Last month, Arccos announced Gen3+ sensors. This time around, it’s a new (and, of course, improved) Arccos Link Gen2 golf-wearable.

For the unfamiliar, the Arccos Link is a small-form factor device that clips to your belt (pocket or waistband). Effectively, it sits between the sensors on your club and your phone which, because of Link, doesn’t need to be in your pocket. Before Link, having to keep your phone in a pocket was a deal-breaker for some. For golfers (including a healthy percentage of women) whose apparel doesn’t have pockets, the Arccos conversation never really started.

Arccos Link Gen2 – What’s Mostly the Same

With the Arccos Link Gen2, the company hasn’t reinvented the wheel. The enhancements, especially the visual ones, are so subtle you likely won’t notice.

With that said, Arccos describes the Link Gen2 as having sleeker look. There are some cosmetic differences: logo placement, accent details, etc., but other than a tighter fitting belt clip, you’d be hard-pressed to spot much of a difference.

Initially, I was disappointed that the Link Gen2 isn’t significantly smaller but that could be problematic. I like the idea of slimming the Arccos Link Gen2 but it’s also not lost on me that, technical limitations aside, the smaller Link gets, the easier it becomes to lose. At $149.99, bigger (or at least as big as it is) is probably better.

Apart from the shot tracking, the biggest feature of the Link is that it provides the ability to mark the exact flag location with a single click of a button. That’s a critical detail for those looking for the most accurate Strokes Gained (both putting and approach) data possible.

Nitpicking a bit, Arccos hasn’t added any functionality to the Link Gen2. I had hoped we’d see an add-a-putt feature for gimme situations. And while the app allows you to add penalty strokes, having Link-enabled reload off the tee functionality baked in would reduce some in-app work later and ultimately produce more accurate data.

Arccos Link Gen2 – Updates and Improvements

As you’d expect, the most important upgrades to the Arccos Link Gen2 are under the hood. The most significant improvement is what Arccos is calling advanced microphone enhancements. On its face, that’s not particularly sexy but it should prove to be a big deal.

If you’re not familiar with how Arccos works, whether it’s the phone or the Link, what we’re talking about is essentially a listening device. It’s what detects the impact\ while the sensors let the Arccos system know what club was used. An improved microphone should mean improved shot tracking.

Gore Protective Vents

Another improvement with the Link Gen2 is the addition of GORE protective vents. That’s basically a tradename for a bit of environmental proofing intended to keep the stuff you encounter on the golf course (dirt, moisture, that sort of thing) from working its way into the second-generation Link and corroding the electronics.

Remote Programming

Finally, the Arccos Link Gen2 has expanded remote-programming capabilities. That means that when Arccos improves its tracking models, like it did last month, those updates can be pushed to the new device. That wasn’t possible with the original device and, in hindsight, that’s probably its biggest performance liability.

As a final note, as it has with its Gen3+ sensors, Arccos is using more environmentally friendly packaging for the Link Gen2.

      Tried the new Link2 with GEN3+ Sensors. The iPhone app is so good, but the putting sensor seldom works correctly. The Driver and fairways sensors worked about 90% of the time. For me, it’s no contest, the Shotscope sensors V3 (or new H4) are consistently better than Arccos, 99% accuracy vs 50% with Arccos (includes putting).

      I wish Shotscope had the Arccos iPhone app capabilities – its the best iPhone golf app I’ve ever used.

      I have been using Arccos for years – and it’s never worked great for me. I first had the Arccos sensors (2nd Gen – but pre-subscription), and tried with the phone in the pocket. It was a non-starter for me. Then I bought an Apple watch pretty much only to use with the Arccos sensors. But it never worked right either. Then I bought the first gen link — thinking it will solve the issue. But alas — I still found that I had to spend 10-15 min after every round correcting scores shots and stats. The system never worked right.

      Don’t get be wrong — the Arccos team customer service was always great (giving me replacement sensors when they stopped working for free).. But after buying sensors, an Apple watch (which broke for unrelated reasons) and a Link accessory — I gave up. I don’t use the sensors any more. I would love to see if the second gen Link makes it work better — but I can’t trust it, and have given up on the devices.

