do enjoy the lower ball flight overall. Maybe they’ll see my post and bring me in to check it out!
      I can agree with our tester that you feel the mishits for sure, but nothing overly harsh..simply solid, useful feedback…and the face marks very well with a ballstrike…easily seeing where you’ve struck it, confirming that feel. The red on top with the head helps confidence at setup, IMO. I sure get a LOT of players asking me about it since I often go solo to play..not sure if I ever made a conversion, but a couple big hitters I played with absolutely loved it…one guy, swear to you, wanted to give me 350 on the spot just this past month…he ballooned his R11 quite nastily at times and hit four consective rockets with this one. If you see me with it on a course in the PHX area, ask to try it out…everyone seems to enjoy the conversation about it, if not the performance itself.

      The white driver is pretty sexy. Drivers are all pretty good. If you swing it well and get the right shaft, the difference in performance between an R11, G15, R11s, RBZ, Speedline, Krank, whatever is going to be negligible to average golfers.
      That being said… If I had the funds… I’d probably bag the white Krank just on looks alone.
      I’m currently playing with a G15 with a shaft that I bought when I had a big ego… So it’s waaay too stiff for me. And too heavy. I’m rambling. It’s late. Thanks for the review of the driver. Very cool.

      Brought a 7.50 degree rage Sept 2011. I love it, definately goes further as it runs out more than anything I have ever hit before. My swing speed is only 100mph but I can hit high. I have ordered the Element now and cannot wait for it to come. Ring them up at Krank and Sam or Tanner or Vince will fit you out over the phone. It beats the Hell out of any “Branded” driver I ever owned. Plus I have the White head with red strips down the side. Looks great. Hopefully the Element will be even better and stop the ageing process.

      I took a gamble and bought a Geek head about a year ago and now I am hooked. I have 3 now. I understand how some of you are hesitant to buy before you try but I think as long as you do your research, talk to each company, and are honest with your own abilities, let me say that again, HONEST WITH YOUR OWN ABILITIES, you can find some great products from component companies. Krank is a great product that will work as well or better than most OEM drivers for most golfers. I did not go with the Krank driver mostly based on price. When I did call them they were great to deal with and very helpful. If you are in Missouri, I know the Wolf Hollow Golf Course in Labadie has some demo clubs there if you want to try it.

      I have never seen a krank in Canada with any of the golfers I have met. Would love to try but the last component irons i bought didn’t have demos and despite reviews didn’t work for me. As most know the resale on non oem clubs is pennies on the dollar.
      I ate a huge loss.
      Never again will I buy anything I can’t physically try on some fashion.
      Greatly intrigued by this article.

      Problem w a club like this one is that most people can’t go out to a typical golf galaxy and test it along side other clubs being considered. I’m def not going to buy a club over the Internet that I can’t return for a refund if I don’t like it. It’s a shame, bc I’m betting its a pretty good club.

      I would NOT endorse buying a KRANK Driver – Their return policy is not buyer friendly – If you hit it; just once; you CANNOT get your money back – they will not refund your money on drivers that have been struck. Stupid policy – how else would you find out if you like or can even hit the club if you can’t hit it?? I purchased a Krank last year and found out the hard way and had to eat $300+
      STUPID, STUPID Policy and tells you should be really SURE you want that club; because you are going to keep it regardless if you can use it or not.
      Couldn’t get a REAL person at their customer service line to speak to OR anyone to refund my money via email / customer service contact address.

      Clay, This is Vince at Krank Golf, I see your order was purchased back in Jan of 2012, when did you start having issues with it? IF you were to read our policy on our site that states exactly our warranty and return policy http://www.krankgolf.com/terms-of-sale/ you would see that is states, hit products are not allowed to be fully refunded, BUT we do offer a one year warranty on ANY parts needed to allow better performance. Now, that being said, IF you have an issue with the club, get a hold of us and let us know so we can better optimize the club for you. That easy, as for not speaking to a person, we are here Monday to Friday 9am-5pm MST in AZ. How did you get a hold of us by sending emails to which address? So I can see which emails we did not get back to you on. As for our so called, “STUPID POLICY”, i think that shows we are willing to stand behind our product better than a company that is having stores salesman sell you a club and say, Eh if you don’t like it we don’t care, just give it back to us and we will let you trade it in for some shoes or golf balls or clothing!! Give me a break!! Talk about NOT standing behind your product. Just like a golfer cant guarantee their swing, no one can guarantee club. BUT we will do WHATEVER we can to make sure it performs for you. PLEASE PLEASE give me a call PERSONALLY….email me NOW so we can get this taken care of and I will go out of our policy date to make sure YOU have a driver that you can hit. Thanks Vince…[email protected]

      I stand behind my comments – every other club maker I’ve ever ordered or demoed both online or in a golf shop has allowed me to return a club I didn’t like or couldn’t hit. Virtually all have a playability guarantee or return policies that allow you to actually hit / play with their club. The current brand I play now allowed me to buy it, try it and if I don’t like it, return it. Which I did and was able to get my money back.
      Krank’s return policy is very clear – you hit it, its yours. Your policy states simply that it will not accept returns on any club that has been hit. How would you know you like or can even hit the club without making contact with it? That’s my biggest criticism of their product quality guarantees. I made a mistake in the first place in not checking out their policies and I had to live with the cost of not reading the fine print.

      Dude, I gotta ask, and Im not being funny, how many clubs have you purchased/ordered in the past that you returned?

      I mean, I don’t own a Krank, though I did read their policy & also Vince’s reply & Dude, I don’t think that you’re gonna, strike that, I know that you’re not gonna have Vince’s counterpart at one of the other larger OEMs reach out to you in such a manner.

