The New “Digital Golf Ball Catalog™” Is Available! (Go Get Some Extra Distance)

You might remember a few weeks ago we wrote an article titled, “Golf Balls – Which Is The Best One For You?”

Well that same company…GolfBallSelector.com has just announced their completion of their Spring 2009 update to the GolfBallSelector.com ball database and Digital Ball Catalog™ and they are giving the MyGolfSpy readers a sneak-peak before anyone else for getting your own golf ball fitting.

We Were Shocked At The Results!

So go have a look and see if it gives you as much distance as it did for us off the tee. We were shocked at the results it gave us…but when we tested them on the launch monitors we were all an average 5.8 yards longer and straighter then any the previous balls any of us at MyGolfSpy were playing before we used this service.

With this third update, there are now 60 current golf balls in The Golf Ball Selector System ™ and Ball Buyers Guide™, spanning most 2008 and 2009 model balls in the marketplace as well as some 2007 models still currently found at selected retailers.

New balls tested and included in this update include:

  • Bridgestone Tour B330-RX (08)
  • Bridgestone e7+ (08)
  • Callaway Tour i (08)
  • Nike One Tour (09)
  • Nike One Tour D (09)
  • Nike One Vapor (09)
  • Srixon Z-Star (09)
  • Srixon Z-Star X (09)
  • Bridgestone Tour B330 (08)
  • Bridgestone Tour B330-S (08)
  • Titleist Pro V1 (09)
  • Titleist Pro V1x (09)

All These New Results Are Available at GolfBallSelector.com

These new test results have been incorporated into the site to give golfers of all skill levels the edge they need to improve their game by playing the ball best suited to their game.

* As with any ball, player preferences and individual launch/spin conditions are paramount in choosing a ball.

What We Saw From Our Testing

The following are some notable observations on a few of the latest golf balls to be added to GolfBallSelector.com:

  • The Bridgestone Tour B330-RX is approximately 10% lower in compression points than the Titleist Pro V1, when measured with the ATTI compression meter.
  • Robotic putter testing indicates that the Bridgestone Tour B330-RX, Tour B330-S, Nike One Tour and Callaway Tour i have similar “hotness” off the putter to the Titleist Pro V1.
  • The Bridgestone Tour B330-RX exhibits similar cover hardness to the Titleist Pro V1.
  • The cover hardness of the Srixon Z-Star and Z-Star X are identical
  • The Srixon Z-Star is approximately 15% lower in ATTI compression points than the Z-Star X.
  • The Bridgestone e7+ and the Srixon Z-Star X have similar compressions but one with a surlyn cover (e7+) and the other urethane (Z-Star X).
  • The Bridgestone Tour B330-RX seems aligns better from a compression and cover hardness perspective with the Z-Star than the Z-Star X.

My name is Adam Beach. This place, this site, it’s more than just a business to me, it truly is an expression of who I am and what I believe in, down to my core. I feel the work I do is a reflection of who I am and the idea behind the work I do is more important than the work itself. You see, I don’t actually see myself in the golf business at all, I am in the business of caring. I am a guy who wakes up with one goal: do the right thing.

I stay abreast of the golf balls and their “marketing”, but also the reviews. I tend to buy based on value, so I know I do not buy the ideal ball, but I do know I am buying a ball that helps me the most for the best price. I play the HX HOT PLUS balls and bought 3 dozen recently for $16 each and I also like the new E7+ ball, but they are a touch pricier.

Given my background above, do you really believe I will get value from going through the questions. I have a hard time justifying. It seems like the results might get adjusted by an answer changing from low to medium or medium to high. I would have more credence if they asked for my exact spin, launch angle characteristics off the driver, 5 iron, wedge, etc.

I believe in golf fitting, I just do not believe in the Q&A fitting over the web. Keep up the awesome work MGS.

Hey Andy – thanks for your comment. And I understand your concern. Although I think if you knew the men behind this site and business you would trust them. He is not only one of the most respected men in golf his studies on golf balls are used by almost every major golf company on the planet.

His database is much more in depth then any fitting you will get from your local luanch monitor at a Golfsmith or Golf Galaxy store. I think they do have one advantage by being able to give you live feedback through the monitors although for what they charge to fit you for only 1 ball type is the same price as this service gives you for hundreds.

But I do see your side of it…although I think it is a vaulable service to any golfer trying to learn more about improving their game. And with the discount the gave our readers it is almost a no-brainer.

Yo…MGS – Popular Golf Company Seeks To Buy MyGolfSpy

What’s up with that? Also, when do the MGS Golf Balls, Golf Shirts, Golf Hats, Golf Towels, Golf Tees, etc come out? I’m starting a rumor of my own about all that.

Yo…Bogey – cant really discuss just yet…but I am sure we will soon.

In regards to the MyGolfSpy gear…we have thought about it just don’t know how many people would. Maybe we will do a poll to see. What would you like to see most Bogey?

I’m partial to shirts and logo balls (I have 87 logo balls from each course I’ve played). I’m part of a golf league too – http://www.amateurgolftour.net/. I’m not sure what opportunities there are for MGS through the league, but they are pretty much national and it’s a great league to be a part of. A little off topic, but they do shirts and hats…maybe there is opportunity there or in sponsorships…don’t know – not the marketing guru.

Anyway, Shirts and Balls for me. (Even a unique T-Shirt would be kewl)

I agree with Bogey. I’d totally sport an MGS shirt if it were priced right.

Would you guys rather have t-shirts or golf shirts? Give me what you want and we will start getting the ball rolling for you all.

I think a golf shirt would be cool. Something made out of a nice light material and has the MGS logo on the chest.

I know the guy that started that whole league…back when it was the Carolina Blonde Tour…great guy.

I would love to work with him. Let him know we would like to work together ;)

Would you rather have t-shirts or polos?

I’m a Polo kinda guy Monday Thru Saturday. But I also rock TShirts on the weekend too.

As for the Tour thing, is there something in particular you’d like me to tell him? I have his email address and phone number. Also – keep track of Joe Jaspers in the last qualifier for the US Open playing with Billy Andrade…He’s a guy that plays on tour with me…Great Guy!

By the looks of the site this is the same as if you go and get fitted for a club…At least the place I did, they gave me recommendations for golf balls based on my swing, the clubs I use, etc. Of course there are some higher priced balls with some lower priced balls. I use the middle price range (Callaway HX Hot) and get great results. I’ve gone to other brands at the beginning of the year when my swing needs tweaking and there is a huge difference.

This site looks like it is definitely worth it if you are lowering your handicap each year. I can tell you that the few times I’ve used a Titelist Pro V1 or Callaway Tour i, the feel and results are different so ball technology definitely needs to be considered when you are looking to improve your game/handicap.

Been a user of this site for a while. My new top 5 is 100% comprised of the new balls and the ball that had been in the high 80%’s for me, the Wilson 50/50, is now down in the 65% range and the 9th ranked. That’s the one I play due to the higher score before and the low price. I’m guessing I didn’t answer the questions exactly the same as before.

Interesting insight Ben. Do you really think you answered the questions that much differently?

I didn’t think so at first, but I went back through and only changed one answer. I changed spin from low to high and I was greeted with a list that looked more familiar and my Wilson 50 back at 85%. The top 3 balls were still from the new batch.

It’s hard to remember exactly which choices you make each time through the tool… it’d be nice if they’d let you save a couple of lists with the settings used.
