The TOP 10 Golf Strategy Mistakes – (FREE E-Book)

Ben Hogan said, “This is a game of misses. The guy who misses the best is going to win.” To that end, golf is a game of mistakes, both physical and mental, and sometimes the path to shooting lower scores is finding a way to miss better and hopefully less often.

With that, Shot Scope, a performance tracking and analytics company, gleaned its database of 30+ million shots, consolidated the information and generated a list of  The Top Ten Strategy Mistakes you’re probably making (and what you can do to remedy the situation).

FOR EXAMPLE:

  • Why letting your 3-wood sit in the corner and gather dust might not be a bad idea.
  • Why carrying your clubs might be hurting your score.
  • Why you don’t get putts to the hole as often as you should.
  • Why golfers miss most greens short and to the right of the target.

In case you missed it, Shot Scope’s first FREE E-Book, “The Ultimate Golfer’s Guide.” provides a series of anecdotes and helpful tips in four key performance areas: Tee Shots, Approaches, Short Game and Putting.

All of Shot Scope’s user data comes from shots recorded on the V2 platform which hit the market mid-2017 and continues to be one of the best golf analytics packages available.

Now the question is how mainstream can performance tracking become in 2020?

I use a 5 wood set to 17* loft , I hit the ball high, longer and straighter then a 3 wood if not set one a tee.//I do carry three woods 5 (190),…7 (180) and 9 (165) carry distance This short knocker will play anyone for a $20 Nassau because I know my distance each one of my clubs carry ( not roll out ) and when in doubt go up a club.

      1) An over whelming amount of golfers would hit a far better, both in distance and accuracy with a 4 or 5 wood off the fairway and rough.

      2) Next anyone reading this who answers the following question “how far do you hit your 7 iron” with a numerical yardage like 150 yards or 170 yards etc. is all wrong the correct answer is how far do you want me hit it. If you want to get good, if you want to aspire to break 80, you need to be thinking shot shape and distance….not just pure distance. Distance with your 7 iron should be should have a range of 25 yards plus/minus dependent on shot shape and carry.
If you can’t back off a 7 iron or step on a 7 iron, changing the ball flight, carry, total distance and roll out….You need to know this with all clubs, otherwise it will be a while before you get better.

      3) if you generally hit your 7 iron or pitching wedge the best, stop hitting it on the range. Hit that 3 hybrid or 5 iron instead for those are tougher to be consistent and can impact your round the most.

I’ve used Shotscope for the last two seasons. Great product. Not perfect, but really good and easy to use. Having my stats has definitely changed how I play and helped to lower my scores. At $139 now it’s worth it just as a GPS watch!

Stephen, does the Shotscope work on the driving range? Could I get the distance of the shot I hit on the range or only while playing on the course? Thanks

Peter, Shotscope is GPS based and uses tags screwed into your club grips to track your location. It collects the location of your shots and calculates the distances between each shot to get your yardage. It would not work on the range as there would be no proceeding shot from which to calculate the yardage.

To get approximate distances on the range you would need something like a laser rangefinder to shoot the yardage flags, or a Swing Caddie.

      Let me tee off here…

1: Just quit hitting it off the deck. Hardest stock shot in golf.
2: Pushcarts are better, Caddies are the best.
      3. You don’t read enough break and you’re more concerned with not three putting than you are with making the 15’ for birdie.
4: You don’t know how far you hit any iron on the course because you’ve probably gotten your numbers inside or on the range and your sample size was too small, and most right handed golfers miss right, and almost all recreational golfers under club.

Good points, esp #’s 1 & 4. I’ve virtually stopped hitting my 3W off the deck & go w/ a 3H. Minimal (if any) distance loss & much better dispersion. I like #’s, so 10 years ago I manually tracked my approach shots. 80% missed short (between 8 & 4 o’clock) so I learned to ‘club up’ unless there’s extreme danger behind the green or a very ‘back’ pin placement.
