MyGolfSpy Community Members Review Evnroll

If you’re a dedicated MyGolfSpy follower, you know we regularly ask for your help in testing and reviewing golf products.

Why? Because #PowerToThePlayer isn’t just a hashtag, it’s a mission. Everyone knows what the OEM’s think, and you know what we discover during testing too. But ultimately it’s what you think that determines whether or not a new piece of equipment goes into your bag. That’s why we often ask a collective you to test stuff and give us your honest assessment: Does the performance match the hype?

If you’ve been paying any attention at all, you know how impressed we are with Evnroll Putters. In head-to-head testing against MyGolfSpy’s 2016 Most Wanted Blade and Mallet putters, all four of the Evnroll models tested scored better than our own Most Wanted winners.

If you want to be the best, you gotta beat the best, and that’s precisely what Evnroll did.

That was our assessment. But what about what other golfers? Last November we asked for your help to complete the picture. We wanted real golfers in the real world to check our work: Does Evnroll’s groove technology improve your putting?

Six of you took up that challenge, and we want to share their findings with you today.

Evnroll 3

Meet The Testers

Six members of the MyGolfSpy Community Forum were chosen. We’ll use their Forum screen names here:

  • Fozcycle: 65-year-old recent retiree from Florida; 17 hcp; gamed PING Ketsch/Scotty Cameron Kombi; tested Evnroll ER6
  • RevKev: 60-year-old Pastor from Florida; 3.7 hcp; gamed Never Compromise Voodoo Daddy for past ten years; tested ER5
  • Hula_Rock: 46 from Texas; 5 hcp; gamed Tee McCabe TPA XVIII Tour Prototype; tested ER5
  • BGoergen: 34, South Dakota; 3 hcp; gamed Rife Legend Z; tested ER2
  • jlukes: 32, New Jersey; 5 hcp; gamed PING Anser/Odyssey #9; tested ER 2
  • Carolina Golfer 2: 57, Washington DC; 17 hcp; gamed Scotty X7M, tested ER5

Each tester personally spoke with Evnroll inventor Guerin Rife over the phone to ensure the best possible putter fit. Testers were then provided with a review template by MyGolfSpy to ensure a fair, honest and complete evaluation.

Here, in their words, are their stories.

First Impressions:

“The Evnroll ER6 (is) gorgeous…the shade of red definitely makes it show against the green grass. The white lines are the width of a golf ball, allowing one to use them easily when lining up a putt.”Fozcycle

“The ER5 has a more compact head than the VooDoo Daddy. It does also have a very different sound and feel. While some would find it disturbing, to me the sound is very much like the old PING Eye 2. What’s interesting is sometimes you get the ping, sometimes you don’t.”RevKev

“One word to describe my first impression? ‘ClassicModernSexyQualitySleekAmazingSolid.’ ”Hula_Rock

Evnroll 4

“It looks so clean and classy, nothing distracting, alignment aids are the perfect size and color. The head sets up nice and square.”BGoergen

“The weighting of the putter felt spot on, as it seemed to almost swing itself, especially on shorter putts. The additional weight also forced me to activate the larger muscles in my arms rather than the smaller twitch muscles – that led to less wrist-breaking through my stroke, and a more consistent stroke overall.”jlukes

“It’s smaller than the X7M head, and that was slightly bothersome at the beginning, although I’m becoming more comfortable with it. I do slightly favor the look and the way the X7M frames the ball at address for me.”Carolina Golfer 2

Performance:

“I noticed the roll was smooth on most putts, especially those over 8 feet.”Fozcycle

“The putter has performed like a champ. My regular playing companions have been extremely impressed by my ability to avoid three-putts since this putter has been in my bag. Performace grade is a straight A!”RevKev

“I have never, ever, ever bagged a brand new putter and adjusted to it just like that. It was the first time I put a new putter into play and had sub-30 putts per round.”Hula_Rock

Evnroll 2

“The technology present in the grooves produces such a true roll that the confidence you have standing over the ball completely changes your outlook on putting…I can’t tell you how many of the missed putts with the Evnroll were lip-outs. Every putt I hit had at least a shadow over the hole.”BGoergen

Value & Likelihood of Purchase:

“The purchase price of $359.00 is a bit steep for my pocket, but I would gather it somehow, as this is the best putter I have ever rolled.”Fozcycle

“When we closed our phone conversation Mr. Rife said he was hoping I would give his putter my blessing, a clear nod to my profession. I most certainly do!”RevKev

“Putts I thought were going to be way short ended up closer to the hole. Likelihood of purchase? 100% YES!”Hula_Rock

“I really didn’t think a putter could do anything for you. I thought a putter was all about what you like the feel of and the look of, and the rest was in your ability to make a good stroke and read greens. Boy was I wrong.”BGoergen

“In terms of performance, the putter exceeded my expectations in terms of how the technology delivered, but the weighting may not be for everyone…The ER2 will be staying in the bag for 2017 as I don’t see any reason to bag anything else.”jlukes

Overall Ratings & Final Thoughts

Our testers rated the Evnroll on three criteria: Performance (60 points), Looks and Feel (25 points) and Likelihood of Purchase (15 points). The ultimate question was simple; does the Evnroll make you a better putter?

