FIRST LOOK: Bushnell Pro X3

Did you know almost every PGA TOUR pro uses a Bushnell rangefinder to get dialed in? Now they’re upgrading to the new Bushnell Pro X3.

And you can, too.

The new kid on the range looks similar to its older, Most Wanted Winner, brother, the Pro XE. So what makes it better?

The Bushnell Pro X3

Bushnell Golf says the Pro X3 incorporates some significant updates and features.

  • Slope with “Elements” Compensated Distances with Adjustable Home Elevation
  • Dual Display
  • Patented Locking Slope-Switch Technology
  • Patented PinSeeker With Visual JOLT
  • Integrated BITE Magnetic Cart Mount
  • IPX7 Fully Waterproof
  • Rubber Armored Metal Housing
  • 600-Yard Range to a Flag
  • 7X magnification
  • Bluetooth Connectivity to Mobile App

So, what’s different compared to the Bushnell Pro XE? Not much but something, for sure.

What’s Different About the Pro XE?

The new Bushnell Pro X3 has updated slope with elements technology. According to Bushnell Golf, “the Slope with Elements technology allows golfers to store their home elevation to reflect the slope with Elements-compensated distances at the elevation where they play their most golf.” So, basically, the slope can be normalized to your home course/or local area for more accurate slope and elements readouts.

With the Pro XE rangefinder, the only option for display was bright red which sometimes faded in direct sunlight. The Pro X3 display has the choice between bright red or crisp black based on user preference.

Another feature upgrade for the Pro X3 is its patent-pending Locking Slope-Switch  at the front of the rangefinder. By unlocking the switch, slope will be turned on and will show a bright red “Slope” reading, reducing the risk of accidentally slipping the slope-on toggle during tournament play.

For Technology Lovers

Bushnell Golf has been the benchmark for excellence for years and the new Pro X3 is another step above the competition. However, at the new price of $599.99, are there enough innovations and benefits to justify that price?

For the golfer who needs all the gear, there’s no reason not to purchase the Pro X3. Is it enough of an upgrade to justify the price? That’s up to you. For now, I’m sticking to my Bushnell Tour V5 Shift.

Does anyone know if there is a protective case with airtag option? I still don’t see any protective cases for this, just the xe, which won’t fit.

Great review! I personally just made the purchase for Pro X3. I’ve always used gps watch before so this is my first range finder. In addition to wanting a high-end range finder, the main reason why I’ve chosen the Pro X3 over other product, is because of the dual display. I’m colorblind and this is definitely a feature that brings tons of value to me which helps me justify the price.

Since this is Bluetooth enabled, if it included the ability to track the device’s location, it would assist in finding it if it becomes lost. When will this be incorporated into the Bushnell app? That alone would make it worth upgrading from the V5

really love the XE… the slope feature is a problem though and the upgrade sounds really nice. I play probably 30-40 tournament rounds per year and i definitely dont enjoy thinking about that slope button a lot.

I dont think the ‘upgrades’ are worth it. I’ll stick to my XE, its been good to me for 2 years… Maybe i’ll consider getting a new one in another couple years or when this one stops working.

Still no stabilization? Stabilization on my Nikon Coolshot is the only thing that makes a rangefinder usable for me. I won’t be moving off of it for some time. And if something happens to it, I’ll buy another..

Nice review.. Like the upgrades, Bushnell is not cheap, but the sure build a great rangefinder. I play about ten tournaments a year where you can’t use slope. This locking feature is nice because the old slide switch was way to easy to move on and off just picking it up. Also a lighter color would make it harder to blend with a black cart post, and accidentally leave it behind.

Nice review, you really covet all the bases there. $600 for a rangefinder is way past my threshold. And the whole thing about accidentally leaving on the slope feature. How many events do people play in where you can’t use the slope feature. I’d love to hear from MGS readers the % of rounds they play in a season where they have to turn the slope feature off.

I’ll stick with my older model Bushnell without slope; for now that suffices on my home course. Also, just bought the newest blue tees rangefinder model (w/ slope). Great optics. Occasionally, I do have to shoot the pin twice to ensure rhat I’m getting a correct reading but for $190, an extra second or two is absolutely no big deal.
