RYDER CUP CONTEST! – Win Your Dream Set of KBS Shafts

WINNER ANNOUNCED! – Congrats to TK…You’re the winner of your dream set of KBS Shafts!

It’s Ryder Cup Time!

It’s Ryder Cup time!  And that means it’s contest time at MyGolfSpy.  Matches don’t begin until Friday but the other Ryder Cup events begin today (2012 Ryder Cup Event Schedule).  So to announce the official start of arguably the best golf event on the planet we want to give away some gear from a company that will be more than well represented in the players bags.  And that company is KBS Shafts.  6 of the players in the Ryder Cup will be playing KBS Shafts…so what better way to make you feel a part of the Cup?  Well I guess we could have asked Davis Love III to choose you as one of his captain’s picks but he didn’t respond to our emails.

So the next best thing we could think of was to have one of you win the gear that many of them will be playing.  Sound good?  Not only will the winner get a set of KBS shafts but you will also be able to choose from any of the shafts they make.  That’s right…you get to select your dream KBS set up!

Prize:

You get to select your dream KBS set-up.  You can select from any of the shafts KBS makes as your prize.

:: KBS TOUR Shafts: $200 Prize Value

:: KBS C-TAPER Shafts: $280 Prize Value

:: KBS TOUR 90 Shafts: $232 Prize Value

:: KBS CUSTOM Shafts: $360 Prize Value

How To Enter:

“Comment with your pick on which team you think will win, and then tell us why you love the Ryder Cup! Of the correct guesses, we will randomly select one person to receive any set of KBS shafts you want!

Runs from Tuesday 9/25 – Friday 9/28. Winner announced Monday 10/2.

Thanks and good luck!

Golf is an individual match game, yet Ryder’s Cup does two things: It is a team related effort in order to win and there is competition/rivalry between the two power houses: US v. Europe.

Team USA!!!! But I think it is going to be really close, as it always does it will come down to the singles matches. Ok, ok I do actually happen to think that the Euros will win this one, just because of all the players on that team have had an outstanding year, not good, not great, but outstanding. Being a born and bred American though, I must, and always will root for my countries athletes no matter what. I do however think that the Ryder Cup should change a little, because it is basically the US versus the world, not just Europe. We should be aloud to pull from the America’s not just the US, don’t you guys think. Anyway probably not the forum for this discussion.

Europe. With ease. Rors is going to straight up own Tiger for 3 days. Sneds, potentially the lone US bright spot, has already admitted to being exhausted from recent play. Luke Donald, essentially unbeatable in these things, and oh ya, a chicago-native. Who can forget Sergio scissor-kicking at Medinah in ’99. I could go on, but suffice to say, this is over Saturday night.

I think the European team is stronger than the Americans but I think our boys are beginning to really become interested in winning this event. I will take the Americans to surprise their more talented European counterparts.

The Ryder Cup is great because it gives us a chance to strut our stuff and take great pride in being an American. Should we win, we will have defeated the very best from 8 different countries… and should we lose, it will have taken the very best from an entire continent to defeat the Americans in the Ryder Cup.

The head to head team format and the memories made, make the Ryder cup so lovable. There’s nothing like Langer giving Irwin his 2 footer and then missing his, or Seeing Seve lead the charge. But how can we forget those god awful shirts the ’99 US team wore? Oh the memories…

I think that Europe will win! Jose Maria Olazabal is an extremely experienced Spanish touring professional and a legend in the game of golf. He has an extremely competitive nature and a fiery passion for the game like many spaniards before him. I feel the European team will bond as a team more as they are closer in terms of age apart from maybe Paul Lawrie who is in the form of his life. Nicolas Colsaerts with his huge length is an inspired wildcard choice by Jose Maria and I believe he will make a name for himself in the Ryder Cup this year as matchplay is a speciality format that he revels in. Francesco Molinari and Luke Donald with their laser accurate games and consistency, will prove too tough for the Americans to crack. A war of attrition will commence. An old pairing of Lee Westwood and Sergio Garcia may also help to bring back memories of Europe winning at the Belfry. In the end I feel Europe will prove to be too strong for the old stalwarts of America.

My head says the US will win, their players seem to be playing better at the right time, leading up to this fascinating contest. They need to play well as a ‘team’ though and, more importantly, will have a loud and patriotic crowd as an extra team member, a huge advantage

I feel we (USA) will win in a very close match. I am kiving in California but lived most of my life in Chicago. I had the opportunity to play Medinah 3 a few times in the 1970’s. The reason I say it will be close but we taking the cup is the 13th man factor of the fans of Chicago.

They are the best sport fans in the country and will be extremely vocal with some clever & humorous “shots”.

I hope I’m wrong, but…there’s a reason Europe has won 6 of the last 9 Ryder Cups (if I am not mistaken).

The US will win this year. The younger players seem to have a better attitude toward the competition than they have in the past.

