Callaway Chrome Tour June Major: Pittsburgh Gets The Ball Treatment

Callaway is cranking out limited-edition golf balls at lightning speed. They’re dropping quite literally one a week at this point. This week, it’s the third release in the 2025 Chrome Tour Major Series. The June Major balls continue Chrome Tour’s slow roll through America’s greatest golf cities – or at least the ones hosting major championships.

This time they’ve set their sights on Pittsburgh. You know, that blue-collar town where they put fries on everything and somehow managed to cram 446 bridges into one city because nobody wants to take the long way around.

With the U.S. Open heading to Oakmont Country Club, Callaway’s latest Chrome Tour June Major edition pays tribute to the Steel City in all its black-and-yellow glory.

The Magnificent Four (Again)

True to form, this limited-edition features four distinct designs, each capturing a different slice of Pittsburgh’s unique personality:

Yinz – Because nothing says “I’m from Pittsburgh” quite like dropping a “yinz” into casual conversation. For the uninitiated, “yinz” is Pittsburgh for “you all,” “y’all” or “hey, you idiots over there.” It’s like “you guys” but with more attitude and a side of pierogies.

PGH – The city’s unofficial abbreviation. Simple, clean and to the point—much like ordering a sandwich at Primanti Brothers. No nonsense

Bridge Design #1 – Celebrating Pittsburgh’s absurd commitment to bridge construction. With 446 bridges in one city, they’ve basically turned civil engineering into an art form. Or maybe they just really hate ferries.

Bridge Design #2 – Because when you have 446 bridges, one golf ball design simply isn’t enough. That’s roughly one bridge for every time you’ve said, “I should have taken an extra club” this season.

The 412 connection

Sharp-eyed observers will notice the city’s 412 area code worked into the design because nothing says “local pride” quite like telecommunications infrastructure. It’s the kind of detail that makes Pittsburgh natives nod approvingly while everyone else wonders why area codes matter in the age of unlimited calling plans.

The black-and-yellow color scheme, meanwhile, ensures these balls will either blend perfectly with your Terrible Towel or disappear entirely in autumn rough.

Performance benefits? Still not the point

As with every Chrome Tour Major release, these are built on Callaway’s “New Gold Standard” platform, which means they’ll perform exactly like regular Chrome Tours but with significantly more local flavor. The bridges won’t help you navigate water hazards, the “Yinz” won’t improve your putting stroke and the 412 area code definitely won’t make your phone calls to the pro shop any clearer.

But they might make you smile, and in a sport where we voluntarily subject ourselves to four-hour torture sessions while chasing a dimpled white ball around manicured landscapes, sometimes that’s enough.

Missed opportunities

Of course, no Pittsburgh tribute would be complete without acknowledging what could have been. Like the failure to include Larry Johnson in the Charlotte releases, Callaway missed golden opportunities here. Where’s the Paul Skenes’ mustache design? The Mario Lemieux mullet tribute? A Primanti Brothers sandwich?

Come on, Callaway. If you’re going to go full Pittsburgh, lean into the absurdity. Give us a golf ball that looks like it’s been dipped in Heinz ketchup. Make one that resembles a Terrible Towel. Design something that captures the essence of putting french fries on a salad and calling it healthy.

The bottom line

These balls won’t help you conquer Oakmont’s lightning-fast greens or navigate its church pew bunkers, but they’ll certainly add some Steel City swagger to your game. And, really, isn’t that what limited-edition golf balls are all about?
