Golf Needs More Personality: Brooks Koepka’s Shoe is a Blueprint

For too long, golfers have been pressured to conform—to “get in line,” wear certain clothes, and act a specific way. This has drained the personality from the game, making it, frankly, hard to watch. But I’m here to tell you that there’s a simple fix, player edition footwear.

When I talk about “more of this,” I mean more personality in golf. This BK-labeled shoe, with colors chosen by Koepka and inspired by his son, is a powerful statement.

The NBA, WNBA, and NFL have mastered this. Why can’t golf do the same?

Imagine a Justin Thomas “Alabama” HyperFlex or a Tony Finau “Lakers” inspired shoe available to the public.

Golf’s biggest struggle is marketing its athletes. Creating Player Edition footwear—like this Koepka model I snagged at Golf Galaxy, or the ones we’ll see soon from Nelly Korda is a unique, effective way to close that gap. It’s how you take the gear we see on the PGA, LIV, and LPGA tours and put it directly into the hands of everyday golfers like you and me.

If more players did this, golf would be significantly less boring.

It’s hard to believe that those commenting on this idea have such low reading comprehension. The article wasn’t about Nike, it was about making player inspired gear that isn’t boring. No one cares if you like Nike or not or what ball you play or driver you hit.

When you need to add some colour to a shoe to make golf more interesting then you know just how dull golf is!
And when we get excited to see that shoe with some colour and rush out to buy it then you know how mindless and shallow we are…..

Too bad it’s designed by the least likable golfer in history. Hard pass.

My kids are totally into basketball “signature” shoes. I don’t get it. I’m not sure why I need to support a guy that makes more money in a game than I’ll make in a year. That being said, my youngest calls his Nike Victory Pro 4 shoes his “Scottie’s”.

Thats one company I can not stand.
Last time I wore Nike was when I bought some boxing trunks with the swoosh .
That was 30 years ago before Ctes.

If Koepka wasn’t such an ass, maybe, but I don’t buy stuff represented by LIV players.

It’s all about performance, fit, and comfort for me. I really don’t care if a professional athlete pegs their name to a shoe. If it doesn’t perform or isn’t comfortable, it’s a no go. Nike shoes have never really fit my foot well, and the quality over the years has been iffy. In another article post today by MGS, you highlight Payntr golf. Those are some of the very best golf shoes I have ever owned. Sorry Brooks, but if I buy another pair of golf shoes in the near future, it will be a pair of Payntr Match Day SC or Eighty Seven SC.

Same. Unfortunately, over the years, my feet have made my decisions for me. At the same time, it’s made me less brand obsessed. Hard to be obsessed with sneakers when most of them don’t fit me well.

Deciding to do something because NBA has “mastered” is exactly opposite of what someone should do. Nike is at the extreme bottom of my apparel choices.

Not available in Wide. Sorry. That’s like praising a club that’s not available in lefty.
