MyGolfSpy – Launches “Iron Comparison Tool”

Now Available! – Compare Irons Head-To-Head

At the end of April we announced the release…of our Club Comparison Tool. And it has quickly become one of the most visited pages on MyGolfSpy.  Because we’re of the belief that something is better than nothing, we went live with the driver comparison tool only, but did so with the promise that we’d have the Iron Comparison Tool available for you very soon.  Well…it took just over a month, but soon has finally morphed into today.

How It Works

We’ve tried to keep the iron tool consistent with the driver tool, so it should look familiar to you. As we did with the driver tool, we’ve given you two tabs, and a ton of sorting capability.

♦♦ The “Iron Scoring” Tab – shows you the MyGolfSpy scoring breakdown (both performance and subjective) for each iron we’ve tested under the new system.

♦♦ The “Launch Monitor Averages” Tab – tab shows you how close our testers came to the target (the hole) with each the long, middle, and short irons from each test. We also provide useful details like ball speed, launch angle, and spin rates.

♦♦ Just like with the Driver Comparison tool, everything is sortable, and can be filtered to show only those irons you’re interested in.

These tools are still in their infancy, but we will be updating them constantly (with every new review) and eventually adding new tools for fairway woods, hybrids, and even putters. Who knows…we might add tools for training aids, GPS & Rangefinders, and whatever else we think will help you make a more informed buying decision.

NOTE – we have created a link at the top of the site labeled “Compare Clubs” so you can view this information at anytime.

We haven’t requested irons from TaylorMade in quite some time. We’ll see what the fall offerings look like, or perhaps we’ll wait for the spring, but at some point we will put in a request with TaylorMade.

I had the Ci7s and liked them a lot. They were strong lofted with no offset and very easy to hit. Then I went on the advisory Staff and had the 62s, great blades and easy to hit, quality stuff. My current irons are the FG V2s and these are probably the best Irons I have ever owned, they hit solid, high, and straight. I combined them with the KBS shafts and they are great also. Kevin did a great job on them.

I played Wilson in the old days and it is good to have them back in a beautiful Red/White bag again. Very nice and great looking. And compared to the big 3 they are priced very good.

Guys this is very helpful. One suggestion. Could you also put a link to your reviews of the clubs as well in the chart so they are easy to access? Thanks.

The software is a little quirky, but when you hover over any of the scores, points, launch numbers, etc, you’ll get a little pop-up that has a link to the review.

Thanks again for putting this together. The MP59s are definitely a great club, but I’ll have to try out the Wilsons too before I pull the trigger (next year).

Also, a minor bug I found: if you switch tabs from “Iron Scoring” to “Launch Monitor Averages”, all the checkboxes you selected/unselected get reset.

Wow-Wilson Staff #1-Really! As a Wilson Staff member for many years in the 70’s and 80’s, it does my heart good that Wilson is getting back on top.

Mike, you were there in their hey-day…I grew up on the Dynapower & there has been no better MB than the FG17s, and I’ve played the Mizuno MPs for 26+ years, though my memories of the 17s were that of an incredible iron…Have a good season..Fairways & Greens 4ever….

For years I played custom Irons designed for Dale Douglass. IMHO it is the best looking and playing iron I ever used. I picked up a mint set of Wilson Staff Ken Venturi SG-202 on Ebay earlier this year. Since I am an old fart(65), I will reshaft them to something I can use, Fairways & Greens to you!

Mike, that’s great on the Venturi’s….I got lucky & got a set of the 64s(Orlimar PG-64) which had the TT DG S400(I play the Tour Issue S400s) in them back in ’03….They are beautiful clubs….Hit em well this season…..Faitway & Greens 4ever…..