      I purchased a krank driver and 3 wood. I have had issues with both of them at first, but the team at krank allowed me to return the clubs multiple times to make them right. It’s very hard to find companies like Krank in the world today. I would like to personally thank the team at Krank for helping me out.

      I would personally like to thank Krank for all the hard work. I live here in Chandler, Az. I purchased a Krank driver with stiff shaft 10.5*, I used the club for 2 rounds and realized I ordered the wrong shaft and degree. All I did was call Krank and explain my problem, within the day I was picking up a different club from there shop. Clay sorry for your bad luck, but I happen to appreciate the “stupid policy”!

      Two days ago I received my 9 degree Element. I must say it is a fabulous looking stick. Have had around 15 holes with it an what was my normal left to right cut is now more of a slice. Of to our local pro this morning to see WTF is going on.
      I have to admit my “cut has been getting worse over the past 3 months or so and would say the Element is just enhancing my failing swing
      I have hit some good shots with the Element but as mentioned it looks so good I want to make it work.
      I’m hoping a pointer from someone who knows will be the bees knees.

      I have used Krank, SMT, Feel, and other less well known manufacturer clubs for years. In particular, they make some excellent drivers. It is worth remembering that those who compete in long drive championships are extremely demanding of performance in club heads (and all get their shafts custom fit for them). One of the key aspects in long drive heads is that they must not only be “long”, but they need to hold up to the beating that they take. All of these factors require manufacturers to pay considerable attention to both the metals that they use and how they engineer their design. Both Krank and SMT have excelled in this regard for several years(it is also what led to the “Exotics” line within Tour Edge). Any of these clubs may not necessarily be better for a given golfer than those produced by the more well known manufacturers, but they most certainly should not be dismissed without a try. Cudoos to the GolfSpy folks for including these clubs as well.

      It’s funny when a reviewer will not give the name of the gamer he is now playing or any of the specs he is using. If in fact he hit his gamer 4 or 5 yard further I would like to know what it is. You say MYGOLFSPY.COM does not get compensated from any of the large companies so why not just tell us all the clubs you are comparing the Krank with. Most long drive drivers come with x-long shafts ie 46-50 inches so that is another reason most of them will go farther. When testing any club you need to use the same ball, shaft, weather conditions to enable a fair comparision.

      Thomas, We are not just a Long Drive Driver Company, this is showing we make Golf Drivers as well. The length he hit was 46 inches, as Long Drive Drivers are ONLY 50 inches Vertical Measurements. This was a small review he did and the bigger Review with the rest of drivers is going on now and will show all specs and numbers I am sure after they are done with the Big review. Thanks Vince

      It’s also funny when some guy pops out of of nowhere and starts going on about things he knows nothing about. My games are well-documented in other places, however; as a general rule when I’m writing about one company’s clubs I try to be courteous and not promote others.

      But hey…good guys at Krank, I’m sure they’ll understand so…
      My driver is a 8*, Tour Issue, TaylorMade R11S, with an UST-Mamiya ProForce VTS Black 7SX. The other driver I was testing at the time is an 8.5 degree Adams Speedline Super LS with a Matrix “Black Tie” 8M3 in X-flex.

      The rest of it…we’ve been doing this quite a while now. We’re confident we know what it takes to test for comparison purposes.

      Clubheads do sound good. I recall a Krank golf promo where forum users gave new slogans for Krank, where one person would be chosen to win a new Element driver. Don’t know if anyone ever won though. May have been Hackers Paradise?
      Wish the price of the clubhead alone would have been listed. If it was, I missed it.
      Seems like they’d do better business if more aftermarket shafts were made available. Don’t have to be the latest $360 Diamana shaft or whatever. Just a solid shaft like the old Aldila NV would be something most players would be familiar with as far as how it plays, and reasonably priced.

      MattW, We can hand pick to ANY loft…I mean ANY loft here. Launch will also be played out by what shaft you go with, higher kick TOUR that was tested, or Standard Low kick shaft. The more we talk to you the better we can get you right the first time. I dont care HOW long we take, it will be done lol if not first time around, we keep on going. Bottom line, I would rather talk to customers than have a sales kid at a store SELLING….give us a call when you can:

      I’ve been getting emails from Krank, pimping “the Element”……very tempted. What loft did you hit? Did you hit it with the stock high launch shaft? How was the trajectory in relation to the loft of the club? See, these are the things that keep me from giving Krank a shot at the title. Most LD clubheads are either true to loft or play up to a degree under stated loft. For a cat who is only averaging 105 mph with the big stick, that would have me hitting their 12 degree…which is fine, but with most OEM’s 12 degrees will get you a whole lotta’ moonshots. I guess what I’m saying is that unless you can get fitted for a Krank driver, you’re taking a even bigger chance than with some OEM driver you buy off the rack. It’s one thing to buy a OEM 9.5 degree driver and find out it launches like a 11.5, but it would really cheese me off to buy a Krank 10 degree and see it never get more than 15 feet off the ground. At least with OEM’s familiarity provides a basis for comparison. I’m ready to try a Krank, Bang, Geek or SMT, but It’ll take some time to get used to clubs who’s real loft is what’s stamped on the side.

      I would love to try out the “Krank Rage Head” with my shaft. By looks of it, it can produce great distance yet I don’t know how much gain you may get from this driver. Currently the market is ever so saturated with driver with “adjustability”. Except for few companies (mizuno, tour edge, fourteen, miura, honma, etc), producing driver without adjustability is stepping backwards. That’s unless otherwise you come up with something extraordinary technology to enhance accuracy and distance produced. Then again, all that can come with perfectly executed swing with right shaft.

      sorry for the mumble but all I have to say is that I WOULD LOVE TO TRY THIS DRIVER!\
