Win a Year’s Supply of ONCore ELIXR Golf Balls
OnCore’s mission is to infuse fun and enjoyment into an amazing sport, while continuing to introduce game-changing technology and products that remain within the rules of golf.  – OnCore Golf

Last month, we introduced you to Buffalo-based ball manufacturer OnCore Golf, and while that piece you a closer look at the team behind the brand, the company is perhaps best known for its hollow metal core technology. What golfers still may not realize is that OnCore also produces more conventional, tour-quality products designed for serious players.

Like many of the new generation ball companies, OnCore believes its ELIXR Ball is every bit the equal of premium offerings from Titleist, Bridgestone, Callaway, and well, you know the list. What separates OnCore from many of its upstart competitors is that it isn’t relabeling a generic factory ball, it’s innovating; leveraging new materials and proprietary designs to create a tour-quality ball unlike anything else on the market.

About the ELIXR

Like many in the category, the ELIXR features 3-Piece construction. Instead of rubber, OnCore uses a composite core, which it says delivers exceptional CoR for maximum distance. The distinguishing feature of the ELIXR is its polymer mantle layer that’s infused with high-density metal particles. OEMs are only now starting to talk about MOI in a golf ball, but the benefit of putting more mass towards the perimeter is greater stability, particularly in windy conditions. As you would expect from a tour-level ball, the ELIXR features a cast urethane cover for soft feel and outstanding greenside control.

On a personal note, I completely understand your skepticism. MOI in a golf ball? If this is the first time you’ve heard of it, it won’t be the last, I promise.

The fact is that upstart brands send us golf balls all the time and the majority are either indistinguishable from one another or just plain bad. The ELIXR is different, and that caught me by surprise. I don’t expect you to take my word for it, however, which is why we’re giving away a 1-year supply (that’s 12 dozen) to one lucky reader.

Been playing the Bridgestone B-330/B for years. Absolutely love the distance off the tee, and the spin/control around the greens is superb. Would love to compare the B to the OnCore Elixr!

Keep up the good work MGS!!

I look for feel off the face, not too hard but not a marshmallow either. Of course green side spin is important, can’t have approach shots constantly rolling off the back. Low spin off the driver. Able to last a full round without looking like a peeling sunburn.

I have a new golf life by using innovative single-length irons.

I look for an affordable ball that will give me better distance as a slower senior swinger as well as good gripping action on greens. I don’t like playing balls that I’ll feel bad about loosing due to cost. One lost ball shouldn’t impact if I can afford a beer or not after the round.

Most amateur golfers are apt to be frustrated from the tee shot. Most of the balls they shot with a driver or iron are thick slices or hooks, and OB has become very familiar words.
So, for amateur golfers, what they want is !!
      First, fly straight !
      Second, fly straight!!
      Third, fly straight!!!
      Last time, fly straight!!!!!!
If there is a golf ball that flies straight even if there is a little miss shot, I would be more than willing to pay for my purse.

However, when I putt or drive, it seems not all balls are perfectly balanced.
The ball I look for should be perfectly balanced and have super recovery capability after a shot. Need more spin on wedge shots with soft feel but should the cover resist for at least 9 holes. I am not sure how you can meet this conflicting requirement at the same time but I would bet that you will come up with a solution. Thanks for reading my comments.

I choose my ball on the putting green. I like a softer ball to putt with, so I start testing from there. Last year I was playing a chrome soft and tour perferred. Good distance off the driver, liked the feel off the irons and the control around the greens. The feel off the putter to me was like butter with these 2 balls. Have purchased several dozen of the OnCore Elxir balls in yellow for test. Benn playing Bridgestone B330S for several years for fell, sound & spin qualities …..but like yellow & wished the B330S was available in yellow.

These new OnCore balls are strong contenders in the Big Game of balls.
They fly well, sound good & spin well. If I had anything negative to say about the test to date, their covers are less durable than most other top players balls. They seem to scuff fairly easily & if you have coarse sand in the bunkers, they actually gouge the covers. If you changed balls every few holes like a tour player, then you have no issues. Most players at the club level don’t change balls unless they lose it, cut it or get mad as hell at the innocent ball & throw it away !

These are a good ball value @ $ 30. a dozen in my humble opinion.

I’m looking for a ball that can take an ass whooping when it hits the cart path, trees and various other obstructions that jump up in front of my ball and usually leave scuff marks.

It has to not be scared of the greens and run off the back without thinking of stopping on it’s way through.

I’d love it if I could find one that floats and has a little propeller to bring it up from the depths of whatever body of water I land it in.

