March Bagness 2025: A Cinderella Run, A Lefty Final And A Dominant Bag
For the first time, the MyGolfSpy Forum came up with its own kind of madness this March—not on the hardwood but in the bag room. The inaugural event hosted by the Forum staff had members submit their normal golf bag setups for a head-to-head community vote in the tournament known as March Bagness. Equal parts competition, gear showcase and bragging rights, the 2025 edition brought drama, debate and a deserving champion crowned in what can only be described as a dominant run from start to finish.
From Mods to Underdogs: A Bracket Built for Chaos
The field was stacked early with veteran members, new entrants and Forum moderators submitting their carefully curated setups. While some matchups were blowouts from the opening round, others came down to just a few votes. Cinderella stories emerged as newcomers knocked out long-time favorites and top-seeded mods fell earlier than expected.
One of the most dramatic moments came in Round 3 when Yorkie07 took down Golfspy_BNG, completing a trend of moderator eliminations that would continue throughout the event. With every round, Yorkie’s bag gained momentum—not just with wins but with commanding margins.
“The community got behind some of the newer setups this year,” said event organizer Josh Parker, known on the Forum as “The Bag Master.” “And Yorkie’s bag just kept answering every challenge. People took notice.”
The Final Four Goes Lefty
As the tournament narrowed, a clear theme emerged. The lefties were taking over! The Final Four lefties won versus the right-handed entries, culminating in a championship matchup between Josh Parker and Yorkie07.
Parker had made his way through the bracket with a strong bag and plenty of support. When the dust settled, Yorkie07 claimed the title 73-71.
This was no fluke. Yorkie didn’t just win but he beat four moderators on his way to the crown. Along the way, his bag sparked plenty of conversation.
Inside the Winning Bag: Built by the Forum, for the Forum
“I started really getting back into golf a few years ago,” Yorkie07 shared after his victory. “And from the beginning, I knew I wanted to build a bag I’d be excited about. That’s what led me to the Forum.”
In a sense, the winning bag wasn’t just built by one golfer. It was built by the MyGolfSpy community itself. Yorkie points to multiple pieces of gear that were added after reading through Member Testing threads and Forum reviews.
“The Newton shafts, the L.A.B. putter with the TPT shaft, the Ghost Oreo bag—those all came from reading other members’ experiences. I’ve been talked into some clubs and talked out of others. That’s what makes this place different.”
Let’s break down what made Yorkie’s bag a winner.
L.A.B. DF3 Putter with TPT Shaft
Looking to replace a TaylorMade Spider that never quite fit his game, Yorkie went into a retail store to test options. The L.A.B. DF3 caught his eye. What followed was a deep dive into the Forum thread that spans more than 50 pages. The feedback convinced him. A few weeks later, a black DF3 with a TPT shaft was in the bag.
“It’s only been in play since November,” Yorkie said. “But I already love it. I can’t wait to put it through a full season.”
Newton Shafts in the Fairways
The Newton shaft story started with a single 3-wood swap. Yorkie had been gaming a Tensei Blue but felt there was more potential to unlock. He came across the Newton testing thread and pulled the trigger on one shaft.
“After one range session, I knew I was in. The 3-wood and 5-wood both have this effortless power with the Newton shafts. They’re not going anywhere anytime soon.”
Mizuno Pro 245 Irons
While Forum-tested gear played a big role in shaping the bag, some clubs came down to fitting results. The Mizuno Pro 245s checked every box: clean looks, feel and, most importantly, performance.
“The Mizuno 245 Pros were a crowd favorite. I’ve always preferred the blade-look irons but also knew my talent level and was OK with playing the ‘right’ club for me. I went in for an iron fitting last year and tried all of the top models. Nothing really jumped out until the fitter brought out these. Not only were they the best-looking, the performance was above and beyond other models I tried. I didn’t need to convince myself these were the best. The data supported it and I was more than happy to add them to the bag.”
Ghost Golf G14 “Oreo” Bag
For years, Yorkie had been on the hunt for a cart bag upgrade. When the Ghost Golf testing thread launched, the timing was right.
“The G14 Oreo just stood out. It had the look, the storage, the quality. It was the upgrade I didn’t know I needed.”
Looking Ahead: A Champion Who’s Not Settling
Despite taking home the title, don’t expect Yorkie07 to run it back with the same setup next year.
“You’d think this means I’m set for a while but I’ve already been reading more testing threads. Who knows what I’ll bring to the bracket next year?”
There’s a quiet irony to his win. The March Bagness Champion wasn’t someone chasing the most expensive gear or latest releases. He was a Forum member who read, learned and built a setup around what worked. The result? A bag that resonated with the community and won because of it.
Final Thoughts from the Bag Master
The commissioner wrapped up the event with a few words of reflection.
“We saw mods fall early. Then we saw lefties dominate. Finally we saw a bag built from Forum threads take home the title. That’s what makes March Bagness special. Every vote matters. Every setup tells a story. And this year, Yorkie07’s story came out on top.”
Until next year, keep tuning your setup, sharing your feedback and building your bag, not just to win a bracket, but to play better golf.

This was a fun competition. I’m already plotting better pictures and style next year!
Although I didn’t prevail, I loved that the winning bag was actually a “forum” bag.