      One thing I would love is to get some kind of audible confirmation that a shot was tracked or that the pin placement was registered. When you use your apple watch to track your shots, you can set it to vibrate when it successfully registers a shot. This is very nice. I wish that the phone or link could do the same thing. It would certainly make a big difference on how often I am having to look at my phone to see if it registered or not.

      On a more comical note, I think the reason why people’s handicaps improve so much while using Arccos is because it isn’t actually catching all of their shots. For testing purposes, I brought out 2 phones. One was using my tried and true gps app where I manually input all scores. The other was using my Arccos and Link. At the end of the round, there were at least 5 shots missed on the Arccos. Even going through the round, I had to compare scores hole by hole to find out where the Arccos missed my shots.

      So I just called them to see if I should send mine back as mine just came today and it’s Gen 1. I was told that both Gen 1 and Gen 2 are programmable, he said the only real difference was a better clip and microphone protection, otherwise they are the same device.

      Every site I’ve been to that has had discussions around Arccos has had the same viewpoints. Many have issues with the product and even more with the link. I’ve had over 400 rounds with Arccos and love the product. I’m not on the subscription membership so it’s a bit cheaper for me.

      Yes it does miss some shots during the round. For me, it adds shots as well but I’m always taking multiple wedges to pitch/chip shots around the green. I set down the club I’m not using and half the time Arccos registers a shot with that club. It’s very easy to edit the shots during the round or after if you don’t have the time during. I tend to start the round, put the phone in my golf bag and forget it. Check it after and clean up any errors. I also check shots it’s counting to come up with club distances and remove any that are anomalies.

      I did drill a hole in the Link to attach a lanyard out of safety when I saw others had theirs fall off their belt or pocket. Use it in all types of weather without any significant issues.

      I also carry a Sky Caddie as I’ve found that it is much more accurate than any iPhone app. Has more to do with the GPS capabilities of the phone versus a Sky Caddie. Record my score on that during the round.

      I evaluated Arccos along with Shot Scope V3 and chose Shot Scope for a number of reasons – It’s shot tracking and a very accurate GPS. Sensors send data to a watch – so no extra battery pack to be worn. And for my frugal self – the price is the end price rather than requiring an annual subscription. Works for me so far.

      I had the system, missed a lot of shots, and honestly it always felt like I was choking down on the club because of the sensors. The amount of grisp that have the sensors built in that feel like they are hanging off the edge has been a lot at the shop I work at. All the ping and cobra clubs with them on seem to just feel like the grip wasn’t put on all the way. When it works its great to have all of the information, but what a hassle it was so I sold mine.

      Still on my 45-day trial. I have been disappointed so far with Arccos, but I think that mostly has to do with the Gen 1 Caddie I purchased. I’ve recently noticed that when I use the phone in my pocket instead of the Caddie, I get MUCH more accurate results. When I use the caddie, shots are missed, phantom shots are added, and yardages (especially around the greens) can be off by 10 yards or more. Putt tracking is completely useless with the Caddie. Interested to see if they offer me a discount on Gen 2, since I just purchased Gen 1…

      It would be curious to see how the gen 2 link works because the gen 1 link with the latest sensors is pretty much garbage. I stopped using it half way through a round and switched over to my phone because it just kept missing too many shots and putts. The phone wasn’t perfect but it was better. I think the best shot tracking was actually my apple watch because it would vibrate when it picked up a shot so I knew if it worked or not. Only downside to that was that is KILLED the battery. I love the idea of Arccos but the implementation still needs serious work. Previous to this, I would use the GolfPad GPS app where I would manually add all shots. I got pretty good at it so it wasn’t as big of a deal. Biggest thing with the Arccos was that you weren’t sure if it got the shot or not. Sometimes the link would send delayed info and sometimes not at all. Very frustrating.

