Malbon Launches a Grateful Dead Collaboration for the Band’s 60th Anniversary

Malbon is kicking off a new six-part collaboration with the Grateful Dead in honor of the band’s 60th anniversary, and the first drop goes live on Friday, December 5th at 10 AM PST. Each installment will feature a different artist, creating a running series that mixes Malbon’s visual identity with reinterpretations of the Dead’s iconography.

Drop 1 highlights the work of Daniel Herwitt, an artist known for illustrations that sit somewhere between the ordinary and the surreal. His layered drawings, heavy linework and focus on everyday objects give the graphics in this release a really distinct tone. The pieces themselves include hoodies, tees, jackets and other apparel featuring co-branded logos and sweet artwork that nods to the band’s visual history without repeating it.

Malbon has partnered with major cultural names before, but this project is really cool in comparison. The six-part drop structure allows each one to stand on its own while contributing to a larger creative and narrative arc. If the first release is any indication, this will be one of Malbon’s coolest runs and it won’t be all that close. Drop 1 will be available later today.