Lastly, I’d like a ball that doesn’t say “See ya in the trees” as soon as I hit it off the tee.

Sure, I’d love a ball that doesn’t sound like a rock, when struck and has a stopping ability like it’s hit Velcro, as well as being durable enough to not get scuffed by well struck wedges, but I’d be happy any of the items mentioned above.

Cheers & Good luck to everybody.

As a true amateur golfer my desires rank the way most people do. Distance with green side spin and a smooth soft feel. The purity of the roll on the green is critical since that’s where I make up my strokes lost on distance shots.I normally hit straight until my back gets tired and freezes into constant pulls. Flight correction is not my top concern. Power hitters and long hitters need to worry more about flight correction than we mortal distance hitters. I would love to try the Oncore. It sounds like a perfect ball at the “normal” production level, not the elite level.

The last couple years have really looked for an all around ball. I want distance off the tee AND I want spin for approach shots. For now have not found anything better than ChromeSoft. The right mix of compression, feel, and spin. It’s helped me break 90 numerous times this past season. If OnCore has a similar performing ball, I’d be all over that like a fat kid on a Twinkie.

So, I played the metal core on-core for about a half a season and liked the ball a ton…however, I couldn’t get over the sound of the ball. I then went to Bridgestone for quite awhile than switched to the Snell MTB after trying the Vice line of balls (Wife plays the Vice Drive and loves them!). I just bought 2 dozen of theOnCore Elixir, for both of us and a our very close friends which we travel with to play golf, to try out. Will be in Florida this weekend and will be comparing them to the Snell and Vice balls we play.

I purchased a dozen of these as a holiday gift to myself, if I win a dozen more then that would give me a lucky 13 dozen for the upcoming season.

I just purchased 3 dozen Elixr’s back in December, for myself and to gift out, and while the weather has been bad for golf up here in Jersey, I did get 1 round in with the Elixr.

I was skeptical at first, bc I have recently transitioned to the Vice Pro Plus and Pro V 1 X specifically for lower spin off the driver. It was a bit longer off the tee than my regular Vice Pro, or Titlest ProV. This ball was responsive around the green, checked well and felt very nice.

I seem to get better results in general with 4 piece balls anymore, ProV 1X, and Srixon XV along with the Vice Pro Plus. However, this 3 piece ball, gives very similar results to those balls.
Good ball, seems forgiving enough and responds well. I’d love to have had more time with it, but I gotta let the snow melt and its gotta get at least out of the teens in temperature before I can really put them to the test. LOL

I was a big fan of the Callaway Warbird series. They had great distance without losing control. I am after a ball that delivers consistent long distance but with control. I am a big guy (6 feet 9 inches tall) and I like to smash my drives but I need the control for when I miss-hit. The perimeter weighting sounds interesting and might be helpful since we get very windy conditions where I play.

Let’s face it the prov1 and prov1x are the yardstick set for all golf balls. If the Elixr wants a piece of that market you have to get our attention. Sell us a few dozen at $15 a dozen. 2 or 3 dozen ought to do it. Then if it’s all that and a bag of chips we will gladly pay the $35. My feelings is if I’m going to throw down $35 to start with I’ll just go ahead and buy my regular ball. I play on a very wooded course with a lot of brush. I loose a lot of balls. As a High School Golf Coach I can safely say so do my players. Ps. Mygolfspy.com you rock!

A ball that springs off the face yet is low spin at impact. This ensures I get distance from tee to green and control when chipping and putting. A ball that won’t discolor after a couple rounds and a ball with a cover that won’t chip after one round.

A ball that my partner questions what ball I just hit after I drive it 10 yards further than his drive.

I’ll pay for a good ball and will brag about it non stop during a round. So if it can bring those things described above to my game; that is all I ask of it.

It looks to me that we all need to practice a heck of a lot more than we are !!!
If we are looking for a ball to help correct all these things in our games,,,, we will probably be better off working on consistency in our games,,,
I’m sure the ball we are using now, Titelist, Bridgestone, Srixon,, even Nitro,,, at times in our rounds, does exactly the things we are asking it to do…
I’ll bust a drive right up the gut, 260 yards,,, next tee shot, same ball, slice or hook it left or right 25 yards in to the woods…
Or we are 35 yards short of a green, and we hit a great bump & run to just inside 10 feet,,, then the very next time we have a similar shot, we chili-dip and don’t even make it on to the fringe…
My golfing brethren out there,,, it’s about practice & commitment to our games,,,,,, That is how the pros do it…

The biggest thing for me is stopping on the green from my approach shots. Low spin distance balls just run right off. I want to know from 150 yards and in, my ball will be stopping in a reasonable distance when landing on the green.

