Pivot Pro for those who sway. Matzie Swing Trainer for grooving a better swing and path. Recently added a Speed Whoosh and DST Compressor that are ok as well.

      Stubby Putter.

Forces you to groove your putting stroke and hit the center of the putter face at the same time. Very natural to use as it is just like a regular putter so the training translates to the course very easily.

      Fun too!

The Momentus heavy club, Speed Woosh, Tour Stryker, Never Miss putting aid and, alignment sticks all grace our household. The Alignment sticks and the Momentus get the most use year in and year out. The most helpful… maybe the Never Miss!

I have an old Swing Speed Stick which I’ve had since they were introduced. I always use it prior to a round. First to stretch shoulders, arms and lower back. Then to make a few swings until I get the swing speed indicator over 95.

I believe the IZZO smooth Swing Trainer proved to me to be the best because of its simplicity (both arms are tucked in during the back and forward swings), you get a real feel for the golf swing, and it’s relatively inexpensive.

Skillz Gold Flex. It’s similar to the Orange Whip but cheaper. By far. The best trainer I’ve ever used. It helps with timing, lag and great warm up before a round. My distance increased because of better timing and and had a better understanding of my release point. My friends have asked me what I’ve been doing different. I shrug my shoulder and say I don’t know.

The Tour Striker Smart Ball to deal with the dreaded chicken wing and encourages you to keep your arms and body working together in a connected swing.

The Tour Striker Club to train a pure strike. It intuitively teaches you the correct way to deliver the “sweet spot” of the golf club to the ball.

Pure Path might have been helpfu (2 years ago) but better quality materials were needed to increase durability.
Speed Whoosh helps me warm up and dial in the release point.
A simple 4″ diameter rubber ball from a 99 cent store between my elbows really does help reduce the chicken wing effect.

I have three swing training devices that really stand out for me that actually work. The best is the Putting Fork Pro. Simple, effective and easy to carry around in your golf bag. Any putting flaws are quickly diagnosed and the bottom line is it will help your putting.

The next best device I have ever purchased and almost the equal to the Putting Fork Pro is the Super Speed golf training system. It’s not cheap at $199, but it’s worth every penny. It just flat out works. You must be dedicated and stick to the program, but your distance will increase as will your club head speed.

My other favorite training device is the Orange Whip. So simple yet so effective. It’s great for tempo, timing and stretching while in use. I was very skeptical at first, but after using it for several months now I can’t seem to do without it. It’s also great for warming up with. I keep it in my golf bag constantly.

I’ve tried many different golf training aids in the past but these are my top three products that I know from personal experience do what they say they are supposed to do.

In 2006 I started a venture to build a swing training device, EvolSwing. We began researching in a different way since personal experience and observation of professional training systems weren’t effective. We consulted PhD’s of Kinesiology and Brain Studies and realized that most training aids are geared towards different skill levels and rarely does one size fits all. Take the expensive computerized devices. All essentially work to provide swing data post swing. This data is only useful to the golfer if he is skilled enough to comprehend his problem and can correct it. Truth is most cannot. This is why when beginners take lessons from pro’s they struggle to effect change. It’s not the pro’s fault nor the student’s. Learning it turns out requires building neural connections that are both simple yet complex. Simple devices that you strap on or in some way “restrict or confine” and physically guide are good but don’t teach but rather act as crutches that when withdrawn cause the user to fall. Devices that give instruction post swing don’t aid the novice since the opportunity to connect with the learning part of the brain has past. This is why spanking your dog after you come home from work discovering he’s peed again on the carpet doesn’t work. The dog like your brain doesn’t get it. I’ll leave it there just saying that golf devices are still a ways off from where they need to be. Our company has built lab models that solve these issues but we still need testing and further development to overcome some hurdles. The answer is incredibly simple but the technology to do it is rather complicated.

      Ok 3 for me;
      1. Firstly 20 years ago I used a device called a RIGHT ANGLE which a RH player wears on R arm to stop excessive bending(90 deg bend is maximum) I had a massive overswing and couldnt believe that what felt like half a swing(to me) hit the ball just as far! I still use it periodically to this day. Darren Clarke used it a lot
      2. Recently I bought a Skillz ‘ball first’ trainer which is meant to stop you hitting ground before ball. Interestingly I think it’s rubbish at that but it’s very easily adapted to the best alignment EVER! I was astonished how far my aim was off on the putting green where I was aiming 2 holes right from 20 feet and on tee/fairway I was aiming 15 yards left, way way better than an alignment rod.
      3. The Wonder Stick- Basically ahead of its time it’s in essence an alignment rod strapped to your front to teach you ‘connection’ especially good for chip pitches.

I have played for 60 years long before any swing trainers were introduced. Back then practice was the only trainer you had available and that worked pretty darn well. The only three I have found that have been helpful over the past 10 years other than old fashioned practice are alignment sticks which I bought from Lowes, the Orange Whip for tempo and GSA Pro for swing analysis. My game has improved drastically since I spent the money to create the home hitting bay in the driveway complete with launch monitor (SkyTrak). Being able to see ball flight through the iPad software and see the numbers is powerful. It beats hitting balls at the range or at Top Golf that travel 30% less due to poor ball quality. When you can use your own performance balls you can really dial in the distance and be confident in your swing. Instead of a 10-30 yard window, you are right-on with your clubs from drives to approach shots.

For putting, I use the Dirty Larry putter trainer and also draw the sharpie lines on the ball to pick my putting line during on-course play. This helped to drop my putting to around 32-33/round with only 1 or 2 3-putts and 4-5 1-putt.

For my game tracker and statistics, I recommend the Arrcos system with the sensors in each club. After two rounds so far it has not missed a swing and is so easy that you can leave the phone in the pocket and really enjoy your gamer instead of checking it every two seconds. I am really looking forward to the release of the machine-learning and statistical course analyzer software that Arrcos will release in a couple months.

Granted what I describe above costs a lot of money and may be cost prohibitive, but I have never seen a faster improvement in my game going from about a 35 handicap to a 20 handicap in a year and a half. I also have had a year of lessons at GolfTec to get professional help during this time. It makes this game fun and enjoyable when you put the time and the correct training in.
