Inside Look: STX Envision Putter!

STX Launches New Site & New Putter

STX has just launched their new site…so we thought we would give you an inside look at what it looks like when they are making there brand new 2009 model STX Envision putter.

What Is Different About STX Putters?

We have been showing you guys a lot of putters on MGS lately…so you might be wondering…why are STX putters any different from every other putter out there? Well this what STX says & feels is different and what sets them apart from the rest of the flatstick makers out there.

1. Control and Accuracy

  • How do you throw a baseball with accuracy? You put the ball in fingers and let the ball roll down your fingers and towards the target
  • The ball spends a significant amount of time in contact with your hand, that is what gives you control
  • If you try to throw a baseball by only holding the ball with just the tips of your fingers you will sacrifice control
  • The point is that STX feels that their soft face insert technology will keep the ball in contact with the clubface which they feel will result in added control
  • STX also offers the softest legal face in golf

2. Impart topspin

  • Everyone is trying to get more topspin on the ball
  • It is the topspin that gets the ball rolling sooner and limits the distance that the ball skids or hops
  • STX inserts are a proprietary material with a high coefficient of friction (COF)
  • The high COF combined with our soft face, grip the ball at impact to impart topspin and get the ball rolling

3. Compression Deflection

  • When any club strikes the golf ball the ball deforms and takes the shape of an egg, just for an instant
  • After the ball leaves the face it springs back to its original shape
  • That spring affect has a direct result on the speed of the golf ball
  • STX soft face inserts cradle the ball at impact and do not deform the golf ball for added control

I have one up north and looking to buy a second for down south. Prefer used but would consider new. Any ideas where I can find?

I came within a gnats ass of buying the original Envision design a few years back. As funky looking as it was the darn thing tracked true for me on the practice green. The face differences (red/green – iirc) were spot on. My interest in them came about as I played with a couple customers (hackers but great guys) who had them. They would sink that two/three putts that I knew was beyond their ability – putter definatley was mucho forgiving for them.
At the end of the day though the design was a bit too radical for me – still though…if I found a great deal :-)

I must admit that I have not heard the term gnats ass in quite sometime. I think many peope feel the same way you do about STX putters…they like them but they just can’t pull the trigger.

I’ve always had length control issues with them.

Soft faces are an issue when it comes to distance control I agree.

Man I didn’t even know these guys were still alive. One of my good friends still bags one of these. Its ugly, very very soft faced, yet even I can putt with it.
They have never been afraid to push the envelope in design and these new ones carry on that trend. Hopefully they can keep the price down as stated by CJ to let themselves get a foothold. If I remember rightly last time they jacked there prices and that was basically there downfall.

Exactly, they were a little heard from the past few years. I hope they set their prices low for success and high for failure.

Wow. I don’t even know what to think of this design. I’d be very curious to try it out though. Bonus points on creativity and innovation. I can’t really compare this design to anything else that’s been made by other companies, which I think is always a good sign for a product trying to break into an already saturated market like the golf club industry. If STX can get some love on tour by some of the players, and keep pushing new innovative designs, then why shouldn’t they be able to have some success?

CJ – the only thing that could actually hurt NC or STX is if they overprice their resurgence.

I really like the looks of this putter and I don’t necessarily need the sound more than I do the feel. Just like with my irons if the feel is there during the contact, it’s almost as if there is no sound anyway. Burnz does make a solid point about getting used to it though – if you haven’t putted with an extremely soft putter it is a different experience. I’ve never been one to spend a lot of money on a putter b/c I’m of the thought that it is the stroke and mindset more than the putter – however I could see myself putting out a good chunk of change for a putter with STX potential here.

I agree. I don’t think they will fail if they release their new resurgance now, I just hope these putters aren’t priced too high and they price themselves out of the market.

The soft feel does take a bit of getting used to, and one minus would be loosing the sound feeback.

It seems like a lot of companies are making a comeback this year. I haven’t heard much out of STX over the past year or so and now them along with Never Compromise are making a comeback. I find it hard to believe that these companies are trying to comeback strong in a year in which the economy is struggling.
Anyways, the STX Envision is a nice looking putter. At least when I look at this putter I don’t see another putter from another company. I have never used STX, but I have friends that have and they loved their putters. I just could never find one to suit my eyes.

Actually a good time to try and make a name for yourself in my opinion. Similar to the market…scared money…never wins money. Some of the biggest companies made a name for themselves in down times where others were scared to jump into the market.

I agree, a strong looking putter with a soft face. STX putters have a look of their own.
