Spy Pic – PXG 0811XF Driver

PXG’s 0811XF Driver has been deemed conforming by the USGA.

Versions of the next PXG driver have been in circulation on the PGA and LPGA Tours for the better part of a year, but it appears that PXG is finally close to officially bringing its second driver to the masses…or at least to its customer base.

The 0811XF name is telling for two reasons:

  • The disappearance of Darkness from the product name on the USGA list suggests PXG has exited the prototyping phase. If you weren’t aware, PXG routinely uses Darkness to designate prototypes, but to date, not a final product.
  • Assuming the XF name means what it means in the iron line, we can expect XF to be more forgiving than the 0811, and hopefully insanely long like the XF irons. The placement of PXG’s signature weights certainly suggests back CG/high MOI, and a draw bias option.

0811XF-DRIVER

No word yet on release date or retail cost, but given PXG’s pricing consistency, it’s reasonable to expect that 0811XF will be at least $750.

More details as we get them.

Parsons saw a market. Same market that buys JDM. ME. His clubs are nothing short of great. Worth the money? Maybe not. If one can afford it then go for it. I’m on my forth set of irons, 3rd driver and 2nd FW. Now actually have the milled wedges , 3 of them. I can afford it so I’m happy. If you can’t afford it it’s not worth going into hock

$$$ is all relative. How much is it worth to you? Truth be told if you play 100 rounds a year, (which I understand is a lot), 4$ more for my greens fees doesn’t seem like much. The real question is can you make use of the technology in these clubs developed by PXG. My Callaway driver has what 60 or 100 different combinations including lie & loft, draw fad and neutral settings etc.etc. But if I asked you if you would give me 5$ before each round I could l limit your driver dispersion by 10% you’d line up. Or simply if I told you your driver would be slightly more predictable and allow you to shave off 3-5 strokes a round, again you would line up.

If Parsons thinks he is going to have a captive audience at this price point $$$ (the upper 1%) he is sadly mistaken, their more interested in a set of Bentley’s $$$$$$. I’m sure PXG will stimulate interest in The First Tee

THOMAS i used to be a skeptic like you. All I’m saying is just try them. I did and have found these to be the most forgiving club ever and i tried every major brand within the last year and no one came close to the forgiveness. Not only that they are the longest clubs on the market. The only one that gave PXG a run for the money with distance was Callaway. Don’t be close minded just try em. I think you will be surprised.

      PXG…high end, expensive BUT good!
I am a professional golfer and have had the chance to see what all the hype about this brand is.
They simply are a great feeling club and perform well!
In the end it is down to the player to justify the price tag on his gear and as long as it works and makes you feel good, who cares if it is 50$ or a 1000$.

As any high end product of course it gets the medias attention (even if most can’t afford it….look at the car industry…)
If you all had the chance to pull up in a Lamborghni at the club house every weekend guess you would not mind? BUT there will always be the Ford Escort (90’s) driver, who will think the Lambo is an expensive shit car…

My question is will he be profit sharing the money he makes off of these “Lamborghini of Clubs” named from Marine MOS’s that owned/earned them as part of their lives, and “Mr. GO DADDY” uses them to make a profit from (?) So would be only fitting he share some of this $$$ with the service and men/women that earned those numbers and give half to the wounded warriors project. Since he himself likes to say (ALOT) he “claimed” the title, and if so, then him knowing the history, then that would be the ” Honorable thing” wouldn’t it>? Might help some 03’S /08’S and other brother Marines get in and out of their escorts a bit easier. Curious to see also what ,,7 or $1000/$2000 & more in higher price buys you in yardage and accuracy gains as well. How many extra yards and accuracy is purchased at ,7 $$1000/2000 ++ dollars increase in price tag$ gets you in the high end side of life, because if its not “Lamborghini spectacular” at that price, then I am just paying for the name PXG and the “status” it tries to over inflate at every turn with its absurd price tagging . If I “bought into that shit at those prices with nothing to show for it($$$) in a ma$$ively significant improvement, then I would take that “status” I bought with the PXG purchase and reapply it to myself with some modifications out of “my newly earned “status” and rearrange a few letters and apply it to myself as = , (caps) an = S t A tu S =lesson learned . then go get my old ford escort driver and PING one out to about 295-310 . and feel pretty damn good about it, and if I crash my escort ,I can afford another as opposed to my S t A t u S LamborPXGhini. LEST WE FORGET “Go Daddy’ was some “thing” with some really nice spectacular T & A pushing it == and That WRAPPING was great .,
Ofcourse All this just my opinion for myself.
I drive a FORD F250 and in L4, I’m pretty sure I can drive right over the top of the PXGHINI.

