I’ll be the first to say that Twitter (I refuse to use its unfortunate new name) is home to a lot of garbage.
You’ll find senseless arguing, inane staged videos and endless self-promotion. On the golf side, there are weird tracker accounts and a ridiculous number of bots claiming strange opinions.
However, if you are willing to wade through some of that cesspool, there are some outstanding people to follow. These are accounts that are worth seeking out.
When it comes to golf, I value these personalities the most. They are either funny, informative or some combination of the two. They give golf lovers uncommon insights into the game we all love.
Without further ado, here are the 10 best accounts to follow on Golf Twitter. For each one, I’ll include a recent tweet that I appreciated.
And, for the record, I’m not including MyGolfSpy. We’re obviously No. 1, so that’s not fair.
10. Josh Carpenter
I’m starting with an under-the-radar pick here as Josh Carpenter of Sports Business Journal takes the 10th spot.
Carpenter is a reliable source for TV rating info and other interesting things happening around the game. He’s big on discussing the infrastructure of pro golf, which has been constantly changing the past few years.
If you’re fascinated by the inner workings of pro golf, give Josh a follow.
9. Lou Stagner
I feel like every time I see one of Lou Stagner‘s tweets, I am either passionately in agreement or vehemently opposed to what he is saying (Lou, if you are reading this, golfers still don’t deserve relief from fairway divots).
For that reason, Stagner’s account feels like a great place for debate in the golf community. He’ll bring analytics (and opinion) to the table, so it’s a good launching pad for discussion.
8. The Fried Egg
You can’t go wrong with beautiful photos of great golf courses.
The Fried Egg, which was featured in our podcast ranking last year, focuses on the best golf architecture in the world. Some of the drone shots they get are unbelievable.
There is also a lot of pro golf talk from guys who know the game on a deep level, so it’s a nice mix of everything. You know what you are getting in your feed is high quality.
7. Kyle Porter
Known as the author of the Normal Sport books and newsletter, Kyle Porter is a voice who has his pulse on everything happening in pro golf.
Like most golf media (and beyond), Porter doesn’t pretend to be objective. He has rooting interests—the U.S. Ryder Cup team, Rory McIlroy, etc.—and has no issue voicing that.
I appreciate having someone on Twitter who is so invested in pro golf, both as a reporter and fan.
6. ANTIFAldo
This weird burner account started popping up on my feed a few years back. I still don’t really know what is going on here, but I’m happy ANTIFAldo is around for comedic relief that goes beyond golf.
Back in the early 2010s, Twitter used to be like open mic night. Everyone was slinging jokes for no reason. This account is kind of like what Twitter used to be.
5. Justin Ray
Every golf fan loves a good stat. It’s what puts everything into context!
Justin Ray is the king of golf stats. He has been known to dig out some of the most insane Tiger stats that don’t seem physically possible—but, more recently, his focus has been on Scottie.
Ray is an easy follow. All you are getting is high-quality stats that are like catnip for golf fans.
4. Dylan Dethier
I feel like Dylan Dethier is one of the most thoughtful voices in golf media.
He doesn’t have the same depth of following compared to a few others on this list, but he always has something interesting to say.
I don’t know many people who dislike him. Dylan is a super sincere guy, a great writer and a phenomenal reporter who tends to tweet things at just the right time.
3. Claire Rogers
Claire Rogers and I go way back (as in we once played a round together at Seminole during Walker Cup media day. But, hey, it was Seminole).
Golf is helped out tremendously by someone like Claire. She is highly knowledgeable about the game while also bringing some comedy and fun observations. I’ve really enjoyed her work with TGL. We need more personalities like Claire.
And as a fellow Swiftie, I also greatly appreciate her God-given ability to include Taylor Swift references into golf memes and tweets.
2. No Laying Up
Twitter is still the best place to go for commentary during major rounds and key events as they happen.
Nobody captures the pulse of the avid golf fan like the NLU account, which splits the difference between serious breakdowns and funny reactions. It’s also noteworthy that they pay a great deal of attention to the women’s game.
If you are going to follow along to commentary during a key event in golf—or even something far less important, like TGL—there is no better resource than NLU.
1. Michael Kim
A journeyman PGA Tour player, Michael Kim uses Twitter exactly how it was meant to be used.
Kim answers every question the golf fan has about being on Tour. That includes everything from travel logistics to instruction to player dining to relationships with players and beyond. He hosts regular Q&As and gives constructive advice on what it takes to be a Tour player.
The former Cal Bear doesn’t take himself too seriously. He regularly talks about drinking a post-round beer or trying out fun food on the road. And he’s always willing to giveaway tickets.
Every time I see a tweet from Kim, I get excited.