They were told to be tough graders. A very good, solid putter should be graded accordingly with 75 out of a possible 100, while one that is exceptional should score around 85. Scores of 90 or above are reserved for only for products that truly stand out in all three categories.

With that said, our testers rated the EvnRoll just a touch below a 93. The lowest score given was a 90, the highest a 96.

Broken down by category, our testers gave the Evnroll, on average, a remarkable 57 out of a possible 60 points for Performance and 23 out of 25 for Look and Feel. For Likelihood of Purchase, the Evnroll – which sells for over $300.00 – scored a 12.7 out of a possible 15.

These tests aren’t nearly as statistically sound as those done at the MyGolfSpy Test Center, but they’re a great supplement to what we do in-house because they come from golfers just like you. No one review, blog or article can offer a definitive guarantee that a given product will work for you, but when you combine our work, the work of our Community Members and the work of other reviewers, you should be able to weed through the hype and determine for yourself if a product is a candidate for your dollars and your bag.

We encourage you to read the entire series of reviews for yourself on the MyGolfSpy Forum.

I’ve had my ER5 for just under a year now. Was one of the very first in the UK to be fitted. After a little practice and time to get used to how to use these putters as that should be, making all the science work its dropped 7 to 8 shots of my game. I very rarely take over 30 putts a round now. I love the sound of the ER5, although it’s not too everyone’s taste. The looks are awesome and the technology works, as long as you put a decent and consistent stroke on it. Practice and your be rewarded, making it value for money despite the £280 cost. The best golf purchase I’ve ever made.

I purchased the ER1 about 3 months ago. Am totally in love with this putter. Distance control on mishits is amazing, very forgiving, and puts the best roll on a golf ball compared to Amy other model. I used to average about 32-34 putts per round. In over 10 rounds, my putts have dropped to 28-30. I’ve had one 3-putt in my last 10 rounds and that was my fault not focusing on a 3 footer. My brother used it and he purchased one right away and put his Scotty Cameron in his garage. I don’t dread putting anymore!!! Great product!

I have tried many putters over the last 30 years, but have never seen a significant change in my putting until I purchased an ER6B. Friends I have played with for 25 years have commented on the improvement. My weight of putt has been spot on for several months.

I owned all the top brand putters and never considered putting to be the strength of my game. When I was getting a fitting at CoolClubs-Scottsdale by the founder he told me about Rife putters producing the best roll with grooves which were used with great success by many PGA Tour pros such as Ian Poulter and Matt Kuchar when they had their best years. I bought the Rife Barbados and it made a dramatic difference in my putting. I thought I had maximized my putting ability with the Rife putter until I purchased the Evnroll ER2. My putting has gone to another level I thought I could never achieve. The Rife putter produced a good roll, but the Evnroll added another dimension with the dispersion improvement on distance and accuracy with the new groove technology. My distance control has improved dramatically. For anyone who has studied putting, you will know that distance control is the most important aspect of putting. If you have poor distance control it doesn’t matter if you start the ball on the correct line, unless you have a dead straight putt, which is rare. I have more confidence and proven better results with the Evnroll putter than anything else I’ve ever tested. The results aren’t even close which is surprising given all the good equipment available. Putting which was the weakest part of my game has now become my strength.

Golf Digest 2017 Hotlist ranks Evnroll Er2 and Mallet putter as ”Silver” vs many many other putters being ”Gold”. While results are shown as a listing only ( comments to follow in the Feb Issue) what to think about what seems to be ”somewhat” different than the the review results from Myspy Golf testing?

They clearly didn’t pay GD for the Gold Medal sponsor package!! But a factor in GD’s ratings is the ambiguous “demand” it could be the best putter in the world, but it’s not a ping or a Scotty, therefore demand in ⬇️ and the medal only a silver as a result.

      Reply

Yes I was surprised by the silver rating… But when you read the testers comments you would think it would be one of the best putters and for sure a gold, so that really doesn’t make sense, I really don’t like their ratings at all because the comments from testers never make sense with the rating.. I bought the Evnroll 7 and love it, my stress of 3 putting is almost gone. I get the ball much closer on my putts…I’m Much more consistent…

For those complaining about the price, I got mine 20% off from pgasuperstore.com when they had their one day black friday (or maybe it was cyber monday) deal. I thought for sure Evnroll would be excluded like Titleist, PING, etc but I was wrong. Not sure if they will exclude it again next year but keep your eyes open and wait patiently. :-)

Have had an ER3 (wingback) for 30-45 days and love it. Looks, sound, feel, alignment and weight are all top notch. There’s definitely something to the groove technology. I’ve had Ping TR, Toulon, Scotty, and Bobby Grace (and countless others). All really good/well made putters. However, I could give you little reasons why they just weren’t quite right for me. This putter, for me, is the best combo of hitting my line and distance control. I don’t understand all the complaints about the price. It’s in line with the other higher end putters on the market today. The pricing has nothing to do with the effectiveness of the technology, which clearly works, based on the feedback of two different MGS evaluations.