The Ryder Cup is great because you get to see types of golf that you only see in the Ryder Cup and the President’s Cup. It is also great to see all of these individual players come together as a team. Guys that you would never see rout for each other are going nuts for their teammates hitting a putt. I think my favorite thing is to hear all the different types of strategy that goes into play in match play. It is also cool to hear all the strategy involved in the different formats. Plus, US versus Europe, or anyone else is always cool!

Rider cup is awesome, cause you get to cheer for your country, not just a individual players. You can see players coming together to represent their own country…and it happens every 2 years in alternating fashion.

The Ryder Cup adds that extra level of competition and teamwork that golf fans, and really all true sports fans, really appreciate. Watching the players sharing stategy and advise just shows you that golfers are some of the most professional and true sportsmen in all of sport. Most of them show that week in and week out during the year but there is something about the Ryder Cup that brings it all to the surface for everyone to see. I just hope the American fans are on their best behavior throughout the competition.

I am USA through and through but I have to go with my findings. The numbers don’t lie here. the eruopeons have 20 percentage points better in the win column ontheir side. albiet we the USA does have four newbies so this is somewhat a contributing factor but so is the inexperience. Europe in a close one.

This is the greatest sporting event ever. The passion these guys show for their country and what it has meant in the times of WAR (War at the Shore) there was no us and them it was two competetive teams duking it out for the glory of their country. In the end you shake hands for the respect of the game and your Competitor. Golf is the greatest show of gamesmenship (calling penalties on yourself ).

USA, USA, USA…LOL I really do think that they have a good chance this year and one of the reasons was the comment that Norman made about Tiger being intimidated by Rory. When are they going to learn that you don’t make those kinds of comments about him. Other than 2009-2011 when he was just in bad shape, how many times has someone made that kind of comment without it costing them? I can’t think of one single time.

I love the Ryder Cup for a couple of reasons (and I really do love it, was up all night 2 years ago watching it rain at Celtic Manor!). One reason is the passion with which the guys play. How can you not get excited when they are so emotional about every made or missed putt. It’s just fantastic. The second reason is that I love match play. I think the Fedex Cup should be decided with the last 32 guys playing match play (you could even do double elimination over the last two weeks instead of taking a week off). Match play is just so much more fun to watch because every hole counts and what better way to play match play than a team event where it doesn’t just matter for you, it matters for your entire team.

Team USA. The Ryder Cup brings the best of the best from both the US and the world to one location, everyone drops the gloves and go head to head to see who the best is and throughout the entire weekend there are ups and downs and that’s what keeps it entertaining. Just when you think one team is down someone makes an incredible shot and before you know it you’re back to nail biting and never ending action. By the time the weekend is done you’re already countind down the days till it all happens again.

It’s much more fun to watch a direct fight between two players/teams rather than just counting strokes and see who made the fewest at the end. U.S.A. will win due to home course advantage, and many of the U.S. players are really hot right now. Course will be set up more for target golf to favor the American team.

I love Ryder Cup because the intensity is amped up due to the nature of match play, where each hole counts more than adding up a 72 hole scorecard, and the possibility of sudden death is in every match. Plus, the tv coverage is tons better in this type of tourney.

The Ryder Cup is great because it briefly allows professional golfers to break out of the usual polite shell they are forced to encase themselves in and show some attitude. Enhanced by the us vs. them mentality I find that the players are much more entertaining when they are openly cheering someone else’s failures. Something that isn’t seen on tour very often.

U-S-A! I love the Cup for two reasons. #1, I Love the team concept. Having played football for 17 years, and for those who have also played, you know what I’m talking about when I speak of the camaraderie, bonds & friendships that are formed in the lockeroom & on the field. There is nothing on earth like it. I really like seeing that played out in the Cup.

#2, I love the patriotism that is displayed on both sides That’s really cool. I’ve played in a college bowl game and attended a Super Bowl, Stanley Cup Finals 7th game, World Series 7th game and nothing, and I mean none of ’em could touch the tension, electricity & emotion of being @ Kiawah. It was incredible.

Where else can a bunch of spoiled, self-centered rich boys come together and actually care, play and lay it on the line for someone other than themselves.

Despite my wishes I believe the European team will win. Year after year it seems they play more as a team than we do. On paper I believe the teams are pretty evenly matched but the emotional edge goes to Europe. Not to mention I believe they have the edge in Captains. Jose Maria is fiery and perfect for the Ryder Cup.

I love the Ryder Cup because for one time every other year the players are actually playing for something other than a paycheck or some sort of personal achievement. Professional golf has become so much about the money rather than the competition.

Have to go with the Euro’s here. While the US will do well in the singles as they always do, the team spirit that the Euro’s has will see them build a big enough lead going into the singles that they’ll squeak out a victory.

The ryder cup is neat for the blind tactics. What order do you send guys out in, which guys can feed off the others, who can shut the crowd up early, who deals with the late pressure better. It’s all tactics from the captains and then it’s down to the players to execute as expected. Fascinatings to see the best plans work or be undone by an errant shot or two.

