THE PIMP LIST
Do you remember #ThePimpList?
Back in 2014, we wanted to see what would happen when some of the best wedge designers and artisans in the wedge game were given free rein to create. The goal behind the creation of #ThePimpList was to showcase unique and creative approaches to wedge aesthetics. To get there, we challenged the industry’s craftsman to make all of our jaws drop.
Over 20 wedges were submitted from golf companies all over the world. But what the team at Cobra Golf produced was the absolute biggest surprise of the #ThePimpList.
Let’s start with the biggest jaw-dropper: The Damascus Wedge.
Cobra believed that Damascus Steel would give their wedge a unique look. For those who don’t know, Damascus Steel is created by stacking and folding layers of steel during the forging process. The resulting patterns are unique to each piece. It’s not unusual for Damascus Steel to be made up of hundreds, even thousands of layers.
Creating quality Damascus Steel is a time-consuming process, but Cobra felt that, if machined correctly, the grain pattern would present a very cool design element. We’re inclined to agree.
You may have seen a Damascus wedge since, but back in 2014, this was the first Damascus wedge we had ever seen.
NOTE: While making the wedge the hosel snapped. The Cobra team welded it back together leaving the distinctive scar that interrupts the Damascus pattern.

The Raw Weld wedge as we called it is a 100% milled creation. So much of the detail on this wedge was done by hand, and despite being true to the raw concept, there is a tremendous amount of detail in this wedge. It too, is exotic.
The weld created an eye-catching blend of colors and texture and color. It also presented an interesting feel to the treatment of the steel.
Back in 2014, a few wedges with spot welds had popped up on the PGA Tour. Cobra was inspired by the design element and wanted to take it to the next level with the Raw Weld wedge.
In keeping with the “raw” theme, Cobra added a completely blank/raw grip, similar to a racing tire rubber.
It was one of the first 100% Milled wedges produced.
Cobra doesn’t have a name like Bob Vokey or Roger Cleveland behind its wedge franchise, and new MIM’d designs aside, it mostly keeps things simple. The wedges they submitted for #ThePimpList, however, were anything but ordinary. We had never seen anything like them. Our jaws dropped.
