REVIEW: 2019 SRIXON Z STAR and Z STAR XV GOLF BALL (PROTOTYPE)

TIP: If you want to break in to the golf ball industry, step 1 is to send blank white boxes to the media.

A fresh white box of prototype Srixon golf balls just arrived to the MyGolfSpy Test Facility. For those that don’t know, blank white golf ball boxes are a thing in the industry. Generally what it meant in the past was that you were selected as a prototype ball tester for Titleist.

FACT: Most golfers like Titleist golf balls. All golfers love blank white prototype Titleist golf balls.

It seems some other golf ball companies have caught on.

2019 SRIXON “PROTOTYPE” BALLS

Srixon sent MyGolfSpy a few sleeves of their prototype Z Stars for next year. The only logical conclusion? Put them to the test, of course! Today we look at the numbers from the new Srixon Z Star and Z Star XV while also comparing their stats to the renowned Titleist Pro-V1.

How often should the ball( a premium ball like the Z Star or Prov1) be replaced with a new one, providing there’s no scuffs on it or obvious damage. Every round or every two rounds. Does the balls performance degrade after so many hits, what actually degrades, distance or dispersion or spin??

If not palpably scuffed, play it until you lose it. No loss of performance unless it has sat in the sun or in water a long time.

Why don’t you guys test the ball for balance because I tried it. I played much better if my ball is balanced. Specially on putting. Thanks

Good test! I just wish the new Pro V1 and Pro V1x were used instead of the outgoing ball.

I made my own comparison of Z star and Pro V.
Your results were right on. In the wind Z Star has the advantage.
Price and comes in yellow are my key features.

Thanks for sharing! I’m a z-star player and I’m excited about the 2019 version. I’ve been stalking this website and others waiting for any sort of press release. In this research I found this…
      https://golf.dunlop.co.jp/srixon/zstar2019/index.html

Thanks to google translate I learned that 2019 version has a new substance called SeRM. It’s supposed to keep the ball whiter longer and keep it from scuffing.

I am one of your Senior citizen golfers with a slow swing speed. I play golf balls like the Srizon Q Star Tour and the Taylor Made Project (a). While I appreciate most of your audience is young and all seem to swing 100mph or more, there are a few of us left who would like ball results for balls slower swingers might use. The same goes for clubs. Most of us Seniors have money to spend and are willing to part with it when we see published results. But most of us are not going to rush right out and buy all the equipment and balls you are recommending for the audience you are directing the majority of your reviews for. So, thanks, in advance, for more consideration for average swingers.

Apparently you didn’t watch the whole video, as they talk about Driver swing speeds of 115mph, 100mph and 85mph (and their comparable 7-iron and Wedge shots).
I thought this was one of the most useful video’s I’ve seen yet.
      Well done Gents!

Lou and PJ – at 9.01 they show the 7 iron results which are clearly a mistake as the distances for 85mph are over 300 yds – any ball!
Now I understand what Jack Nicklaus means by “it’s the ball!”

PJ, Lou isn’t looking for a pro ball at slower swing speeds, he is looking for the amateur ball at slower swing speeds. Most people with slower swing speeds shouldn’t be playing the pro balls. They aren’t made for those players.

I do not believe their is a bad ball for the average golfer today! Low handicappers know what they like and can tell the difference which in my opinion is slight! I have played to single digit but not now. I shoot about the same score no matter what ball I put into play. Although I must admit I love the pro line balls for the short game!

I would like to see the XV compression come down on its next iteration. The compression was something like 105 I believe, which feels like hitting a rock. No excuse for being harder than the pro-V1x. Great ball, I just couldn’t get on board with the feel. Also I’m 105-110 SS, so probably on the lower spectrum for actually compressing that ball.

Very good comparison. I am a 100 mph swinger and I love the z-star. Your data backed up my choice. BTW, the 85 mph 7 iron data displayed is incorrect. It has driver data instead.

Our customers who use Z star balls continually inform us that the cover on the the Z star ball which is thinner than the Pro V 1 ball does not cut as easy.which gives extra longevity.

This is the exact reason I switched to the Z from a ProV. 1st time I went out for a round with a Z I really never paid attention to the ball until I got done. I couldn’t believe how well it held up. It almost looked like I just pulled a brand new ball out of the sleeve. The ProV’s would be shredded after 18.

I would much rather see a test of golf balls ( or any golf equipment), that ARE NOT supplied by the manufacturers. Consumer reports tests all products including automobiles by purchasing them, not provided by the manufacture.

Love what you guys do, but as more and more popular you become read: Consumer influence. you should take that into consideration to remove all doubt.

Do you think the Bridgestone tour ball picked up in the neighborhood shop is the same ball Tiger is using? Not a chance.

      Thats my point

You plan on donating to the cause? Seems awful ridiculous to suggest something like that if you aren’t willing to throw your own money in for the type of testing you want.

Are you sure that the balls aren’t the same as those in store? I can tell you that when Kucher played in Australia recently his late change of ball meant that the players pack sent from the US had the XS and not the X balls in it. The balls he used while in Australia came off the shelf from one of the local stores.

I think your 7 iron data for the 85 mph swing speed is a bit off. I seriously doubt there hitting the ball 307 total distance. I like to see these tests thanks.

I believe the ‘magic’ white boxes nowadays don’t indicate which model of ball it is. Only ‘prototype’, so players don’t have pre-conceived opinions before testing.
