Meet TaylorMade’s Kalea Gold Set For Women

Two years ago, TaylorMade released the Kalea Premier, a game-improvement set for women designed to make golf more enjoyable. Since then, extensive research, testing and design enhancements (by women golfers of all levels) have led to the development of the new Kalea Gold which is being released today.

Created for women by women

TaylorMade used several resources when creating the Kalea Gold set.

In addition to their female employees who use TaylorMade clubs, they also had advisory boards of women golfers. They also took a very in-depth and proactive approach to online feedback about the Kalea Premier and incorporated that into the new Gold set.

It’s a line of women’s golf clubs created for women players by women players.

Who is Kalea Gold for?

The original Kalea Premier set was created with the idea of being a first set for women.

However, TaylorMade quickly realized that many beginner women golfers were upgrading to the Kalea Premier as their second or third set. Essentially, more and more better players were finding Kalea offered benefits to their game.

TaylorMade shared a good bit of technology with the Kalea Gold from their premium line of clubs. When technologies get shared in these complete set options, it’s typically a sign that the manufacturer is trying to appeal to better players: more speed, accuracy, forgiveness and likely better feel.

Throughout the Kalea Gold set, TaylorMade focused on maximizing forgiveness, incorporating an ultra-lightweight design and including a slight draw bias for high ball speed and optimized launch conditions.

Can beginners still play with Kalea Gold? Absolutely. However, mid-handicappers will find the technology and performance make these Kalea Gold worth considering.

What’s included in the Kalea Gold Set?

As we’ve seen with previous Kalea sets, you can purchase individual clubs but to get the best deal, you’ll want to look at the 10-piece set. The 10-piece set comes with the following:

  • Driver with adjustable loft sleeve
  • 5-wood
  • 6-rescue
  • 7-PW
  • Sand wedge
  • Spider S putter
  • Choice of cart or stand bag in neutral and stylish colorways

Additional fairway wood and rescue lofts are available for purchasing clubs individually or adding to this set.

What’s new in Kalea Gold?

We haven’t tried the Kalea Gold yet but we will as soon as possible. For now, here is some of the new technology TaylorMade is releasing in this set.

  • Carbonwood Construction: The driver features a carbon face.
  • Adjustable Loft Sleeve: Two-degree loft sleeve and trajectory tuning.
  • Carbon Crown and Speed Pocket: Featured in all fairway woods and rescues.
  • Thinner top line: A thinner top line and stronger lofts help make the Kalea irons more appealing to a broader range of players.
  • Spider S Technology: Upgraded putter with a multi-material design and high MOI for added stability.

Final thoughts

“We decided to name this line Kalea Gold because we wanted to set the gold standard with our second premier women’s line. We’re building on the momentum of Kalea Premier to create a premium product line through design, technology and performance. The most important part of the DNA of this product is that it’s designed by women for women,” says Michelle Penney, Principal Engineer, Product Development.

The TaylorMade Kalea set is available for pre-order. The 10-piece package, which includes a bag, is priced at $1,899.

Not to take away from the women that “designed” this set, but how is this not just a repaint of previous year’s product lines with softer shafts and more loft? Stealth 2 driver, stealth fairway woods, stealth irons w/ a different badge and the Spider S putter that didn’t sell well at retail.

Looks like pretty standard “Shrink it and pink it” design to me.