      I tried them but fairly soon found them to be pointless. Wind in or with. Shots change and not all are full shots. Lay-ups, shots to avoid bunkers, knock-down shots or half swings with wedges. None of these are easily tracked. Hard or soft bounces. Gradients. Far too many variables. Range finders and a semi decent memory are all you need. Most often, players don’t hit the shot, or number they aim for anyway.

      I bought v1 of the Link, but ran into two problems:

      (1) As others have pointed out, the belt clip is prone to breaking. However, their customer support has always been responsive and sent no-cost replacements.

      (2) I can’t use it when when I’m wearing a coat. I’m guessing the combination of the Link being covered by my coat and the noise my coat makes when I’m swinging results in too many missed shots. I’ve read similar comments from other users, so I don’t think my situation is unique.

      On the flip side, their Apple Watch app works like a charm – at least for me. It rarely misses a shot, even if the watch is covered by my coat. And, since I already had the Apple Watch, there i no additional cost. (I wish I knew that before buying the Link.)

      Consequently, I’m a fan of Arccos and believe in the long-term benefits of this type of technology. However, I also think it will take a few more years to make the user experience more seamless and trouble-free, but still believe the subscription cost is worth it.

      What’s wrong with keeping my phone in my left front pocket? I’ve been using ARCCOS for a couple years now, and it’s not a problem. I clean up a couple things after each round (might miss a shot or two), but I love it. Set it & forget about it. Good data (for those of us analytical, like me). The hardest thing is to remember to set the pin placement on my watch on every hole (I usually just pick my ball out of the hole and move on, then set pin placement in Edit mode after the round). I give ARCCOS a thumbs up ????????

      I’d expect at least USB-C or preferably wireless charging.

      I bought the caddie but not the link. after 9 rounds I returned it. I had been reasonably analytical about my gapping before Arccos so the club distances did not give me very much that I could use. I am not accurate enough with my irons to dial in to one edge of the green or the other. Putting strokes were a huge mystery. I asked them why so many were being missed the they said that If I had a heavy putter with a soft grip the impact might not get through to the sensor. That’s me. I use a Scotty Cameron Phantom blade with a soft Golf Pride grip. Not enough bang for my buck. Thank The Worldwide Golf Shops for their 90 day return policy.

      Arccos in general is pretty great. Has really helped me improve my game over the past couple years, going from a 10 handicap to a 3. The Link is a huge added bonus cause I can just play golf with my phone in the golf cart and not think about the shot tracking during the round. Overall, highly recommend.

      This is now 2 updates from Arccos, senors and link, where they claim they’ve made improvements where visually there’s very little different. This is going to be very confusing for customer and I really think they’ve made a big mistake not putting more effort into visual improvements. I also think that existing customers, who pay a healthy yearly subscription to Arccos should be receiving these updated products free

      Arccos is amazing when it works!! I’ve used the sensors for about a yr now. And I bought the blacked out link the day it came out. Less than 1/2 my sensors still work and even the ones that do work are hit and miss. My link belt clip also recently broke.

      I guess I can use all of these as reasons to upgrade to the latest and greatest which I probably will because I love all the data I get. But that doesn’t change the fact that I feel the sensors should’ve last longer and the clip should’ve held up a bit more. But I am very excited for the new new!!

      I have ordered this new generation of Arrcos as i am curious to its ability to actually deliver what they claim. I have read a varying amount of reviews and most negative comments center around the constant need to modify the strokes as the phone or link did not pick up the stroke. Hopefully this is rectified by the new link. The information it can provide sounds exceedingly helpful but it (apparently) has been a painful process to make it accurate.

      I am disappointed they did not alter the clip to be more durable or at least make it replaceable. I snagged my gen 1 on a cart and the clip broke off. I’ve tried using it in my pocket but I find my phone is significantly more reliable in my pocket so the tracker is worthless currently. It stinks that something at this price point is unrepairable considering how inexpensive the clip should be in relation to the total cost of the product.

      As an original user of the link and Arccos I know they take care of customers for the most part! Email the “starter” they have gladly replaced 2 clips for me at no cost. I agree though, the clip is the weakest part of the whole thing. Other than that my GEN1 works great and no need for me to update it right now
