(10)Testers Wanted SkyCaddie LX5 GPS Watch

There’s some irony when contemplating the market for watches in 2020.

Specifically, it’s a situation where the original purpose of the item is no longer a defining selling point.

Remember when the primary, if not the only, purpose of a watch was to keep time? Me neither.

It’s a reasonable assumption that time is anything but of the essence; golfers are far more interested in all of the golf-related stuff that this piece of wearable technology does.

The SkyCaddie LX5 GPS watch is built around the architecture of the SX500which was named the “Best Handheld GPS” in MyGolfSpy’s annual Most Wanted testing.

It offers an abundance of bundled golf technology, and did I mention it also tells time. Ain’t that something?

Testers Wanted

We’re looking for TEN golfers who are motivated, detail-oriented, and committed to providing a thorough review to put the SkyCaddie LX5 to the test.

Testing is open to golfers in the USA only.

Think you are a good fit?

Several things to note from my experience so far.
It is very cumbersome to switch from golf mode to time mode. So much so that I don’t do it. Instead I pull out my phone.for time.

The screen times out after a period that you set, up to 30 seconds. This is the weakest feature to me. The battery life is plenty. I basically use about a 1/3 charge per round. So why not allow a never dimming screen? To reactivate the screen you must touch the screen firmly several times and you might just activate a button/feature instead from the screen. Or you can press very firmly one of the two right side buttons. I’m constantly having to press them 2 or 3 times to get the screen back. Then there is a message that flashes on the screen blocking the yardage numbers. It lasts about 5 seconds. Then you get to see the numbers. Dumb.. Just provide continuous screen time like every other gps I have ever used. I requested Sky Caddie make that upgrade. There is no reason for them not make that an option. Let me decide screen time and battery life.

I would really like one of these and was considering the Shotscope V3 you just posted about. Would love to see what this can do in comparison and write it up for you best I can.

I would definitely enjoy being one of your testers. I play several times a week (10 hdcp) and being of 74 years of age I can give you different perspective than all the young guns.

I currently use a Garmin. But I am not happy with it.
The older model was better but the strap broke and of course one can’t replace it. Planned obsolesence?
At any rate I would be amenable to trying out. The SX500.

I would love to test the watch. I currently use my phone for gps course data and a Nikon Sureshot Stabilized rf.. Currently playing 2 to 3 rounds per week. Tried wearing a golf buddy back in the day but the size and limited features just didn’t work for me. Have not considered to try another watch since then, until this came out.

Would love to but am in Bermuda and therefore do not qualify. Used to use the handheld Sky Caddie which was the most accurate one around. Am presently using a bar in wrist GPS which have found to be out by 13 yards on a couple of holes on my home course. I also have a Shot Scope which is pretty good with the GPS and great with the stats.

I would like to review the new Skycaddie watch. I am interested in new clear features. I am a engineer supporting NASA and love testing. I have and still rotate thru use of the first and 4th versions of the Skycaddie handhelds, other handhelds, TECTECTEC, Nike, and Bushnell rangefinders, and have 2 Garmin and one Golf buddy watch. Thanks for the opportunity.

Ya that would be great.at 72 former Hogan Your caddy and extremely entertaining I like testing things. I do test radar detectors for I can’t say who. But play golf three times a week and work at a golf course for privilege and. Fun. I won’t comment on but lately have found some problems with my friends stick on the cart little yardage thing .

I currently use a Huawei Smartwatch running Wear OS using the Hole 19 standalone app. Very accurate and works standalone using the watch GPS.

I have previously used both Calloway and Garmin handhelds as well as Android phone apps.

My choice of distance device was a Bushnell rangefinder with slope until about a year ago. I then started using a Golf Buddy WT6 watch for instant center of the green readings. that has come in very handy for blind shots into the green, and when the course is wet/cart path only. The watch and the rangefinder together are a great combo. I use both, but use the watch more frequently. Would love to test out an ‘enhanced’ watch that does a lot more than mine does.

GPS watch. Have a Bushnell wrist golf watch. Works ok, looking to up my game with better info about the course that I play. The Bushnell wrist is limited as to distance to hazards and distance to the green, and to the flag. Looking for a user friendly tool to improve my game

I would love too. I am a scientist and love numbers. I have been keeping my statistics by hand (and sometimes accused of slow play because of it). I am also entering my shot data by hand into an Excel spreadsheet and have to cut-and-paste little dots into grids representing my approach shots at various distances. I also write well and I would provide a thorough, well-written review for you.