Most important thing for a ball is to stay out of the woods, wait that would be operator error. Kidding aside I don’t hit a high percentage of greens in regulation so my round comes down to chipping and putting. I need the feel of the ball with my wedges and control for lobs or roll with chips. When I am rolling my chips and putts I am scoring.

My ideal golf ball has relatively high spin to stop on the green. With my swing characteristics, that also maximizes my distance on drives. Better balls have moderately high compression which I like since I hit the ball hard. All balls now have a relatively durable cover, not like the old balata covered balls so that isn’t an issue.

I would really like to get the change to play with this ball. When I am considering playing a ball, I usually start with putting and shipping with it to see hoe the ball reacts and feels. After that I play some full wedge and mid iron shots and check ball flight and spin. If the feeling die me is right and the flight and spin look good, then I’ll play the ball on the course for a couple of rounds. I do this almost every year to descide on my gamer ball die the season.

I want a ball that feel soft on impact, mid range on spin since i live in hawaii and the greens aren’t conducive to spin on most courses i play. Also one that has a boring flight , rather than one that uses dimples to get up higher which is better for a lot of the drier courses in Hawaii and for some reason the ball travels less than on the mainland USA due to the heavier air? or something like that.

Low Spin (So it doesn’t spin off the green on full shots and carries well off the tee)

I like medium-low spinning with a medium-soft feel. Just enough spin so that I can work it left to right and but helps keep my spin numbers a little lower with the driver and iron as I am a medium-high spinning player. I’ve been with ProV1 for a few years now but I’m considering a switch to the B330 series.

I love that the new golf balls seem to all have lower compression.
Hey old timers: Remember when good players played 100 compression, and the rest were 90 compression. Then lower compression balls came out, but they were “ladies” balls.
I can’t believe how much better I can chip and pitch and putt.
      A mishit isn’t so damaging.
One still gets the distance on drives. The ball is still checking up on full shots into the green.
A urethane cover is good for spin, but I can still get it with a less expensive ball of good quality.
But that incredible ability to mishit a chip and not feel that awful click in which the ball goes halfway to the hole is wonderful. The ball now goes right up near the hole now. It takes off like you hit a superball, even if you hit it poorly.
I’ve read the MGS article on the OnCore ball, with the metal core and the perimeter weighting. I’d love to take it for a spin, so I hope I win.

I have played the ProV1 X for a while now, I’ve tried a bunch of other golf balls including Snell tour ball which was pretty good. The prov1 slightly higher launch is what has brought me back to it each time. No loss in distance for the extra initial launch angle. My only complaint would be I wish it spun slightly less, the X’s spin rate is a little high for me when conditions are windy. Which is often for me since I live along the coast. Great in windy conditions, mid to higher launch angle, soft feel for chipping and putting and consistent distance is more important than extra distance for me. I have a fairly high swing speed so consistent distance changes between 3/4 swings and full swings is important, I’ve found some balls like chrome soft give me too many flier balls. Sounds like a very interesting ball with the extra weight towards the outside of the ball.

I only play premium balls and love a challenger brand, so if you’ve got a better ball by virtue of technology – not hpyperbole – then I want to see it. And play it.

I like to feel the compression on both irons and the driver. The spin must allow me to hold greens despite my slower swing speed on full shots and generate good spin around the greens.

Low Spin off the Driver with a penetrating ball flight; manageable trajectory (higher) trajectory with the long Irons; lower trajectory (high spin rate) flight with the short Irons. It just seems like most of todays balls, have a lower flight trajectory then those of the past. Hence, the long Iron shots are much harder (for the average human) to hit high enough to have any stopping power on the greens.

I look for a with a durable urethane cover that holds its color well, (my only grip with my prized K-sigs they tend to lose paint) . A ball doesn’t scuff when I graze a tree or bounce one off the path, or peel when I hit a pure wedge shot. I’m a mid handi, but have decent enough game that I play mostly Pro1x or a K-sig when I play a course where I won’t lose many if any, so I love a 3 or 4 piece to get the right spin around the green.

I’ve gotten particular about my ball, not necessarily from a brand/performance standpoint but from a intangible/confidence perspective. Addressing a pristine, bright white ball with a nice logo and alignment markings just gives me a little confidence boost. I had been playing Nike RZNs for a bit, switched to Titleists primarily and have picked up a few VICE balls which I liked a lot. Was gifted two boxes of TP5s which I have yet to hit; I’ll be curious to put them into action when midwest weather warms up.

