Whether it’s off the tee on a tight par-4 or chasing a long par-5 in two, distance with a fairway wood matters. In the 2025 Most Wanted Fairway Wood Test, we saw some clear separation in which models produced the longest carry and total numbers.
The PING G440 MAX is the best fairway wood of 2025 although it was about seven yards shorter than the longest fairway wood we tested.
Below is a look at every fairway wood’s average carry, average total distance and MGS Total Score.
| Rank | Fairway Wood Model | Avg Carry (yds) | Avg Total (yds) | MGS Overall Score |

| 21 | Cleveland Halo XL Lite | 197.63 | 209.19 | 8.2 |
The TaylorMade Qi35 takes the distance title with an average total of 227.08 yards, nearly two yards longer than the runner-up Callaway Elyte and almost seven yards longer than the PING G440 MAX.
But the G440 MAX still earned the highest MGS Score of 8.9 thanks to better forgiveness, accuracy and consistency.
You can chase maximum distance with the Qi35 but the G440 MAX will keep more shots in play—even if it flies slightly shorter.
There’s a steep drop after the Qi35, Elyte and DS-Adapt LS but the group at the top is tight.
In 2025, most top-tier fairway woods can compete on raw ball speed and carry. Finding your ideal launch window and spin profile might matter more than chasing one or two extra yards.
The longest models consistently landed in a similar flight pattern.
The longest club isn’t always the best club.
The TaylorMade Qi35 owns the distance category but the PING G440 MAX delivers a more complete, playable package for a wider range of golfers.
If you want to squeeze out every yard, the top four or five options are excellent. If you want distance and the fewest big misses, the G440 MAX remains the benchmark.
World-class testing requires world-class equipment. This is the gear we trust to help us fulfill our Most Wanted testing.

Loft and swing speed used for testing please

What swing speed? The old TM v-steel and the r5 i have are in the 230-250yard range for me so this definitely doesn’t make me want to go out and buy a new club

I just put the Titleist GT 1 3 Tour in my bag. I was fitted into it at my club by Titleist guys. They spec’d it at 16* instead of the standard 14.5* and also with the most draw. I reset it at 15.25* and mid draw. I don’t think you guys tested this as it came out mid summer. But….it is a great club and anyone who can should demo it.

Please list how tested. Swing speed would be helpful.

The PING G440MAX link goes to the wrong place. It goes to the Wilson DYNAPWR Carbon Fairway Wood.

Seems like you should have mentioned the degrees of loft and swing speed you are testing at; I presume they are 3 woods.

How do these stack up to prior years clubs? 2024? 2023? 2022?
Longer, more forgiving, etc…..
Do you ever test current vs previous?

You do not seem to answer questions asked, but what swing speed was this tested at

I guess that the shaft kick point makes a difference along with the torque and the spin rate and the loft of the club head and the effective loft at impact and swing weight and overall weight and carry distance and roll out and shaft length.
