Have You Ever Been Fitted for a Golf Club?

Have you ever been fitted for a golf club or maybe a whole bag of clubs?

If you have, we want to know about your most recent experience. Where did you go? Was the technology up to snuff? What was it like working with the fitter and, ultimately, did you come away satisfied with your experience?

And, hey, if you’ve never been fitted for anything, we’d like to know more about that as well.

We want to hear from you

It’s been well-documented that golf’s demographics are shifting. Does that mean more golfers are being fitted or has the needle moved in the other direction?

We think this is an important survey and because it’s a little longer than most, if you choose to provide your email address (we won’t share it with anyone), you’ll be automatically entered to win a Titleist GT2 Driver.

The only fitter’s id ever recommend is Club Champion or Sleepy Hollow country club where a tour pro fit me for my 712 Titleist CB’s many years ago. Other than that, the other fittings I had at PGA superstores and Dicks were worth less than nothing if that’s even possible. IMP the industry is littered with “fitters” that know NOTHING and regurgitate all the industry terminology…..this is an industry that preys on people who are brainwashed to think you NEED a fitting…..its all BS……unless you are under a 10 HDCP, i see absolutely no benefit to fitting…..take lessons first and get a consistent swing

I’ve had a couple fittings…I’m not real fond of the experiences I’ve had. They’ve been essentially, “here, try this club/shaft”. I have a general idea of the specs I’m after, and have found products I like just by tinkering. I much prefer to “fit by tinkering”. Buy from an online retailer that has good return policies, take it to the course where I actually use it, and see how I like it and if it “fits” me.

Got fitted seven years ago by an independent retailer. He changed my specs so much, that sadly after buying the clubs I never trusted them. And I guess the lack of trust didn’t help my game as the clubs didn’t lower my scoring ability one iota. Played with them for five years before purchasing off-the-rack clubs yet again. Having to travel 50 to 70 miles to see a fitter doesn’t help either.

I had my fitting done through Golf Galaxy as well as GolfTec. I prefer GolfTec since there’s no sense of guilt walking away from a fitting without making a purchase since you paid for the fitting (in my case, it was free as part of my subscription). That said, as a golfer who just started August of last year, I feel that a fitting has little value for someone whose swing is still changing assuming I’m incorporating my lessons into my swing properly.

Generally speaking, I don’t like the idea of purchasing clubs for a swing that’s still a work in progress.

I had a great experience being fit by Drew from Titleist at a demo day at King’s Walk Golf Course in Grand Forks, ND. He was knowledgeable and offered both stock and upgraded options. I highly recommend him to anyone.

I got fit at Loggerhead in Wilmington, NC by Kyle and could not be happier with my experience. My last irons were fit for me in 2019 and I felt that I needed an upgrade. My swing has changed a lot and we found that out immediately. I had a couple of brands that I wanted to try but told Kyle that I didn’t care what he handed me. I wanted the numbers to drive the purchase. We tried the brands that I wanted and others. We tried a variety of shafts too and ultimately came up with a brand that I had not even considered of – Wilson (Dyna Power Forged). My new irons will be here next week. I am so happy with the fitting experience that I am planning to go back and have them check out the shafts that I have in my driver, 3 wood, and hybrid. Kyle was extremely helpful and there was ZERO pressure to do anything or buy anything. The numbers drove my purchase and I know the value of being professionally fit. If you have never been fit, I highly recommend it.

I went to a Wilson fitting at PGA Superstore to try their new DynaPower Forged Irons and new fitting tool that Wilson had ( they also offered a free dozen balls to come in and try ). I used the fitting tool and I was amazed at the increase in ball speed and accuracy . I then took that information to a fitting at Second Swing to verify what I experienced at PGA Superstore ; I ended up buying the new Wilson DynaPower Forged irons with the graphite shaft option. Waiting on delivery .

Have always gone to my PGA teacher, he has an incredible inventory of all major manufacturers and shafts. Extremely thorough, which is a big asset. Very Lucky here in Central Indiana…..

no bias on selection too. However, I have always swayed to Titleist (TSI3) currently….hazrd red shaft! Can’t wait to hit the NEW GT drivers!!!

I am sure that getting a fitting would be beneficial, however living in a smaller town on Vancouver Island makes it difficult. Currently, there are no fitters or even a primarily golf store. The nearest Golftown is 3 hours drive from my home. I have used several online fitting softwares. But, I don’t believe that they are not very accurate because the data is primarily based on my answers. This makes the results obviously subjective. Now at 70 years old, I have gone to senior shafts based solely on my age. May be as a special gift my wife and I will finally get a fitting through the winter.

Found your analysis most accurate as I recently went through a Titliest fitting for a new driver. Terrific breakdown of all the changes and benefits.

I did! Club Champion is the biggest, most expensive scam, in the Golf industry.

You can’t fit a bad swing. Anyone who says otherwise should not be trusted. Unfortunately, this is exactly what Club Champion does to make a big buck.

Could not agree more. Have been fitted at four different fitters, and I think Club Champion was hands down the worst of the four. Their business model is predicated on selling every available upgrade, and I was as knowledgeable as my fitter in most areas. Will never go back there.

I am so glad to see more people state this. There are 6-7 guys at my club that have been fitted by Club Champion, and each one was fitted into the most expensive combinations and when they came in they absolutely hated their clubs. Plus their guarantee of getting the clubs to fit you, I seen them fix a guys g425 irons and 3 of the 7 now have a rattle in the shaft. Just terrible club work. Also watched a great friend get fitted for irons who has 114mph driver clubhead speed. They told him they werent even trying dynamic gold’s because less than 1% of amateurs fit into DG and even tour pro’s are using them less these days. As soon as they made that statement, I had absolutely zero trust in their fitting, no way I would trust them. They are all about making the most money and not what truly fits the golfer.

Agree. They w/b more legit to me if they carried stock shafts so you could compare them to the high-priced upgrade shafts. And I don’t believe some of their fitters know any more than newbies at the big-box stores.