Last year, I acquired 2 Bettinardi, 2 Odyssey, 1 Ping and 1 Toulon. I was able to spend significant amounts of time trying out each putter before purchase. I was, and remain, extremely interested in the ER1 and 2 models. Alas, I would have to travel down to Illinois to actually touch one. As an aside, does anyone know if the ER1 and 2 come in a non-counterbalanced configuration.

Yes. You can purchase an Evnroll putter in a non-counterbalance configuration. Contact Travis at Evnroll and he will make sure to provide you with an Evnroll putter setup just the way you like it. He made my Evnroll (no counterbalance) to my specs and I absolutely love my putter. Here’s his office number 760-448-6450

After your review, I decided to invest (again….bought a Carbon putter after your 2015 reviews) in the Evenroll ER2. While I liked the Carbon, I never felt completely comfortable with it. After talking to a friend who suggested that we had no problem buying a $400 driver that we might use 12 to 14 times a round and yet hesitated to spend less than that for a putter, I took the plunge and called Evenroll. I have had this putter now for at probably 12 rounds of golf and am thinking this may be the best golf investment (next to lessons) I have ever made. The putter felt absolutely wonderful when I first picked it up and still does. I have confidence that a 5 foot putt might as well be a 6 incher. I realize that putters are a personal thing, but for me this is the very best I have owned. In the past, I have used Ping, Scotty Cameron, etc but nothing has ever compared to this one. Truly a well built, solid and forgiving putter.

I’ve been playing the ER1 since last October – granted only in the basement since winter hit – but this thing is the real deal. I’ve tried a half dozen putters and this one puts the rest to shame. Practice does make perfect, but the ER1 gives you an edge that the others can’t match.

Due to your research and various testings of the Evnroll putters, and some personal contacts with the great folks at Evnroll headquarters in California, I am currently awaiting delivery of my left-handed ER2, very carefully fitted to my specifications. The various links to Guerin himself explaining, demonstrating and fitting his clubs to individuals, along with your work, tipped the scales for me. I fully expect to never have to buy another putter. Keep up the great work and thanks!!!

I spent an hour with the Evnroll and I was very disappointed. I drove an hour to Orlando just to try the putter. I did see the gear effect on a few putts but I the putter alignment was very poor and I tried several other putters and I really liked a couple of Scotty Cameron putters the best. I used an Odyssey putter and have used one of theirs for years but the Cameron was the most consistent and I nearly purchased one but my 1 yr old Odyssey is still a great putter. The Evnroll in my opinion needs to have better alignment markings like Odysseys. One of the store employees stated he didn’t like the Evnrolls either.

I guess I’m in the minority. I did not like Evnroll putters for two reasons:

      1. That sound. I have sensitive ears I guess. The sound killed me on every putt.

      2. Maybe it was the sound playing with ears, but some of the putts seemed to just take off off the face. For that reason I felt very uncomfortable with the putter.

I tested th er2 and er6. Loves the look but it didn’t perform for me. FWIW, my two cents.

Gents—putting is 40% of the game. I have gamed this putter since last summer and it is the real deal….technology + quality = performance value. Consider investing in these putters and the ROI for years will be fewer putts, lower scores and more enjoyment! Be sure to check out the new 2017 releases…works-of-arts!

      We only use a $400-$500 driver 14 times/round….a putter 18+ times.

Well, it’s not. Rife has been doing the grooved face way before PING, and these grooves are supposedly refined beyond that.

100% false. Not even CLOSE to the same technology. The way the Evnroll putter works is that as you get toward the center of the face, the grooves get thinner. This reduces the surface area that the ball can contact. This in effect makes putts that strike farther out travel the same distance as putts that would have been centered.

That is incorrect. Ping putter grooves were variable depth where Rife’s EVNRoll putters have variable width. There is a difference……BTW, I have both a Ping Ketsch and an EVNRoll E6 mallet. I choose the EVNRoll!

No putter is worth 2/3 hundred dollars which only cost 50 dollars to make and hype cannot be 250 dollars worth.
You cannot buy good putting just get a putter of which you like the look and feel and then practice / practice /practice until you groove a good stroke. Groves, sound, cost, and reviews mean nothing. THE BEST PUTTERS IN THE WORLD COULD USE VITALLY ANY PUTTER WITH GREAT RESULTS.

Strong opinion, and wrong. Performance is limited by inefficiency. Do you want ultimate performance? Not saying this is the ultimate performer, but that’s what the BEST want.