I want a golf ball that feels soft yet firm and spins well around the green. It should carry well off the tee and settle into the green with mid-irons. It also needs to be in the less than $30/dozen new area or I’ll consider buying a used premium ball from a reputable seller on EBay.

Distance is nice in a ball, but ultimately I make my buying decision based on the ball’s characteristics from 150 yards in. The ability to stop the ball with good backspin into the greens with approach shots is key for me. Similarly, I look for a ball that tends to check some with shorter chips.

I’m a young, high handicapper. I try to kill the ball and I don’t golf enough to be consistent. I don’t seek much in a golf ball. I’m more drawn to brand and promises (straightness) than anything. I haven’t played enough to learn a difference between driving a 5-layer ball (can’t afford!) and a dual layer one. Hopefully 2018 I get out on the course more and refine my game.

When looking for a golf ball, I start around the green. I want a lot of spin around the green but I do not want too soft of a feel. I want the feedback of where the ball has contacted the face with every shot around the green, including off the putter. From there, I move back to the fairway. The ball has to land softly on long iron shots, it cannot come in flat and release upon landing. The last and least important for me is off the tee. I can always adjust my driver if the ball spins too much off the tee. Control is a must from tee to green.

When I finally find a ball that will stay inflated, I’ll be happy because they won’t sink to the bottom of the lake anymore! I want one that won’t shank, slice, act like a worm and one that doesn’t talk back… Really, I want one that does have feel when you hit is lightly just off the green so you can back spin it…….and at the same time can do some distance with a driver…and even some soft feel when I put from the edge of the green… I really don’t care about durability as that is why you buy a box at a time..

Prefer a nice soft feel off the irons, which tells you where on the face it was hit and how well; also one that you can work direction wise, when the need is there. Of course great spin around the greens, to have ball sit where you want it and even draw back into the hole every once in a while. Consistent distance & feel off the driver and fairways too. To me, a ball with those attributes tells the whole story…

I look for a golf ball a little on the softer side that doesn’t create a ton of spin. But creates enough where I can get it to hop/stop on the greens, and that’s not too clicky when putting. I was a huge fan of the NXT line, but now Titleist is discontinuing the line for the new more expensive AVX. So I’ve been in search of a new ball and have heard good reviews on OnCore golf balls. Side note: I went and got fitted for a golf ball on a launch monitor, weird but it was very good to see the numbers. It ended up putting me in the Srixon Z-Star, so if I don’t win this contest I look forward to seeing how those are on the course.

Very smart, as you are learning, to stick with one ball. I hear people (some I play with) all the time say that their game isn’t good enough to worry about the ball and they play whatever they can find on sale. I beg to differ. If your game isn’t great to begin with, adding one consistency has to be a good thing.

I look for softness and distance with woods. Looks can be a big factor as well. Some designs out there are hideous. To the point, I don’t think I would game it even if it was a highly rated ball.

I look for spin and feel around the greens and stable ball flight. I believe Dean Snell when he says balls go more or less the same distance, but their true distinction is 150 yards and in. The Snell MTB matched what I was looking for thanks to your testing. It makes perfect sense that increasing the mass of the mantle would increase MOI of the rotating ball. I am eager to see if ELIXR can deliver.

I look for a ball that gives me a penetrating flight and stops fast. Soft feel off the putter so far the chrome soft x is the best ball I’ve found that covers All that plus is long and checks nicely. Plus at 39.99 a dz/ best bang for the buck I’ve found. Having said that I play in a men’s club and in team events we typically play with the prov1 or the prov1x depending on the make up of the group. I’ve long played with the prov1x until 2017 when getting turned on to the Callaway chrome soft x. Really aside from the Callaway being a softer feel off the putter I think they’re pretty similar otherwise. Would be interesting to see if this ball does what you say, I currently have a knockoff two ball putter I’ve never putted better and been playing 30 years this year!! I Know it’s how it works not the name on it as long as it’s legal so bring on The Encore!!!!!

What am I looking for in a golf ball? Today’s performance with yesterday’s balata feel. More driver distance? Most of the balls on the market only have a variance of around 5 yards, so that isn’t a big concern for me. Spin? Sure, I could use more. I like work the ball and it would be nice to have more spin from the irons and wedges. Putting? See the aforementioned balata. So if this ball can be my ELIXR, hook me up.

I enjoyed the article on this company and what they have coming down the pike which is fantastic, so trying out what they have to offer would certainly be exciting.

