How Much Does Rick Shiels Make On YouTube? We Ran The Numbers

I recently wrote about an estimate on how much I think Grant Horvat makes on YouTube based on some general calculations.

The same rules apply here.

These numbers are only my estimations based on publicly available data including view counts, average RPMs and more.

As such, use this info only as that: a rough (but educated) guess as to what Rich Shiels earns in YouTube ad revenue from his main Rick Shiels Golf channel (not his podcast or other channels).

Keep in mind that this estimation doesn’t include any private sponsorship deals including his deal with LIV Golf.

Understanding RPMs

The first thing to tackle is RPMs, revenue per mile. This number is crucial to estimating what Shiels makes per year on YouTube.

Simply put, an RPM is the amount of money a creator makes per 1,000 views, AFTER YouTube takes its cut.

YouTube Niche/CategoryEstimated Average RPM Range
Finance & InvestingHigh-End ($6 – $20+)
Make Money Online/BusinessHigh-End ($5 – $18+)
Digital Marketing/B2BHigh-End ($5 – $15+)
Technology/Gadget ReviewsMid-to-High ($4 – $10+)
Educational/TutorialsMid-to-High ($3 – $8)
Health & FitnessMid-Range ($2 – $7)
TravelMid-Range ($2 – $7)
Lifestyle/VlogsMid-to-Low ($1.50 – $4)
Cooking/FoodMid-to-Low ($1 – $3)
GamingLow-End ($1 – $3)
Music/Entertainment/ComedyLow-End ($0.50 – $2)

As I did with Grant Horvat, we’re going to assume an RPM of $3 for our calculations.

My estimation

From what I could find, Rick Shiels has averaged around 7.2 million views per month so far this year. That’s down nearly 30 percent from last year, which is worth noting.

Based on our RPM of $3, that averages out to about $22,000 per month in ad revenue which, stretched across the entire year, puts us squarely in the $250,000-$300,000 range, quite a bit less than Grant Horvat.

Still, this number is only an estimate and doesn’t include the fact that Shiels has at least two other channels that are garnering views.

I stopped watching when he brought Guy Charnock on the channel. I’m sure Guy is a perfectly nice man, but their energy and charisma was zero. It was just boring. Shiela also seems to have run out of ideas. Peter Finch is significantly more entertaining and continues to have solid stories to tell. Unfortunately, I appear to be in the minority based on his viewing numbers.

I find Finch to be an insufferable narcissist.
Everything he does is about his own very average game, yet he acts as if he’s a top pro. It’s all “look at me”
You see better down your club every weekend.

Youtube golfers have reached critical mass and it has become stale, boring, repetitive and worst of all, the vast majority of the “personalities” who do them are fairly unlikeable people.

Connor are also counting his BLOOD MONEY from LIV?? That’s probably why he is down 30%. I hope some people dropped him like I did when I heard he sold his soul to the devil!!!! On a better topic, will you be reviewing the Tour Edge Exotics golf ball? Been playing it and it’s a great ball for the value. 7 handicapper in AZ, gained 10-15 yards off tee and it spins around the green. Just saying.

Blood money? Behave, not as if the PGA and WGC aren’t partial to a few dodgy regimes
Where are your clubs and balls made? Your clothes, your phone, PC etc?
Did you never watch the Olympics in China or Russia? Maybe some other sports in Qatar, Dubai etc?
USA not exactly blameless for poor human rights either.

This confected outrage at LIV is hilarious and hypocritical. If you don’t like it, that’s fine, don’t watch, but don’t pretend it’s from some sort of faux, synthetic moral rectitude.

I feel sure every country at one time or another in history has had human rights violations. That’s always the argument I hear when someone states they don’t like LIV golf. But, human rights is actually not the issue here. The issue is that Saudi Arabia conspired to send terrorists to attack the USA and it’s innocent citizens on our home soil, the same SA country backing LIV golf. So yes, it is blood money anyway you cut it. May God have mercy on their souls for selling them to this ‘devil.’ SA is not a Christian country and doesn’t allow Christianity to be practiced there either.

Thank you for standing up for the families that lost loved ones on 911 to the Saudi backed terrorists.

Who cares whether it’s a Christian country or not? Christianity is not exactly a moral belief system either that can’t be held up to both ridicule and criticism in equal measure, and for what it’s worth, USA and its allies sell arms to and have diplomatic relations with all sorts of dodgy countries, Saudi Arabia included. USA also buys oil from Saudi Arabia (albeit it in increasingly smaller amounts) and has a long history of doing so. Therefore, every time you fill your car up you will have to wonder whether it came from Saudi Arabia or not and whether you are supporting the regime you claim to despise so much.
As the laughably immoral bible says, before you point out the speck in someone else’s eye, take the plank out of your own first.

These petty boycotting of LIV is nothing more than rank hypocrisy.
I don’t watch LIV because it’s a rubbish spectacle, not for any halo polishing hypocritical politics.

I did not drop Rick Sheila, because I like him and his content. Could not disagree more with the “holier-than-thou” attitude of the responder above because it is based on emotion and opinion. Take a good look and you’ll realize there is no “clean” money out here.