First, It’s currently Tuesday the 25th and unfortunately according to the article I have already missed this competition… “Runs from Tuesday 9/25 – Friday 9/21. Winner announced Monday 10/2.”

Alas, I will provide a 100% fact-based prediction of why team USA will win the 2012 Ryder Cup.

Keeg’s spitting, Dufner’s waggles, Furyk’s abundance of 5-hour energy to give his teammates, Dustin’s ability to grow a soul patch under his bottom lip, Zach’s uncanny ability to match his sunglasses to his outfit, Kucher’s patented “hovering” ball address, Phil’s claw/pencil grip, Brandt’s cool $11+ million prize money, Webb’s tongue sticking out after every shot, Stricker’s Payne Stewart award, Watson’s pink G20, and Tiger’s ability to burn holes through mere mortals with his eyes during interviews…

And why is the Ryder cup the most incredible golf tournament/sporting event/rivalry in the history of history?

Because it gives the golfers like us, who are addicted to the pursuit of perfection in a game that is incredibly futile, doesn’t pay us back for any of the time, money, or effort we put into it, who like dressing, talking, and acting like we know what we’re doing out there, when we don’t really have the slightest clue… the chance to pour our heart and soul into the game we love and the country we love at the exact same time.

Europe….I feel like a traitor saying it, but I think it’s true.

I love the Ryder Cup because of the emotion that it brings and the way it effects the players, both positively and negatively. Further, seeing the crowds be that emotionally invested in the matches and influencing the outcome makes the Ryder Cup unique to any other event.

My shaft choice would be the Tour 90 shafts tapered tip regular. As for Ryder Cup I think the US will win on home soil – most of their top players are in real form unlike a few of the Europeans. Also the course will disadvantage the home team less. Hope I’m wrong!

Why would you not love the Ryder Cup? It converts a sport for individuals into the ultimate team sport. Emotionally without parallel, and utterly absorbing viewing as multi millionaires play purely for victory.

I love the Ryder Cup because it’s something different from the usual “rich guys getting richer” pro tournament every weekend. I think that there;s too much emphasis placed on the importance of “teamwork” and the captain’s role, but I enjoy it for the variety.

USA all the way — our guys are all playing pretty well.

I enjoy the Ryder Cup because of the format. I enjoy watching and playing match play, alternate shot (good way to lose a friend LOL) , and the team concept of USA vs Europe!!

I believe the USA will win this year, just a gut feeling but I think its our time!!!

My optimistic choice for the winner is the USA but I think it will be a close contest no matter who wins. As for some of the comments I have seen about home turf advantage, most of the European team play as much in the U.S. as they do anywhere so I don’t see a real advantage.
The patriotic team spirit from both teams is always encouraging and is one of my favorite reasons for watching but then to be honest I just love golf, I’d be watching whether it was the Ryder Cup or pretty much any other tournament being televised, PGA, LPGA or Web.com.

      GO TEAM USA!!!!

Great golf, great sportsmanship all followed by the most enthusiastic, knowledgeable fans there are. Memories I have of those 4 days will never, ever fade away!!

The reason I love the Ryder cup is becuase it is the most unique golf tournament in the world and it brings the most passion to the course whether it be the players or the fans and it brings a team mentality to an individual sport.

I really hope DL3 and Olazabal have made a deal behind the scenes to have Tiger and Rory match up. That would be a cracker!

Even if we don’t get to see them go head to head, it will still be a great event to watch.

This is a no brainer…USA will win!!! I love the Ryder Cup because I can watch just about anything if I can root for the US to win. Since I love watching golf to begin with, combining it with the US makes it a must watch. Also, I always root for Mickelson to win so it is nice being able to root for a bunch of players instead of just one guy.

The Ryder Cup is the one event of the year i must watch on tv. The competetiveness and the history between U.S.A. and the Europeans is what makes the Ryder Cup what it is. There is no golf event more exciting to watch. The way the teammates interact and play together is never shown in any other golf event.

      The U.S. has to win…right?

The best part of the Ryder Cup is 1) the camaraderie, 2) the “home field” advantage, and 3) the sometimes hideous clothing choices.

I think team Europe is going to take it this year. It’s going to be a tight battle but it’s my gut feeling.

The Ryder cup is great because each match is it’s own competition. Each shot of each individual golfer has more of an affect on the outcome of the match rather than in a typical tournament seeing someone in 12th place hit an approach shot that really will not have much affect on the outcome of the tournament. It’s constant excitement, or a constant pit in your stomach due to being nervous. It is like baseball or hockey playoffs condensed into 3 days with the addition of national pride.

Why I love the Ryder Cup: Well this year is especially great for me. I was born in England, but now live in Chicago. I am a former caddie at Medinah and I am going on Saturday. To see the battle of these to great regions will be amazing.

The U.S. should win if, and this is a big if, they can really work as a team like the Euros seem to do.
Ryder Cup is simply the epitome of competition. For professional golf, it’s a rare moment to enjoy the sport in a team competition vs. mano y mano.