1st thing I look for in a ball is feel. Cheap ball can feel like you are hitting hallow rocks.
2nd is spin controll, shots around the green, how do the ball check/roll out. Finding that ball that balances compliments your short game can be a big stroke saver.

As a relatively new player, I look for bang for my buck. As my game has improved, I’ve been moving away from two-piece balls to balls that offer more control and spin around the green. The catch is trying to find that control at a price point where I can afford to lose a few (some days more that a few). I have tried the Elixr and it has great consistency and feel. Great ball.

I prefer a ball with minimal spin and maximum distance when I hit a feel good shot! For me that comes from a soft feeling ball that flys off the club head when solid contact is made.

To me there are 3 key factors:
Trajectory – a ball has to hit a certain launch on my stock shot, if it does then i can have confidence in altering my launch for the shots i want to hit.
Sound – Many can chock this up to the club, but to me the ball can have a huge influence – IE go hit an old 20XI-X vs a TP5 and tell me its the club that affects sound
Feel – i want a ball that jumps of the driver, smooth off my irons and feels meaty on my wedges and putter.

If a ball can meet most of these factors its a winner (presently TP5X is the front runner for whats out in the market)

It had all the feel and spin I needed around the green but actually had lower spin off the driver which gave me a few extra yards. I also love to have a solid feel, that helps you to identify, where you have hit it on the club face.

In addition it is nice to have a ball, that cleans up easily, and stays white for a while.
If the ball is also durable, and has no clicky sound it would be perfect.

To be honest, I already tested the Elixr, and it seems, that it is already ticking all that boxes – for me.

The game of golf is about understanding the mechanics of the golf swing and then practicing certain drills to tune your mind and body to repeat them on each and every swing.
The same has to be said about putting.
However to do both of these you need unwavering confidence in the golf ball you’re playing with. You need to believe that with each and every putt you’re going to put it in the hole. The ball has to help you build that confidence and make you believe you’re going to make every putt.

Spin around the green is the most important aspect of a ball for me. If I hit a great shot and the ball rolls clear across the green, then what good is it? Soft feel is a distant second. Other than that One that cuts through the wind would be ideal.

Absolutely the best ball I have ever played with. I can work the ball so good. And putts so well. Thanks for making a great ball.

In the last 2 years I went from 19 down to 12 on my way to single digits for my handicap. Control around the greens is my aim.

I look for these things in a golf ball. 1 durability – it needs to be able to take a beating and not scuff easily. 2 greenside control – spin rates and grabs from quality dimples. 3 feel – sound soft and pure with a putter, compression off the driver, and a nice click from a chip. I can control the other aspects but the golf ball dictates the above based on how it is made and what it is made of.

I look for value and feel. I really like a ball that I feel gives me short game confidence. I like to test a ball with my putter I am probably a bit off I guess but I know there are some brands that I just wont play I use them for the water hazard shot where you go for it because they feel like crap when I put with it.

Great giveaway. As someone that plays the elixr ball, i find it has the perfect blend of soft feel, good spin off irons/wedges, and not overly spinny off the driver. Plus it holds its line in the wind. Sounds like the perfect ball to me.

I have only hit the ball a few times, but each time it feels great. Such a great concept behind the ball. I hope more people get a chance to try these balls out this coming season.

I would love to see if these are noticably more consistent. I look for consistent iron performance.

I think the first thing I look for is impact/feel, how does it feel when I strike the ball. Next would be how does it handle on the green, does it do what I think it’s going to do? (That’s easy the ball never does what I want it to.) Third, aesthetics how does the ball look? A big part of my game is style, and the design needs to appease me.

I have used and experimented with every On Core ball. Probably have bought, through various offers, about ten dozen of them. Have give them to friends to test as well…all with glowing remarks. Send me some more please. Thanks. DH

I look for a golfball that provides true consistency through for the main components of my game with a focus on responsiveness and feel. If the ball provides me the opportunity to hit a 6 iron into a green and it holds really well and feels great off the putter face, I am sold.

Most importantly, a golf ball should be very, very round. The ball should have the appropriate dimpling to allow it to remain aloft as long as possible. It should not have a Blatta cover as that is too easy to make into a smiley face. The ball must give good distance while allowing it to remain in the fairway. The ball must rotate at an appropriate RPM so as to allow good height when properly struck while also providing back-up ability on shots appropriately made to the putting surface, if desired by the player. The ball must run true when putted and not fly off the putter face while, at the same time, not have the feeling of a “dead” object. In short, the ball must instill confidence in the player to make the drive, fairway-rough-bunker shot, or putt as desired. This is all that is required of the ball. Nothing more; nothing less.
