Each and every year, Golf Digest’s annual Hot List issue is, without debate, the single most popular issue of any golf print publication. But exactly how clubs are selected and medals awarded is a bit of a mystery.
It’s time to peek behind the curtain.
Today we’re going to give you an inside look at a piece of the Hot List process that not many people get to see.
MyGolfSpy has obtained a copy of a document all Hot List nominees are asked to submit to Golf Digest. This form provides an opportunity for manufacturers to trumpet their technology and have their claims reviewed by Golf Digest’s technical panel.
Page one provides a brief explanation of the purpose of the form, which is described as the Form 1040EZ equivalent for any Hot List technical presentations. The form doesn’t dig too deeply into the specifics of exactly how the provided information will be evaluated, but it does provide a basic overview of the process, and offers 5 specific points that manufacturers should address in their explanation of technologies.
Page two provides manufacturers with an opportunity to describe, in detail, specific aspects of their technology, and to provide Golf Digest with any supporting documentation to validate said technology. Manufacturers are free to add as many copies of this page as they feel is necessary to fully outline their innovations.
This page is reviewed by Golf Digest panel of Technical Scientists (we understand these are not Golf Digest employees) in an attempt to determine the validity of the specified claims.
While this isn’t an all-encompassing view of exactly how products are selected for the annual Hot List, it does provide some insight into a key piece of the process.

Again high end products missing: Miura, PXG etc. I have been blue eyed, these tests are bought by big money. Mizuno balls, why aren’t them on the list, they are good by the way