In 2013, I hit a Titleist 907 D1 that had been fitted for a friend with the Kiyoshi Purple…I offered him $400.00 on the spot after 3 hits.

What was the top end of the market BEFORE PXG? Probably a Japanese brand right? Well, I think what Mr. Parsons saw was an opportunity to position his clubs at the high end of the market with an American manufacturing process. Whether the clubs are worth the price is up to the individual golfer to decide. Some golfers think that spending money on a set of Callaway’s is a total waste when there are second hang clubs available at 1/3rd the price. Does that mean that Callaway’s are over priced? Probably not to someone who is willing to pay the price, just like someone willing to pay the price for PXG.

All you people complaining about the price of PXG remind me of the second hand club buyer complaining about you!

Sure, he gets PXG money, but he’s now 2 years into his brand change. Should have ironed out some things by now, right?
Still a top 50 player, but has the competitive fire waned, or is it really the gear?

Anyone making a comment about ‘how is this going to help grow the game?’ or ‘golf is already too expensive!’ is missing the point entirely and thinking way too left wing IMO.

They made a company whose mission was to make ‘the best money can buy’ expensive clubs, and their target market is people with a lot of money to spend on them.

Your criticism is the equivalent of saying Porsche is not helping grow the number of people driving cars because they are too expensive. You can always buy a Kia if you want a vehicle for a fraction of the cost of a Porsche. Just like you can always buy second hand clubs or previous model year brand name clubs.

Seems to me that mr. Parsons isn’t interested in the mass market buyer but the players that are more or less trying to impress their peers rather than producing positive results.
With all of the tours professionals he has signed over the past couple of years has to have added a tremendous amount of overhead cost of producing his product and given the small influence the tour has with the average buyer any more must narrow his target buyers even more.
I would think even for a billionaire it would be a risky task and without commingling funds from other resources this company could not stand a lone.

This is going to no more to change an average players game than correcting a grip, using the correct ball, or matching shaft to swing speed. None of those solutions cost $750. Guess the cost: head/$80., shaft/$40., grip/$15., R&D per club/$50., 100%profit/$185 = $370. At $750., this is the ideal club for the pre adolescent adult with far too much loose change.

You might be a little on the lite side with the $ amounts.
I’m thinking … head/$70, shaft/$40, grip/$15, R&D + new PXG staffers/$250 per club + 200% profit = $750 per driver. See, just enough to cover his costs. Someone will pay it, just not me.

      Mike B

Well PXG prides themselves as the best product anywhere, at any price, and they spare no cost in R&D and materials. What would be interesting to find out is what (if any) shaft is included in the price.
I know the company has an extensive fitting capability with a boatload of aftermarket shafts to try and match your game, so the $5,000 price tag per set might be, well a tad optimistic.(lol) You could spend $2,000 just on the driver. The head I’ve seen list retail for $750. Add an Ozik TP5Hde(?) for say another $1,100, with taxes, awfully darn close to 2k. Fairway with the same shaft? Say $1,500? High end hybrids? $500 each? There’s another grand. So that’s $4,500 + and we haven’t even touched irons, wedges, and putter.
      Ouch.
