I Hate Club Tangle. These Five Bags Fix It.

Not all golf bags are created equal, especially when it comes to club organization. Few things annoy me more than pulling a club out of my bag only to fight with three others when I try to put it back. Generally speaking, the easiest way to eliminate club tangle is with a 14-way divider, but those bags aren’t for everyone. They’re typically heavier, bulkier and far less appealing if you prefer to walk. So, rather than simply telling you to buy the biggest 14-way bag you can find, these are my favorite golf bags for avoiding club tangle across a range of styles and sizes.

1. Kolf Maison Paganica Stand Bag

I reviewed the Kolf Maison Paganica earlier this year and still absolutely love it. If your primary goal is eliminating club tangle, this bag does it better than almost anything I’ve used. Getting clubs in and out is effortless, and I’ve never had to fight the bag to get one back in place. The tradeoff is weight. This is a heavy stand bag, so I wouldn’t recommend it to walkers unless you’re using a push cart. For riding golfers, though, it’s an excellent option. Club tangle is nonexistent. 2. OGIO Fuse 4

As MyGolfSpy’s style guy, it still kind of blows my mind that this is my current gamer. Visually, the Fuse 4 is not really my usual style. That said, this may be the best golf bag I’ve ever used. Despite having only a four-way divider, club tangle is nonexistent. The amount of room OGIO managed to create in a four-pound stand bag is absolutely impressive, and it’s light enough to carry for 18 holes without issue. Even better, the balance is exceptional. Fully loaded, this bag stands perfectly upright without deploying the legs, which is incredibly rare for a stand bag. This bag does exactly what I want a golf bag to do: it’s light, balanced and makes getting clubs in and out effortless. It’s my current gamer and it’s not going anywhere. Since this is the previous-generation model, it’s also down to $200. At that price, it’s worth every penny.

3. Shoal Golf Co. Standard Bag

Now this is exactly my style. The Shoal Golf Co. Standard Bag is relatively new to the market and, in my brief time with it, I’m already falling in love with it. It looks fantastic, feels genuinely premium and, most importantly for this list, keeps club tangle to a minimum. Compared to the Kolf Maison Paganica and OGIO Fuse 4, there is a little more tangle here, but not much. If it were an issue, I wouldn’t be using the bag and it certainly wouldn’t have made this list. Like the OGIO, the Standard Bag uses a four-way divider, and I’m confident golfers with standard grips should have very little trouble. I use midsize grips, which already predisposes me to more tangle, and even then it’s barely noticeable.

4. STITCH SL2 Gen 2 & MIY SL2

Say what you will about STITCH bags, but one thing you can’t say is that they have a club-tangle problem. I’ve used both the SL2 Gen 2 and MIY SL2 extensively, and I’ve never had much of an issue with either. That’s not to say there’s zero tangle, but compared to most other bags I’ve used, it’s so minimal that it’s basically a non-issue.

Both the SL2 Gen 2 and MIY SL2 feature four-way dividers, and, like the OGIO, both can stand upright without the legs being deployed. To me, that’s impressive. More importantly, though, clubs slide in and out easily without the constant snagging and fighting I’ve experienced with plenty of other stand bags.

5. Ghost Golf Anyday 14-Way Bag

Last is the Ghost Anyday 14-Way Bag. Similar to the Kolf Maison bag, this one has 14 full-length, fully enclosed dividers, so club tangle is basically a non-factor. Every club has its own dedicated slot, and in my experience, they slide in and out without issue. Again, the tradeoff is weight. At 6.5 pounds without the straps, the Anyday is considerably heavier than some of the other bags on this list, and you definitely notice it when carrying. If your primary concern is eliminating club tangle, though, the extra weight may be a worthwhile compromise.
