TaylorMade Stealth 2 2023 USGA Preview

TaylorMade’s Carbonwood era appears to be on the verge of a sequel.

With the PGA TOUR ready for action again at the Sentry Tournament of Champions, the USGA’s first conforming driver list of 2023 indicates a number of the company’s Tour staff could be brandishing updated big sticks at Kapalua this week.

Three versions of a new TaylorMade driver under the names Stealth 2, Stealth 2 Plus and Stealth 2 HD appeared on the list Monday without product or performance information.

However, we can assume a few things about the new models from the USGA images and accompanying identification markings.

The most obvious bit of conjecture falls under construction materials.

All Stealth 2 drivers are described as having “60X Carbon, Twist Face” and each model features the word “Carbonwood” on the sole. That typified the inaugural Stealth drivers which TaylorMade brought to the marketplace early last year.

60 Layers, No More?

Noteworthy with these new Stealth 2 models is weight allocation. Since only the sole of the club is photographed for the USGA’s list, how the company positions weight in the head profile is often only partially displayed. However, the pronounced rear weight is obvious.

Two different-sized Stealth 2 Plus heads have 15-gram moveable weights with the words “Fade” on the toe side and “Draw” closer to the heel. Stealth 2 and Stealth 2 HD come without a provision for moveable weight. Both feature fixed weights in designated locations to promote ball flight including more draw-bias weighting closer to the perimeter of the HD version.

As has been a TaylorMade hallmark, and according to the USGA  descriptions, all new Stealth 2 models come with a Speed Pocket in the sole and an adjustable hosel to change loft and lie.

TaylorMade is expected to officially announce its line of Stealth 2 models later this month.

I hope this one is much better than the original Stealth. I bought it and lost a ton of distance. If you don’t hit it PERFECTLY, it was a dud. And I had no feel. Couldn’t tell when I bombed it or missed it. I sold it after a month and went back to Golf Galaxy and bought the SIM2 (my previous gamer)…..immediately back to normal. I’m a 7 hdcp and that stick was the worst TM I have ever owned. Looked sexy, though……so there’s that.

Love my Stealth! Really enjoyed my Sim and was actually not that stoked on red color way, but the club actually performed. I am between an 8 and 10 HDCP and I immediately noticed a straighter ball flight. I do love the adjustable weight and once I dialed that in, it performed better than the SIM IMO. My distance stayed the same, but I did notice a an improved ball flight and more FIR. The sound was a little different. Slightly muted, but when you hit it, you notice the sound and remember the Carbon Fiber Face. Fun clubs and looking forward to the Stealth 2!

The main Reason manufacturers release new equipment every year is for revenue.. Ping and Titleist will join this soon. I have SIM 2 Driver and Fairways and they will be staying for a while yet.

Quit releasing a new model every year ffs, there is no need for it, especially if the current generation is doing just fine.

I mean as long as people keep buying the latest stuff and there’s profit to be made, why wouldn’t they? Plus every competitor does the same thing.

Once I get the head dialed in and the right shaft I know this baby will send the ball over 320 yards.

Well, according to all the yardages added in improvements over the past decade, I should be able to hit this one over 450 yards now

Appreciate the update. I’m going to have so much fun trying all the new OEM drivers this year but in reality, odds are about 100 to 1 that I won’t purchase anything. The prices have just gotten too crazy. If you’re currently gaming a driver from 4-5 years ago, maybe it’s time to upgrade. But I feel if you purchased anything in the last 2-3 years, well, you have to decide if spending all that cash is worth (maybe?) a few extra yards.

But keep the articles about the new clubs coming!
