SPY PIC! – Taylormade Goblin Putter?

Ghost & Goblins!

First there was the Taylormade Ghost…could the Goblin be next?  Well…Ghost & Goblins do go together like Frank & Beans…but I probably wouldn’t go betting on this ever making into the Taylormade line-up.   This came across my desk the other day as just a concept a designer was working on.  So…no word on whether or not the Goblin will ever get the go ahead.  I see quite a few of these…although this is definitely one of the more interesting ideations I have seen in quite some time.

I have to agree with Dave, the color scheme is pretty cool and would go nicely with the RBZ lineup, the concept is kinda cool. Now before everyone starts calling me crazy, take a minute and think about who this putter would appeal to. Dare I say the Ed Hardy crowd, maybe….

Make it white with the green still involved and you got a Rocketballz putter. That might look pretty good. Maybe this putter won’t actually have the Taylormade name on it. Maybe it will be an Adams or Yes branded putter. Usually what Taylormade touches turns into green for the company (yep pun intended), so we shouldn’t be surprised by anything…Remember Rocketballz reaction last year?

Just watch – having sold in this industry (retail side) years ago, as soon as some pro uses it to win a tour event, BANG, the “common” golfer will be clamoring for it immediately.

‘aloadaballs’ballz………….to be fair the putter looks very busy but i really believe if a putter works for someone it is truely down to the eye of the beholder. I may pick this up and want to vomit but the next guy may shave a few shots off his handicap.

I game a ping scottsdale B60 but have tm daytona anser style putter as a back up. TM actually make some really good short game products……wedges have always been pretty good and they are forward thinking in that department. Its a shame they are obsessesed with making money out of people from focusing soley on woods…….

Oh and i loved the comment they made the other day about their products being for the better player and the adams line up being for the hacker….we could read that as being tm products are just simply not forgving….er whacking the wrong shaft on clubs etc……come on tm! The likes of ping and wilson staff now look at promoting a little forgiveness even their ‘better player irons’……tm could learn a thing or two from this!

Imagine how many clubs they’d sell if they held back a little and focused on the woods being that bit more forgiving…..ye they’d look ugly tm…but they’d do they job their supposed to.

i think we should have a contest on name branding tmag club’s! ( how much fun can we have with this ?) this putter could be the rollerballz , and from here on out we can just name brand all of their stuff for them, i.e. thundernutz, driverbombz, nukei’m’ironz, wedgezipperspinz, etc.

Reserving any comments on performance because who knows if it puts the ball in the hole but aesthetically, pretty ugly. Of course that would change if I made a few putts with it.

Is that some kind of cushion right between the face and body? It’s a little busy for my taste but if it has good feel and rolls true who cares what it looks like. I’ve definitely seen uglier designs.

I’m breaking your balls T. I’m very happy with ci11 review and with you mentioning them making excellent irons. It defies belief that Wilson golf aren’t that big in america but massive over here in Europe. I’ve got g15 irons now but I had set of di7 irons in the past and they were solid. The ci7 irons were amazing I stuck a few in the bag just before I moved to the pings. Anyway I’m visiting Orlando for Christmas and will probably try some rbz gear but have fell in love with i20 hybrid. Keep up the good work T! I’m only here to nit pick what is overall great work on your part bud!

I personally favor the design, although I agree that it has a lot going on (colors, straight lines, color lines, curves, lettering, etc) – which may be actually more distracting when in use. I think enclosing it (keeping all the “mess” contained) may be better, but admittedly, it would make the putter less impressive-looking.

Whether postive or negative there is suddenly this influx of TM related articles….’no such thing as bad press’.

Long shot……TM ask golf spy to stick this on the site to see what the guys think?

Wonder if wilson staff or John Letters would get the same treatment…..they could ask you to verify a claim that their new driver will get you an extra 25 yards….you show this to be false and edward scissor hands jumps out and gives ye a buzz….shaving ‘puppet’ into your head.

mikerio – we’ve definitely been a little TM heavy of late. That said, we go where the stories are, and whether it’s my trip to the Kingdom, the acquisition of Adams, or what I would consider the most successful marketing campaign in the industry (RBZ, DriverLove, Headcovers and hats, etc.), TaylorMade is the one golf company out there constantly giving people something to talk about…for better or worse.

As for TM providing us with the Goblin (or any other pic). I can assure you that didn’t happen. On several occasions TM has asked us not to post something…or un-post something as the case may be, but never have the asked us to post anything. Big golf companies work in often predictable ways. If this is something TM was using to put a feeler out on, chances are you’d see it places where TM traditionally has a friendlier relationship.

Since you mentioned Wilson and John Letters…we posted a Wilson review yesterday, and are actively trying to work with them on some other things. As for John Letters, we’ve tried for two seasons now to get some of their product in for testing, but have come up empty.

There’s a lot of stuff that goes on behind the scenes here, and just because you don’t see something from company X doesn’t mean we’re not actively trying to work with them. Some companies are simply more responsive than others.

Wait – the green goblin was the bad guy, unpredictable, and flat out psychotic…three things I don’t want attached to my putter. Looks a bit awkward with that sharp plumber’s neck all the at the end of the heel.

I’d pick it up to try, but wouldn’t go in with high hopes.
