You know the drill.
We’ve talked about it before. I’m a coupon guy. Someone who doesn’t like to spend a whole lot of money on golf gear. Because the less money I spend on golf, the more money I have to buy shoes (for my toddler, not for me. She’s growing like a weed!).
The thing I’ve learned over years shopping in the discount section and downloading every food app on the planet to earn free rewards is that there are some things in life worth splurging on.
Such is the case with the three things I’m about to mention.
1. Prescription Sunglasses

I recently found out my eyesight was worsening and thus I’m now apart of the four-eyes mafia. What I didn’t know as someone who hadn’t had an eye exam in over 15 years is how freakin’ expensive prescription glasses and sunglasses are.
But after a few rounds of having trouble seeing where my ball was landing on longer par-3s, I decided I needed to try some prescription specs.
I’ve been testing this pair of Smith prescription sunglasses with their very contrasty Chromapop Bronze lens and they’ve been a godsend. Obviously, the prescription helps correct the issues I’m already having but the Bronze lens in particular is great as it accentuates greens in a way that a typical lens doesn’t.
Do I necessarily need prescription sunglasses? No. My eyesight isn’t that bad. But do they enhance my playing experience? Definitely.
2. NIKE Air Zoom HyperSlide

This one is absolutely less practical than prescription sunglasses. But I love them just the same. After a long day at the course, your feet deserve some TLC. If you take care of your feet, they’ll take care of you. And no one is doing a better job at providing recovery to your most important extremities than NIKE and Hyperice.
The NIKE Air Zoom HyperSlide uses heat and vibration to speed up the recovery process so you can spend less time on the couch and more time working on your chipping.
3. Feetures Golf Socks

Tony Covey, our editor in chief, got me on this one.
Since I joined MyGolfSpy four years ago, I’ve heard him rant and rave about how good Feetures are. Now that I’ve joined the Feetures fandom, I’m not sure I can go back.
Something about a $19 golf sock feels so wrong. But, my gosh, do they feel so good. The cushion on the heel tab and compression is just something I haven’t experienced in any other sock.
Yeah, they’re good. And, so far, they’re holding up pretty well after numerous rounds of use (and a little basketball as well).

I’d just like to add a “HELL, YEAH!” to prescription sunglasses, but you definitely want the right lenses. They are mind-meltingly expensive, but so worth it. I got a pair of Maui Jim’s ground to my prescription, but the lenses are gray and polarized. They cut the glare, but don’t help with seeing the ball. Plus, apparently, I’m one of those people that shouldn’t play golf with polarized lenses. Depending on how I tilt my head, they mess with my depth perception, but only to the point of distance to the ball at address. It’s weird. Then, Oakley was having a sale on prescription sunglasses and, for half the cost, I got a pair ground to my prescription with their Prizm lenses. They are SOOOO good. Now I can see where the ball is going because it’s in focus and where it lands because of the enhanced contrast. The Maui Jim’s are now my everyday and driving glasses, and the Oakleys live in my golf bag. Also, when my prescription changes, I’m just going to get new lenses installed in the frames I have. That’s saves a lot of cash.
