Quick Hits – Orlimar V18 Driver

This is the first installment of what will quickly become a recurring segment on our YouTube Channel. In this first episode of Quick Hits, our Sam Robinson shares his initial impressions of the new Orlimar V18 Driver.

That’s right, the Orlimar brand is back!

I liked their product back in the day! That’s one of many reasons I don’t like Cally and will never play or wear their products…

Back in the day I use to rotate Orlimar Tri-Metals(distance) with Tight Lies (accuracy) and/or Warbirds (distance + accuracy}. good memories. Hope these new versions are quality with good price point.

Whats in a name, Ping Callaway Taylormade make great clubs but when a driver starting price is $400 they should be a great club . Orlimar once made a great fairway wood ( once ) the trick is to make a great driver that’s less then two hundred bucks

If you know your clubs, you can find unused older heads and top quality shafts on Ebay for very low prices. Putting them together is pretty simple. Or you could pay a repair/custom fitting shop to put them together for very little.

With R & D cost and the costs of shafts, how so you expect to bring to market a driver for less than a deuce? Enlighten me.

Orlimar the brand name was bought by King Par years ago. King Par was a huge retailer in Flint that sold Knight clubs and Intec balls as well. When King Par went under, like so many businesses in Flint, all of King Pars brand names were bought by Hireko. Hireko has accumulated many brand names overr the years including Dynacraft and Powerbilt. But these are just names they’ve bought with maybe some tech. Hireko makes nice affordable grips and irons, but I’d be very cautious buying their woods. I had two woods I bought from them and the faces caved in during my first range session.

Interesting concept on the weighting. Is Jessie Ortiz revitalizing Orlimar. A good nickname could be “Dial your shape of the day”.

Still have my Orlimar clubs with Penley shafts. Actually just brought them out recently since the weather has been warmer. Great combo, glad to see them back, maybe Orlimar and penley will get together and make clubs again – can’t wait to try the new ones out!

I still use Orlimar #3 and #4 Tri Metal. Tried all the newer fairway clubs but never found better.

Thanks for the video, great stuff. You would have to pry my G400 Max from my cold dead hands before I changed drivers, unless of course, Ping had something newer.

I played the Orlimar Tri-Metals back in high school and they were great fairway woods (metals). I just googled this driver and their price point is up there with the top brands…not sure they will get a very big piece of the market without coming in at a lower price point.

looks like they stole the idea from the Wilson Triton, which is one hell of a Driver. I have nothing as long and consistent as the Triton which for some reason went over like a lead balloon. Loud as hell if not hit on the sweetspot, but on the SS it sounds like what it is, a gun going off.

I have several orlimar clubs with maraging steel faces and they are great. Most of my clubs have maraging steel faces. They out distance titanium. I am older and orlimar helps along with maraging steel.

That sound he never heard before sounds just like when you bang a ball against the bottom of my Wilson Triton driver…also with the bottom plate you can remove….

I remember having an Orlimar Fairway wood in the 90s and I swear it was the best fairway wood i ever owned.

I guess it is the same deal as Lynx
Someone just bought the brand and there is nothing really connecting the new owners to the original

      Anyone confirm?

I agree. I still carry a maraging steel faced 12 degree and a 17 degree fairway metal. Still the best I have ever used!

The Trimetals were amazing back in the day. Every time I let someone hit mine they went looking for one.

Yawn…another driver I’ll never see in any shop I frequent. Not the best but not the worst? I already have a couple of those. Another gimmick for adjustment? Still no better than the old SuperQuad which is what 10-12 years old?

No he is not. Last I read he works for Bobby Jones. Taylor Made destroyed the original company through litigation. It’s one reason why I’ll never buy TMag.
Some people from Australia I believe just bought the name a few years out.

Adidas sold off the TaylorMade brand. So they’re no longer TMaG.

Actually it was Ely Callaway who destroyed Orlimar through litigation. In the late 1990s Orlimar had an IPO. Funding by investors was dependent on the success of the IPO. A few days before the IPO Ely Callaway filed a frivolous lawsuit in order to kill Orlimar even though Callaway was WAY bigger. Unfortunately,he succeeded.

Wow! Loved my Trimetal Strong 3 back in the day, it was LONG just not as forgiving as today’s clubs! Glad to see them making a comeback. I’ll definitely test it out somewhere.
